Sophia Rohde
BURWELL -- Sophia M. Rohde, 98, of Burwell, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Burwell. The Rev. Mike Blatchley will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery at Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday a Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the church, the Burwell Firemen or the Burwell ambulance supply fund.
Martha Kostlan
PLACERVILLE, Calif. -- Martha Kostlan, 101, of Placerville, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Eldorado Convalescent Home in Placerville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Senior Center in Grand Island.
Anne Kehm
Anne Kehm, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Elba, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Revs. Larry Coulter and David Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at Elba, with graveside honors by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul with a 5:30 p.m. parish rosary.
Memorials are suggested to the church, the Elba EMTs, St. Paul Senior Center or the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Kehm was born July 28, 1910, at Elba to Francis and Valeria (Palacz) Grabowski. She attended school in Elba and graduated from Elba High School in 1929. She then attended and graduated from the Grand Island Business College. Upon completing her education she worked in Ord, Omaha, St. Paul and Grand Island.
She married
George Kehm on June 28, 1942, at Franklin. The couple lived in California and Virginia while Mr. Kehm served in the military. They then returned to Elba. Mr. Kehm died Dec. 9, 1985.
In October 1997, she moved she moved to Lebensraum Retirement Home in Grand Island. In February 1999 she moved to the Nebraska Veterans Home.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church and the Rosary Sodality. She volunteered at the Heritage Living Center and Howard County Community Hospital, both in St. Paul. She also served on the advisory board for the St. Paul Senior Center.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 119 of St. Paul, the Helping Hands Extension Club, Birthday Club and Christmas Club of Elba. She enjoyed baking, gardening and reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Valerie Kehm of Azusa, Calif. and Suzanne (Mrs. Robert) Golden of Livermore, Calif.; two sons, Thomas Kehm of Grand Island and James Kehm of St. Paul; and four granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a foster brother, Vince Wozniak.
William McDonald
William H. McDonald, 66, of 168 Loup River Road was found dead at his home on Sunday, March 5, 2000.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, Ducks Unlimited or Pheasants Forever.
Mr. McDonald was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Eliga L. and Elva (Galland) McDonald. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to Grand Island. He was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High.
He married
Dorothy J. Cadwalder on Feb. 7, 1953, in Grand Island. Mr. McDonald was a nationwide truck driver for Fayette Manufacturing. He then worked for Diamond Engineering Co.
The couple moved to Dannebrog in 1970. Mrs. McDonald died in 1978. Mr. McDonald moved near St. Libory in 1990 and retired in 1996.
He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mr. McDonald was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.
Survivors include five daughters, Sharon Boyd of Grand Island, Connie Smith of Silver Creek, Janell Lemburg of Guymon, Okla., Dianne (Mrs. Phillip) Fischer of Clarks and Kimberly (Mrs. Morrell) Redditt of Vicksburg, Miss.; one son, Dan of San Diego; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Roepker of St. Libory; and one brother, Jim McDonald of Aurora.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson.
Marvin Goodrich
GREELEY -- Marvin J. Goodrich, 79, of Greeley died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Jerry Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery at Greeley with military honors.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Tuesday at the church.
Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Goodrich was born on Dec. 9, 1920, in St. Edward to Douglas and Mary (Fox) Goodrich. He grew up in Watazquan, Alberta, Canada. In 1934, he moved to Genoa, where he lived with relatives and worked as a mechanic. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940 and served in the Philippines and Japan.
He married
Marie McCarthy on May 6, 1944, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. He farmed southwest of Spalding after being discharged from the service in 1946. They moved 13 miles north of Greeley in 1948.
Mr. Goodrich was a 50-year member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as a veterans service officer for 30 years for Greeley and Wheeler counties.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and had been an avid sportsman, gun enthusiast and musician.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary (Mrs. Jerry) Rease of Omaha; seven sons, John of Spalding, Mike, Tim and Dennis, all of Greeley, Terry of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Pat of Dannebrog and Bernie of Valentine; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Mark of Nampa, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald.
Frances Hanna-Jenkins
BROKEN BOW -- Frances Emily Hanna-Jenkins, 77, of Broken Bow died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 8 p.m., Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
A memorial has been established to the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center Foundation in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Hanna-Jenkins was born on Jan. 2, 1923, in a sod house on a farm near Gates to Frank and Anna (Wanitschke) Mannel. She attended Bell Country School and graduated from Gates High School in 1940.
She married
Walter Everett Hanna on Feb. 26, 1946, at Broken Bow. They farmed in the Milburn area. Mr. Hanna died on Dec. 11, 1969.
She later married
Wayne Jenkins and lived in Broken Bow.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow and the altar society, which she served as secretary for many years.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Linda (Mrs. Ronald) Engel of Indianapolis, Kathleen Hanna of Sutton and Janice (Mrs. James) Beran of Sargent; one son, Clifford Hanna of Milburn; two stepsons, James Jenkins of Oconto and Stuart Jenkins of Aurora, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Mannel of Broken Bow.
