Helen Bishop
FULLERTON -- Helen L. Bishop, 87, of Fullerton died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Wendell Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Jerry Watson
KEARNEY -- Jerry C. Watson, 65, of Kearney died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. Jerry Gilbreath will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the church or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Watson was born on July 24, 1935, in Grand Island to Charles and Thelma (Olson) Watson. He attended school in Grand Island until 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957.
He married
Shirley Stoeger on Nov. 1, 1957, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island until 1977, when they moved to Kearney. Between 1957 and 1962, he worked for Wright's Automotive, Forney Arc Welders and Nash Finch. He worked as a truck driver for Beeline Motor Freight from 1962 until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the American Legion and Teamsters Union Local 554. He was Nebraska Driver of the Month in May 1980 and was named to the President's Safe Drivers Club of the Year in September 1981. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and bird-watching.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick of Grand Island and Ron of Lexington; a daughter, Kay of Kearney; four grandchildren; his mother, of St. Paul; and a brother, Jim of Dannebrog.
Eunice Beal
GUIDE ROCK -- Eunice Hilda Beal, 77, of Guide Rock died Oct. 20, 2000, at Broadstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.
Services were on Wednesday at the Guide Rock United Methodist Church. The Revs. Harold Backus and Patsy Busey officiated. Burial was in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Beal was born on July 5, 1923, at Wetumka, Okla., to Thomas Jefferson and Lettie Mae (Parks) Cole. She grew up at Allen, Okla., where she attended school. She lived in a number of places in her younger years.
She married
Clarence A. Evans on Jan. 27, 1940, at Lyons, Kan. Mr. Evans' job took them to several different communities in Kansas.
She married
Thomas D. Beal on Dec. 23, 1966, at Alva, Okla. They lived in Hutchinson, Kan. They moved to Montrose, Kan., in 1989 and to Guide Rock in 1990.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Doris L. (Mrs. Bill) Warren of Guide Rock, Dona D. Patterson of Pretty Prairie, Kan., and Debra A. (Mrs. Terry) Klick of Attica, Kan.; four sons, Ernest Evans and Sherman Evans, both of Guide Rock, Darwin Evans of Grand Island and John M. Beal of Hutchinson, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters, Howard Lee Cross of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Oretha Cole of Oklahoma, Treeda Blanton of Hutchinson, Kan., Meredith Cole, Larry Cole, Gerald Cole, Nadine Johnson and Betty McKenna, all of Hutchinson, and Charlie Dean Harrell of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Mae Evans; a brother; and a sister.
Betty Ann Boilsen
LINCOLN -- Betty Ann Boilsen, 76, of Lincoln died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Lincoln.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Ministers Rex Bevins and Naomi Hull will officiate. Mrs. Boilsen was cremated. Inurnment will be at the Cotesfield Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Caring Committee Fund at the church for use in the kitchen, dining room and parlor.
Butherus, Maser and Love of Lincoln are in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Boilsen was born on Aug. 26, 1924, at Elba to Manley M. and Anna Barr. She was a graduate of Grand Island High School. She attended the School of Business and the University of Nebraska.
Mrs. Boilsen performed secretarial work, community service and was a homemaker. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Axel; two sons, Doug and James Boilsen; one daughter, Bev (Mrs. Ron) Jester; and five grandsons, all of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by two half brothers, Ray and Chris Vogt; and a half sister, Fay Erickson.
Ruby Mendenhall
Ruby M. Mendenhall, 91, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mendenhall was born on Dec. 28, 1908, at Corning, Iowa, to Frank and Martha (Sorrenson) Colwell. She grew up and was educated in Corning, graduating from the high school there. She moved to Grand Island, where she attended the Grand Island Business College.
She married
Harold H. Mendenhall on Dec. 24, 1931, at Omaha. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mrs. Mendenhall worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and Lumbard Leschinsky Studio.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Grand Island Woman's Club, Retired Union Pacific Railroad Women's Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Mrs. Paul) Stobbe of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Beverly Arnold; a brother; and a sister.
Mary Jo Scholtz
Mary Jo Scholtz, 73, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha after an illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home with the Rev. John Kunze officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the research division of the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Scholtz was born on Jan. 28, 1926, at Hastings to Charles and Maude (Ready) Frasier. She grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School.
She married
Raymond Scholtz on Aug. 23, 1946, at Hastings. She worked as a dental assistant while her husband was in college. Later they moved to Grand Island.
Mr. Scholtz died on Dec. 30, 1978. After his death, Mrs. Scholtz worked at Engleman Elementary School as a crossing guard and a lunch room attendant.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Hastings High School Alumni. She had been active in Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Michael of Omaha, Jeffrey of Grand Island and Douglas of Scottsbluff; two daughters, Susan Peplow of Springfield and Amy Jo (Mrs. Russell) Svoboda of Firth; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Eva Taylor of Yuma, Ariz.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, four sisters and two brothers.
