Doris Preston
LINCOLN -- Doris Ivene Preston, 75, formerly of Aurora, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her daughter's home in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Aurora. The Rev. Jerry Breese will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Preston was born on June 7, 1925, in Aurora to William A. and Martha (Smith) Kirkpatrick.
She grew up in Aurora, where she attended school until the ninth grade, when she quit school to take care of her dying mother.
She married
George E. Preston on Dec. 16, 1948, in Aurora. Mr. Preston died on Oct. 2, 1974. Mrs. Preston lived in Aurora until 1982 and then lived in Lincoln until 1997. After a fall in 1997, she moved in with her daughter Georgene until January 2000. She lived with her daughter Elsie in Lincoln from July 2000 until the time of her death.
She loved word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and bingo. She enjoyed driving in the country.
Survivors include one son, Leland "Lee" Preston of Hastings; two daughters, Elsie (Mrs. Larry) Loseke of Lincoln and Virginia Georgene (Mrs. Dick) Nunn of Aurora; two granddaughters; a step-grandson; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, James Kirkpatrick of Sheridan, Wyo.; and two sisters, Rosie Doell of Aurora and Gertrude Birkinbine of Yakima, Wash.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Maude Zornes, Mary Lantzer and Ollie Kirkpatrick; and two brothers, William A. and Robert G. Kirkpatrick.
Josephine McNeel
BRANSON, Mo. -- Josephine Mae Alexander McNeel, 58, of Branson, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel in Odessa, Mo. Pastor Glenn A. Artt will officiate. Burial will be in McKendree cemetery in Odessa.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ozark Area Association for the Blind, the McKendree cemetery Association or Hillcrest cemetery in Omaha.
Mrs. McNeel was born on May 2, 1942, in Omaha to Harold M. and Mildred A. (Dinsmore) Anderson. She attended South Omaha High School and graduated form the University of Nebraska at Omaha with an elementary education degree in 1965.
She married
David Herschel McNeel on June 21, 1980, in Grand Island. She taught at Highland Elementary School in Omaha. She also worked for Swift Meatpacking Co. in Grand Island as an accountant.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Nashua, Iowa, and Fredericka Lutheran Church in Fredericka, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sarah Jo McNeel, at home, and Vicki L. Phillips of Hastings; a son, Vince A. Harp of Hastings; six stepchildren, John T. McNeel of Concordia, Mo., Lynn S. Knodel, David S. McNeel and Darlene K. Higgins, all of Grand Island, Donna J. Schroeter of DuVall, Wash., and Doug L. McNeel of Honolulu; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Mildred A. Alexander Roubicek of Omaha; and a sister, Barbara Eckberg of Fountain, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Harold Bockbrader
Harold E. Bockbrader, 75, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Bockbrader was born July 18, 1925, at Hereford, Colo., to Henry and Martha (Obermier) Bockbrader. He moved with his family to Phillips and attended school there.
On July 19, 1953, he married
Golda Helzer at Grand Island. He owned and operated Harold's Service Station in Phillips until 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War until his discharge in 1956.
Following the service, he worked for Montgomery Ward and at Max's Conoco Station. He then went to work for Robert's Dairy and retired from there in 1988, after 29 years with the company.
He was a member of the Hall County Sheriff's Posse in the 1960s and helped patrol during the flood and at various events in Grand Island. He was also a member of the Aurora American Legion Post 42, the Grand Island V.F.W., Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Platt-Duetsche Society and Retired Teamsters.
His hobbies included collecting memorabilia for his "Go Big Red" room, Nebraska football, gardening, and decorating his yard at Christmas time. He also enjoyed camping and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ken of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Doris Lueth
Doris M. Lueth, 66, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at her home.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Carl Metcalf
Carl Metcalf, 86, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Naomi Morris
BROKEN BOW -- Naomi E. Morris, 92, of Broken Bow died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow with the Revs. Don Schauda and Steve Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Morris was born June 17, 1908, at Pierre, S.D., to Leon and Elizabeth (Fenske) Peltzer. She moved with her family to Custer County and graduated from Broken Bow High School. She attended Wayne State, Chadron State and Kearney State colleges. After her education, she taught school in Wayne County, Thomas County, Custer County and Garfield County for several years.
On August 18, 1934, she married
D. Phillip Morris at Julesburg, Colo. They lived in several communities before moving to Custer County in 1941. They lived south of Ansley and later south of Berwyn. In 1979, they retired and moved to Mason City. Mr. Morris died in 1998. At the time of her death, Mrs. Morris was living with her daughter, MaryAnn, in Broken Bow.
She was a member of the Berean Church in Ansley.
Survivors include three daughters, MaryAnn Hauser of Broken Bow, Roberta (Mrs. Bill) Dunn of Ainsworth and G. Sue (Mrs. Duane) Christiansen of Ansley; two sons, Louis Morris of Tuscon, Ariz., and Leon Morris of Purdum; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Thornhill of Mt. Grove, Mo., Vera Burdick of Cloquet, Minn., and Lila Proffitt of Superior, Wis.; and one brother, Alfred Peltzer of Broken Bow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
John Schaffert
AURORA -- John Schaffert, 85, of Aurora died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Hamilton Manor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. George E. Damm will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Schaffert was born Nov. 7, 1915, on a farm south of Aurora to John and Rose (Wagner) Schaffert. He spent his entire life in Hamilton County. He went to the brickyard schoolhouse through sixth grade and attended Salem Lutheran School in Hampton for seventh and eighth grades. He was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church on May 26, 1930. John was a corporal in the Army during World War II.
He married
Virginia Happold on April 5, 1942, at Salem Lutheran Church in Hampton. He farmed south of Aurora until 1965. He also auctioneered for most of his working life and at one time owned the Aurora Livestock Market. He purchased Mitchell Recreation Club in 1965 and operated it for 25 years.
He owned, trained and raced horses.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton and a lifetime member of the Aurora American Legion. He was also a member of the FFA, Lions Club of Aurora, Aurora Country Club and Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha.
Survivors include his wife Virginia of Aurora; one daughter, Sherry (Mrs. Delmar) Peters of Aurora; four sons, John Schaffert II of Doniphan, Deryl "Buck" Schaffert of Aurora, Greg Schaffert of Harrison, N.Y., and Chris Schaffert of Aurora; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren.
