Helen Beck
JASPER, Mo. -- Helen K. Beck, 93, of Jasper, Mo., formerly of Grand Island and Scotia, died Nov. 7, 1999, at her home.
Services were on Nov. 10 at Weng Funeral Chapel in Jasper. The Rev. Wes James officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery at Jasper.
Mrs. Beck was born on Sept. 1, 1906, at Scotia to George and Anna (Sumnick) Klein.
She lived most of her life in Jasper. She retired in 1976 from McCune Brooks Hospital, where she was a nurse's aide.
She married
William Clyde Beck on Feb. 20, 1924. He died on Aug. 26, 1968.
Mrs. Beck was a member of the Jasper Christian Church and the Senior Citizens Organization, which she served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Bud of Jasper and Vernon of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Shirley Stoy of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Miller of Scotia; and two brothers, Arthur Klein and Walter Klein.
Victoria Murcek
GREELEY, Colo. -- Victoria "Vicki" Murcek, 89, of Greeley, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Oct. 31, 1999, in the inpatient unit of Hospice at North Colorado Medical Center at Greeley.
Services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Greeley on Nov. 12. Inurnment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School, Campaign Office at Greeley, or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Murcek was born Jan. 21, 1910, at Genoa in Nance County to John and Pauline (Kush) Morys. She attended Polk County schools.
On Oct. 1, 1930, she married
John C. Murcek at St. Andrew Church near Osceola. They lived at Columbus until 1942, when they moved to Grand Island. In 1955 they moved to Denver and in 1972 to Evans, Colo., where they lived until Mr. Murcek's death on Feb. 22, 1987.
Mrs. Murcek had lived at Garden Square at Westlake in Greeley since June 1998.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Greeley. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts and plants. She liked participating in Juanita Ball's harmonica band and exercise class before her health failed.
Survivors include a son, Robert E. Murcek of Greeley, Colo.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Ann Cram, two sisters and two brothers.
Dorothy Rasmussen
Dorothy E. Rasmussen, 82, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Grand Island.
Services pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Raymond Wernke
Raymond Wernke, 73, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Wilma Baker
CENTRAL CITY -- Wilma Baker, 71, of Central City died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Revs. Tom Baker and Charles Pollard will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Baker was born on Oct. 1, 1929, in Ansbach near Nuremberg, Germany, to Johann Friedrich and Katharine Karoline (Kirschbaum) Stark. She grew up in Germany and was educated there. A large part of her growing-up years were influenced by World War II.
She married
Thomas Buster Baker on Oct. 9, 1959, in Germany. She became a U.S. citizen on Oct. 2, 1969. They moved to the United States that year and lived in Grand Island. She worked at the old Lutheran Hospital for many years and also at Parkside Nursing Home. In the early 1990s, she moved to Central City and lived at Bader Villa and then at the Central City Care Center.
She was raised in the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Tom Baker of Central City, Gunther Baker of Silver Creek and Bob Baker of Grand Island; one daughter, Lee Baker of St. Martin Island in the Caribbean; a stepson, Manfred Stark of Germany; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1996. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Dorothy Gorball
BURWELL -- Dorothy Vee Gorball, 86, of Burwell died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
There will be no visitation.
Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ivan Hoagland
HASTINGS -- Ivan D. Hoagland, 80, of Hastings died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kathleen Kasper will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hoagland was born on Dec. 2, 1919, in Adams County to Frank and Anna (Uden) Hoagland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Oct. 10, 1941, until Aug. 22, 1945, in the Pacific theater.
He married
Lavina Theesen on June 25, 1947. He was a lifelong Adams County farmer.
He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was an usher and served with the Stewards of Finance.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Larry Hoagland of Doniphan, Dennis Hoagland of Hastings, Neal Hoagland of Dunning and Russell Hoagland of Hastings; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Melvin Hoagland and Clyde Hoagland, both of Hastings; and a sister, Tacy Krull of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by a son, LaMoine Ivan Hoagland; one granddaughter; and two brothers.
