Odette Medrano, 39, of Grand Island, died Tuesday Sept. 26, 2000, at her home.
Services are pending at the All Faiths Funeral Home.
Beverly Friesen
HENDERSON -- Beverly A. Friesen, 65, of Henderson, died Sunday Sept. 24, 2000, at Henderson.
Services were Wednesday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. The Rev. Weldon Martens officiated. Burial was in the Bethesda Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Bethesda Church Music Fund or the Bethesda Radio Broadcast.
Metz Mortuary in Henderson was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Matt, Cal and Jim, all of Henderson; two daughters, Lori (Mrs. Luke) Jacobsen of Marquette and Gayle Siebert of Henderson 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Janzen of Henderson and Homer Janzen of Longmont, Colo.; and a sister, Elvera (Mrs. Edwin) Peters of Henderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Gertrude Hermsmeyer
SCOTIA -- Mary Gertrude Hermsmeyer, 93, of Scotia, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Scotia United Methodist Church in Scotia. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery at Scotia.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church on Saturday prior to services.
Memorials are suggested to the Scotia United Methodist Church, Scotia Volunteer Rescue Unit or Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hermsmeyer was born Sept. 12, 1907, at the family farm house northeast of Kearney to Joseph and Jennie (McConnell) Duncan. She attended the Fairview rural school near her home through eighth grade, then attended high school in Poole and then Kearney.
Normal training at Kearney High School prepared her as a teacher and she then taught in rural schools near her home the following six years.
With correspondence courses, summer classes and terms spent at Kearney State College between teaching positions, she earned her bachelor degree in 1937. She then taught elementary grades in Elm Creek and Alliance.
She married
Irvin Hermsmeyer of Scotia on Aug. 20, 1941, at Wilcox. The couple lived on the Hermsmeyer farm east of Scotia, where she became a fulltime homemaker. Some years later she taught music at the Greeley Public Schools as well as some remedial work in subjects as needed.
In 1984, the Hermsmeyers retired and moved into Scotia. She moved to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island in October 1997 and to Tiffany Square Care Center on March 29, 2000.
Music was always of special interest to Gertrude. She first began playing the pump organ at the church at age 9. She played violin in the orchestra at Kearney State College. After her marriage she played the piano or organ for church services at the former Salem United Methodist Church, east of Scotia for 48 years.
She was a member of the Scotia United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Savage of Grand Island and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 16, 2000, and by four brothers and four sisters.
Mary Koza
FULLERTON -- Mary Koza, 94, of Fullerton, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Osceola.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Fullerton. Father Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a St. Anns Rosary at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
James Mach
BURWELL -- James A. Mach, 85, of Burwell, died Sept. 26, 2000, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be at Cottonwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church at Burwell or the Ambulance Fund.
Wesley Moeller
BROKEN BOW -- Wesley Moeller, 84, of Broken bow, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Marilyn Spiegel
KEARNEY -- Marilyn Spiegel, 67, of Kearney, formerly of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 at her home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Congregational Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Doug DeNuel will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Rasmussen Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Spiegel was born December 26, 1932 at Primrose, to Melvin "Mike" and Marie (Harbottle) Arthur. She attended country school in Greeley and Boone Counties before moving to Albion in 1946, where she graduated high school in 1950. After graduation, she got a job at Sullivan's Cafe.
She married
John E. Spiegel on Feb. 20, 1952. The family moved to Ravenna in 1957 where Mr. Spiegel worked for the Ravenna News Office. Marilyn worked at the Good Samaritan Center and at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. In 1971, the Spiegels purchased the Ravenna News and the couple worked together until selling the business in 1993.
In September of 1997, she moved to Shelton, and then moved to Kearney in July of 2000.
Survivors include one son, Michael, of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Janet, (Mrs. Kirk) Psota of Lexington and Jill (Mrs. Delbert) Wieser of Shelton; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Charles Wall
CENTRAL CITY -- Charles Alvin Wall, 14, of Central City, died at his home Monday, Sept. 25, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Community Bible Church in Central City. The Rev. Gil Larsen will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Omaha.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Charles was born Nov. 23, 1985, in Omaha to Michael D. and Lucinda D. (Malson) Wall. The family lived in Omaha until moving to Central City in 1997. He was a freshman at Central City High School. He was involved in the Central City High School FFA and the AWANA Church Youth Group. He enjoyed collecting items related to pigs and Ghost Buster items. He loved reading and volunteered at the Central City Library.
Survivors include his mother, Lucinda Wall of Central City; his father, Michael Wall of Omaha; two brothers, Michael and David, both of Central City; and his grandparents, Natala and M. Alan Henriksen of Eagle.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Glynn Malson and great-grandmother, Grace Zabrel.
