Jerry Leibhart
Jerry R. Leibhart, 54, of Grand Island, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Dr. Charles Spence will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or to the First Baptist Church in Broken Bow.
Mr. Leibhart was born Feb. 28, 1946, in Custer County to Percy R. and Mabel M. (Adams) Leibhart. He attended country school in the Upper Lodi community south of Callaway. He later moved to Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1965.
While living in Broken Bow, he had a newspaper route for several years. He moved to Hastings and worked at Spitz Foundry and Western Landroller for many years.
He later moved to Grand Island, where he was a volunteer at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital and the Salvation Army. He also had a paper route with the Grand Island Independent and helped with the grounds keeping at the Grand Island Generation Center.
Survivors include two sisters, Molly Mott of Grand Island and Donna (Mrs. Jack) Tubbs of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lyle Baumgartner
PETERSBURG -- Lyle J. "Nuff" Baumgartner, 27 of Petersburg was found dead near Oct. 30, 2000 near Columbus.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg with Father Frank Baumert officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will start at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. A wake service will follow at 6 p.m.
Mr. Baumgartner was reported missing on Oct. 19 and was found Oct. 30 in the Loup Public Power Canal near Columbus.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1972 to Peter J. and Helen Rueth Baumgartner in Albion. He attended Petersburg public schools and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1991.
He attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk and received a degree in autobody repair in 1997. He returned to Petersburg where he farmed with his parents and brothers.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Clint and Neil, both of Petersburg; his grandmother, Mary Baumgartner of Petersburg; and his special friend Becky Henn of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Baumgartner and John and Martha Rueth.
Cory Myers
BOELUS -- Cory Myers, 20, of Boelus, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident near Boelus.
Services are pending with Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Leonard Ogden
WOOD RIVER -- Leonard A. Ogden, 93, of Wood River, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River. The Rev. Sue Uhrich will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Ogden was born on Dec. 3, 1906, at Harlan County to David S. and Pearl E. (Garrison) Ogden. He was raised in the Harlan County area.
He married
Florence Elizabeth Potter on June 18, 1929, in Alma.
As a young man he lived in Omaha where he delivered milk, drove a truck and worked as a mechanic. He moved to a farm two miles west of Wood River in March 1945 and resided there the remainder of his life. He worked as a farmer until retirement.
He was active in the Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He also was involved in the Wood River Lions Club, Mid-States Irrigation Reclamation project, Hall County Fair Board, was a leader of the Wood River Beef Feeders 4-H Club and was a Commodore in the Orange Harbor Yacht Club.
Survivors include two sons, Richard of Wood River and Charles of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters.
Albert Sutton
St. EDWARD -- Albert Sutton, 93, of St. Edward died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000 at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with Rev. John Gradwohl officiating. Burial will be in the Dublin cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Dr. Alvin Evers
CHAPALA, Mexico -- Dr. Alvin A. Evers, 93, of Chapala, Mexico, formerly of Ravenna and Cairo, died Oct. 12, 2000, at Guadalajara, Mexico, of natural causes.
Services were Monday at the Sunset Hills cemetery in Bozeman, Mont.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church.
Dr. Evers was born June 21, 1907, to Peter A. and Marie (Schwanz) Evers in Billings, Mont. Both his parents died when he was a young child, so he was raised by an uncle and aunt in Ravenna. He graduated from Ravenna High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of Xi Psi Phi Fraternity. He graduated in 1931 from the School of Dentistry at Lincoln. He opened his practice in Cairo.
He married
Eldora Harrod of Burwell on Aug. 22, 1932. In 1938, he moved to Bozeman, Mont., where he continued his practice until his retirement in 1979. They moved to California in 1988. She died in 1990. He moved to Chapala, Mexico, in November 1997 with his son, Bill.
He was a charter member of Masonic Lodge 324 of Cairo, Scottish Rite of Livingston, Mont., Algeria Shrine Temple in Helena, Mont. and the Bozeman Shrine Club. He also was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bozeman, Bozeman Elks Lodge No. 463, Bozeman Chamber of Commerce, American Dental Association, Montana Dental Association and the Sixth District Dental Society.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul of Fort Worth, Texas, Herbert of Hickman and Louis of Soldier, Iowa; a daughter, Harriet Kay; a son, Bill of Chapala; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Donna Luther
Donna Jean Luther, 61, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Mrs. Luther's remains were cremated. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or the Overland Trails Council.
