Michael Totzke
Michael P. Totzke, 30, of 2323 Bellwood Dr. No. 183, died Thursday, October 26, 2000, at his home.
Memorial services will be Monday, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Terry Brown will officiate. Mr. Totzke was cremated, and private burial of his cremains will be at a later date.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until service time with the family receiving friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Totzke was born March 3, 1970, at Omaha to Charles and Joyce (Olson) Totzke. He attended Omaha Public Schools.
He married
Kimberly McLaughlin on June 20, 1996, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple lived in Des Moines, Iowa, before moving to Grand Island this spring.
Survivors include his wife of Grand Island; one stepson, Jamie McLaughlin at home; two daughters, Chloe and Caitlyn, both at home; his father of Alda; two brothers, Les and Stewart of Omaha; four sisters, Melva and Diane of Omaha, Carol of California and Janet of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Helen Bishop
FULLERTON -- Helen L. Bishop, 87, of Fullerton, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at the Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Wendell Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bishop was born Oct. 12, 1913 in Nance County to Laird and Ina Belle (Fitzgerald) Sidders. She grew up and was educated in Nance County.
She married
Roy Bishop in 1932 at York. They farmed north of Fullerton until 1975 when they moved into town. She lived in Fullerton until last month when she moved to Integrated Health Services in Central City.
She enjoyed reading and playing bingo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fullerton and the Cedar Valley Extension Club.
Survivors include one son, Ron of Fullerton; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Don) Liske of Greeley and Shirley (Mrs. Steve) Equall of Lincoln; one sister, Genevive (Mrs. Harold) Anderson of Fullerton; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Milford "Sonny" Sidders; one infant son Richard; and two grandchildren, Ronda and Jeff Bishop.
Clarine Dickenson
BROKEN BOW -- Clarine Dickenson, 79, of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Charles Spence will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Dickenson was born April 11, 1920, in Overbrook, Kan. to Clarence and Anna (Ingle) Barbee. She received her education in Tray, Kan.
She married
Bob Dickenson on Feb. 7, 1942, in Glendale, Calif. She worked in the Bank of America and she and her husband sang for USO shows at several different US service camps. The couple moved to Troy, Kan., before moving to Broken Bow in 1955 where they were in business at Dickenson Jewelry.
She later taught rural school at Lillian, Gates, and Prairie Hill. She also worked at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home for 14 years, eight of which she served as an administrator.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow, the United Methodist Women's Guild, the P.E.O. Sisterhoods, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Broken Bow Area Retired Teachers.
She enjoyed music and singing with various groups and playing in the church bell choir.
Survivors include her husband, Bob; one son, Marc of Lincoln; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nickia.
Fritz Obermiller
LOUP CITY -- Fritz H. Obermiller, 92, of Loup City died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Loup City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas, Dennis and Roger Obermiller, all of Loup City; two daughters, DeAnna (Mrs. Larry) Cox of Kansas City, Mo., and Nancy (Mrs. Jerry) Rowe of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Kolhof of Scottsbluff and Lorella (Mrs. Bernard) Moomey of Alliance; and one brother, Leonard Obermiller of Leesburg, Fla.
Mary Ann Schindler
DOWNEY, Calif. -- Mary Ann Schindler, 76, of Downey, Calif., formerly of Greeley County, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000.
Services were Oct. 24 at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey. The Rev. John Maloney officiated. Burial was at the Rose Hills cemetery in Downey.
Mrs. Schindler was born Oct. 25, 1923, to William and Margaret (Schrum) Slattery on the family homestead near Brayton. She grew up in Greeley County and graduated from St. Joseph Academy at O'Connor in 1940. She worked in Omaha for five years and moved to California in 1945.
She married
Hess Schindler in Las Vegas in 1952. They had lived in Downey since 1953. Mr. Schindler died in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Jack) Pritchard of Riverside, Calif., and a son, Steven of Downey; three grandchildren; one brother, Robert of Grand Island; four sisters, Loretta (Mrs. Paul) Farlee of Grand Island, Alice (Mrs. Phil) Pass of Alhambra, Calif., Betty (Mrs. Ray) Linder of Brookings, S.D., and Rose Marie (Mrs. Ray) Bergholz of Grand Island.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and John.
'Dick' Henley
Richard "Dick" H. Henley, 66, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services are pending for later in the week in North Platte. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul EMTs.
Survivors include his fiancee, JoAnn Urbanski of St. Paul; and two brothers, Frank of Warner Robins, Ga., and Henry of Silver Springs, Md.
Alvin Deertz
PALMER -- Alvin Deertz, 89, of Palmer, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Mr. Deertz was born June 26, 1911, in Gage Valley of Howard County to Carl and Emma (Glause) Deertz. He grew up and attended Gage Valley school and then graduated from Palmer High School in 1929.
Following graduation, he began farming with his father on the home place. He remained there until his death.
He married
Evelyn Drawbaugh on Nov. 3, 1947, in Seward.
He was considered the community blacksmith. He enjoyed fixing motors, flying his own airplane and reading.
He was past president of the Howard County Farm Bureau and had served on the Gage Valley school board.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Carl of Palmer; three grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Drawbaugh of Palmer.
