Leonard McLean
MESA, Ariz. -- Leonard Jacob McLean, 80, of Mesa, Ariz., died May 16, 1999, at Mesa.
Joint memorial services for Mr. McLean and his wife, Mary Louise (Clement) McLean, who died on Aug. 8, 1996, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pierce Chapel near Clarks. Burial will be in the Pierce Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Pierce Chapel and Cemetery.
The couple lived in Merrick County and moved to Mesa following retirement.
Alice Kirkpatrick
Alice May Kirkpatrick, 93, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Lakeview Rehabilitation/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Third City Christian Church. The Rev. Scott Jones will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Lincoln Memorial Park cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Grand Generation Day-care Center.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born on June 8, 1907, in Greenleaf, Kan., to James Forrest and Clara (Wertenbee) Ayres. She attended Greenleaf Public School and graduated in 1924. She attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where she obtained a life certificate for teaching elementary grades. She taught for 11 years.
She married
Sherman Kirkpatrick on July 13, 1937, in Poteau, Okla. She helped her husband, who served as a Christian Church minister in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska for 42 years. She taught children's and adult Sunday school classes, directed the choir, played piano and sang in the church choir.
The Kirkpatricks moved to Grand Island in 1991 to live with their daughter and son-in-law. Mr. Kirkpatrick died in 1992. Mrs. Kirkpatrick moved to Lakeview Rehabilitation/Nursing Center two and a half years ago due to failing health.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann (Mrs. Larry) Gerdes of Grand Island; three granddaughters; and five great-granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, J.R. Ayres.
Serena Kramer
Serena Kramer, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1921, at Wolbach to Jens Peter and Gertrude (Osterloh) Jensen. She was educated in country schools in the Wolbach area.
She married
Frank Kramer in 1941 in Wayne. They lived in Greeley.
She married
Harlan Luebbe in 1962 in Grand Island. She worked at Fonner Park and International Sensor Systems of Aurora.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She loved gardening and enjoyed flowers.
Survivors include three sons, LeRoy Kramer and Dale Kramer, both of Grand Island, and Paul Kramer of Wolbach; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Buster Jensen of Wolbach; and two sisters, Pat Miller and Mary Nerly, both of Des Moines, Iowa.
Her husband, Harlan Luebbe, died in 1981. She also was preceded in death by one grandson; one brother, LeMoines Jensen; and one sister, Elaine Quirk.
Virginia Freeman
ST. PAUL -- Virginia N. Freeman, 79, of St. Paul died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home.
Richard Luebbe
AURORA -- Richard Luebbe, 61, of Aurora died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Luebbe was cremated, and there will be no services. Higby Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Luebbe was born on June 4, 1939, at Archer to Lawrence and Irene (Gillham) Luebbe. He grew up on the family farm and was in the last graduating class of Archer High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy for several months following graduation.
He married
Barbara "Bonnie" Palu on Oct. 18, 1963, in Hastings. The couple farmed near Archer for several years before returning to Grand Island to work for Hoppe Redi Mix. He also worked at Rector Redi Mix and Overland Redi Mix in Aurora as a dispatcher.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Kenneth of Central City and Roger of Grand Island; and a sister, Pat Weller of Palmer.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William.
Ken Markworth
PALMER -- Kenneth "Ken" Markworth, 66, of Palmer died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Burial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Dean Welch will officiate.
Palmer Funeral Home of Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Lillian Vasicek
ORD -- Lillian Vasicek, 83, of Ord died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.

Lew Grosshans
BEATRICE -- Lewis H. "Lew" Grosshans, 85, of Beatrice died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Beatrice Manor.
Services were on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice. The Rev. Jimmy Shelbourn officiated. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery.
Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church and the Blue Valley Shrine Roadrunners.
Mr. Grosshans was born on Aug. 12, 1915, at Stockham to August A. and Margaret Griess Grosshans. He graduated from Stockham High School.
He married
Neva Bolinger on April 20, 1935, at Belleville, Kan. The couple lived in Lincoln, Hastings and Grand Island before moving to Beatrice in 1946. Mr. Grosshans enlisted in the U.S. Army Infantry in February 1944 and served for two years during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.
He worked as a sales manager for Wheeler Transport for several years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice and was a past church trustee. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 26 A.F. and A.M., the Blue Valley Shrine Club, the Roadrunners and Jester. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 619, American Legion Bitting-Norman Post 27 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Geddes-Thober Post 1077. He was a member of the Nebraska Touchdown Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Nebraska Oil Jobbers Association, which he served as state president.
He enjoyed traveling, sports and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Richard "Rick" Grosshans; and two brothers, Victor and Arthur Grosshans.
