Mary Lee
DENVER -- Mary Rosalind Lee, 86, of Denver, formerly of Rapid City, S.D., died Aug. 8 in Rapid City. Services were Aug. 11 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City. The Rev. John Hather officiated. Burial was in Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lee was born Dec. 25, 1913, at Kyle, S.D. to Tales and Amelia Tapio. She attended Holy Rosary Mission in Pine Ridge, S.D.
She married
Pedro Pascual Torres in the 1930's. He died in 1980.
She married
Walter E. Lee in 1960. She lived in Rapid City the greater part of her life, then in Denver until the time of her death.
She was active in the Roman Catholic Church her entire life.
Survivors include her husband Walter; two sons, Richard N. Torres of Dannebrog and Andres P. Torres of Rapid City; three daughters, Joan Ortega of Denver, Deloris O. Sletten of Rapid City and Andrea J. Martinez of Denver; three sisters, Agnes Jazek and Theresa Siciliano, both of Rapid City, S.D. and Gladys Nordlee of Vallejo, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Nelson Tapio; two sisters, Lupe Gallegos and Margaret Pierce; an infant daughter, a son and a granddaughter.
Margie Dieckmann
AURORA -- Margie Dieckmann, 91, of Aurora died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Memorial Long-term Care in Aurora.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Aurora Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate.
Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Jan. 8, 1909, at Giltner to Fredrick William and Frieda Clara (Elitz) Dieckmann. She grew up in the Giltner and Aurora area and went to work for the Farmers Union Creamery upon graduating from high school.
Survivors include her sister, Florence Pickenpaugh of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Clarence and three infant brothers.
Floyd King
ST. PAUL -- Floyd L. King, 86, of St. Paul died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Robert Paulsen will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.
Mr. King was born on May 13, 1914, at Rushville to Harold and Lillian (Murry) King. He was educated in Rushville.
He married
Amanda Roenfeldt on May 4, 1932, in Rushville. The couple farmed near Rushville and later moved to the Norfolk area, where he did farm work. He was later an inspector for a Norfolk tire plant.
He married
Edna Peterson Helzer on Sept. 30, 1972, in St. Paul. The couple lived in St. Paul. Mr. King worked in an alfalfa mill in Minden and as a truck driver for Niedfelt Gravel in Grand Island. He was last employed as an alfalfa harvester for an alfalfa plant in Grand Island. He entered the Heritage Living Center in November 1999.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of St. Paul and Eagles Aerie 378 and the Platt-Duetsche, both of Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Wayne, Gene and Glenn, all of Norfolk, Richard of Pender, William of Lincoln, Robert of Pilger and Don of Greeley, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Dallas) Wegner of Kearney; two stepsons, Jerry and Jim Helzer, both of Grand Island; 22 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford King of South Dakota; three half sisters, Harriet (Mrs. John) Abbott of Scottsbluff, Dorothy (Mrs. Bill) Arthur of Rushville and Virginia Sydow of Chadron; and one half brother, John of Gothenburg.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Larry, Joey and Kenneth; one stepson, Dennis; and one half sister, Frances Johnson.
Lawrence Vanderheiden
AURORA -- Lawrence Vanderheiden, 82, of Aurora, former hospital administrator, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Memorial Long-term Care in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Vanderheiden was born on July 16, 1918, in Alexandria, S.D., to Louis L. and Josephine H. (Savage) Vanderheiden. He grew up in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from the eighth grade at St. Anthony's School and then attended high school and college in Conception, Mo.
He served in the armed forces in Europe during World War II and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
He married
Veronica "Vera" Starczec on Oct. 21, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Cedar Rapids, where he coached and was a maintenance worker for St. Anthony's School. When they moved to Grand Island, he was an assistant administrator at St. Francis Hospital. He was appointed administrator at Memorial Hospital in Aurora in 1969. Mrs. Vanderheiden died on Sept. 11, 1999.
Mr. Vanderheiden was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Nebraska Hospital Association, American Legion and Rotary.
Survivors include his three sons, James and Gerald, both of Aurora, and Robert of Lincoln; three daughters, Mary Novotne of Columbus, Kathleen Kummer of Englewood, Colo., and Vivian Holtzinger of Littleton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, James Vanderheiden of Haywood, Calif.; and one sister, Marita Currnyn of Dallas.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Leonard; and two sisters, Adelaide Trelstad and Dorothy Denn.
Elmer Bergman
OGALLALA -- Elmer E. Bergman, 68, of Ogallala, formerly of the Ord and North Loup areas, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at his home.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hillside cemetery in North Loup. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bergman was born on Sept. 7, 1932, in Huntington, N.Y., to Charles G. and Emma C. (Nygren) Bergman. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.
He married
Janet L. Newberry on Dec. 9, 1951, at Aurora. Mr. Bergman spent many years in the insurance business in North Loup and Ord and later owned and operated Bergman's Resort at Johnson Lake for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce of Cozad and Robert of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three grandchildren.
Henry Nolte
NEWTON, Kan. -- Henry A. Nolte, 82, of Newton, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Newton Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church in Newton. The Rev. James Anderson will officiate.
Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Masonic and Eastern Star Children's Home of Fremont or Shriners Children's Hospital.
Mr. Nolte was born on June 5, 1918, at Broadwater to V.C. and Anna (Lindquist) Nolte.
He married
Janelle Anderson on Aug. 27, 1942, at Mesa, Ariz. He was a captain and pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II, flying P-38s and P-47s in Europe and North Africa. He worked for Foreman Manufacturing Co. in Newton, retiring as manager.
He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Newton and served as an elder. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 119 at North Bend. He volunteered with the Newton Presbyterian Manor and the American Cancer Society, serving as Harvey County Crusade chairman for several years. He was a former member of the Harvey Country Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife; one son, David Nolte of Grand Island; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Joe) Hunter of Harrington Park, N.J.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
