Barbara Kula
FULLERTON -- Barbara Kula, 94, of Fullerton, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Litzenberg Hospital in Central City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Fullerton with Father Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service followed by a St. Ann's rosary.
Emily Lonowski
ORD -- Emily Lonowski, 95, of Ord died Friday, Oct. 14, 2000 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Bob Rooney officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Rescue Unit.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
'Archie' Shotkoski
ARCADIA -- Arthur "Archie" F. Shotkoski, 74, of Arcadia died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City and will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Private cremation will be held following the service. Military honors will be by the Loup City American Legion Post No. 48.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Shotkoski was born Oct. 4, 1926, to Frank and Veronica (Kuta) Shotkoski in Loup City. He grew up and attended school in Loup City. Later he attended Kearney State College and earned a bachelor of science at the University of Nebraska in economics and agronomy in 1951.
He married
Helen Ruth Blockwitz on Nov. 29, 1958, in Lincoln. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, American Legion, Eagles and Elks.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Dennis) Jurgens of Blue Springs, Terri (Mrs. Joe) Cahoj of Olathe, Kan., Denise (Mrs. Tom) Kuligowski of Loup City and Amy Sue (Mrs. Charlie) Deats of Marble Falls, Texas; two sons, Frank Shotkoski of Cary, N.C., and Larry Shotkoski of Omaha; three grandchildren; three sisters, Rose Kowalski and Clara Krzycki, both of Loup City, and Florence Fattig of Grand Island; and two brothers, Alex Shotkoski of Loup City and Bernard "Boom" Shotkoski of Arcadia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward "Fritz" Shotkoski and two sisters, Emma Badura and Bernadine Shotkoski.
Dorothy Lizzie Heisner
Mt. VERNON, MO. -- Dorothy Lizzie Heisner, 88, of Mt. Vernon, Mo., formerly of Ord, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County Historical Society of Loup City.
Wayne Krauss
Wayne V. Krauss, 78, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Wilcox cemetery in Wilcox.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Methodist Church or St. Francis Oncology Unit.
Mr. Krauss was born June 14, 1922, in Wilcox to Fred and Tadie (Eschen) Krauss. The family moved to Cambridge where he attended school at District 70 and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in World War II, obtaining the rank of Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. He served aboard the USS Cougar II torpedo patrol gunship on advanced forward patrol for the United States fleets in the Pacific and Asiatic Pacific war theater. He was the survivor of six invasions and was wounded in action while on patrol between Okinawa and Japan.
He was honorably discharged in 1945.
On Aug. 30, 1943, he married
Geraldine Jones in Oberlin, Kan. After his military discharge the couple lived in Cambridge where he owned and operated a machine shop from 1946 to 1956. He worked for K-N Energy from 1956 to 1960 when the couple moved to Kearney and he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation.
The couple moved to Grand Island in 1960 and in 1964 he transferred to the General Services Administration where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 0300, the VFW Post 1347 and the Eagles Club. His hobbies were fishing, metal detecting and puttering in his garage.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Krauss of Grand Island; two daughters, Sue (Mrs. James) Smith of St. Peters, Mo., and Pamela (Mrs. Rex) Vitale of Beatrice; one sister, June Frank of Cambridge; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Elaine Mary Krauss; one sister, Leona Ogorzolka and one brother, Cecil Krauss.
Margery Melkus
Margery Wochner Melkus, 88, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island with the Rev. Don Larmore officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday with the Catholic Daughter's rosary at 4 p.m. Monday. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Central Catholic School.
Mrs. Melkus was born April 1, 1912, in York to Fred and Ada (Price) Wochner. She grew up in York and graduated from York High School in 1929.
She worked in North Platte before her family moved to Grand Island.
On Oct. 26, 1936, she married
Leonard Melkus.
She was a member of St. Mary's Parish and was active in the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Bible Study Club and numerous youth activities.
Survivors include three sons, Rover Melkus of Flower Mound, Texas, Gordon Melkus of Clovis, Calif., and Richard Melkus of Omaha; two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Joe) McCluskey of York and Rita (Mrs. Frank) Sargent of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Daniel Robert and one sister, Marie.
