Llewella Djernes
CENTRAL CITY -- Llewella O. Djernes, 99, of Central City, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Solt Funeral Home Chapel in Central City. The Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Central City United Methodist Church.
Charlotte Hromas
KENESAW -- Charlotte Ann Hromas, 63, of Kenesaw, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church in Kenesaw. The Rev. Eric Parker will officiate. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Hromas was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Hastings to Floyd Everson and Orfha Elizabeth Johnson Woodman. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1954.
She married
John (Gene) Hromas on May 3, 1959, in Kenesaw. She worked at Hastings Utilities for awhile. In 1972 she started to work for Adams County Bank in Kenesaw. She retired as an assistant cashier in 1989. In 1998 she went to Haven Home.
She was a member of the Methodist Women Group and the United Methodist Church in Kenesaw and the Kenesaw Senior Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann (Mrs. Schell) Fritz of O'Neill; two sons, Brian of Omaha and Greg of Dallas; two sisters, Marcila Fletcher of Fort Worth, Texas, and Darlene Barker of Lincoln; two brothers, Larry Woodman of Kenesaw and Dean Woodman of Shelton; and one grandson.
Ervin Lambert
RAVENNA -- Ervin J. Lambert, 82, of Ravenna, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Ravenna Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Gary Sawyers
CENTRAL CITY -- Gary E. Sawyers, 56, of Denver, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital in Denver.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Orville and Gladys Sawyers of Grand Island; one son, Thomas of Central City; three daughters, Angela (Mrs. Bill) Grimes, Kimberly (Mrs. Jodi) Makowski, and Mandie Sawyers, all of Central City; one sister, Diana Lenhart of Pierson, Iowa; one brother, Scott Sawyers of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and a special friend, Margie of Denver.
Clinton McIntosh
MARQUETTE -- Clinton B. "Benny" McIntosh, 92, of Marquette died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Long-term Care in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Revs. Chuck Crabtree and Melvin Loge will officiate. Burial will be in the Mamre Free Church cemetery near Marquette.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Al) Hoegh of Davenport, Fla.; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and one brother, James of California.
Lyle Rachow
GIBBON- Lyle E. Rachow, 36, of Gibbon died Thursday, May 11, 2000, southwest of Gibbon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Rachow was born May 27, 1963 at Hebron to Buford E. and Darlene K. (Cool) Rachow. He grew up on a farm where his father worked. He attended school in Gibbon and Litchfield where he graduated in 1982.
In past years, he worked at Cargill, for farmers. He worked at Deluxe Manufacturers in Kearney at the time of his death.
Mr. Rachow enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and cutting wood with his father and brothers.
He was a member of the Faith United Church.
Survivors include his father and step-mother Virginia of Hazard; his mother and step-father Roland of Gibbon; one son, Thaddeus of Albion; two daughters, Bethany and Hillary of Albion; two brothers, Larry and Lonnie of Gibbon; one sister, Lynette Gillming of Kearney; and two grandfathers, Orion Rachow of Hebron and Bill Cool of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mable Rachow and Margaret Cool.
Virginia Sydzyik
LINCOLN - Virginia Sydzyik, 75, of Lincoln died Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Douglas County Hospital in Omaha of cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Rev. Ken Gross will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
A wake will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Been-Belford Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Visitation will follow at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggest to the charity of the givers' choice.
Mrs. Sydzyik was born in Omaha and was adopted by Robert and Josephine McMullen. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1947.
She worked at the Grand Island Ordinance Plant in the munitions department. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa and St. Mary's Church in Grand Island. She was a member of the Grand Island Order of Eastern Star Rebekah Lodge and was a 30-year member of the Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Dian (Mrs. Larry) Wilson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Donna Jo Miles of Campbellsville, Ky.; and Georgia (Mrs. David) Elrod of Lincoln; one half-sister, Donna Schuster of Hastings; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Catherine Price
Catherine A. Price, 87, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Douglas Stensby and the Rev. Gretchen Diers officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Price was born Nov. 11, 1912, at Stockville to George J. and Katherine (Fischer) Dold. The family moved to Omaha in 1929 where she completed her education, graduating from Omaha South High School. Following graduation, she worked in Omaha as a bookkeeper for a short period of time.
She married
Henry James "Hank" Price on Oct. 5, 1940, in Omaha. They moved to Grand Island in 1942 with Mr. Price's employment with the telephone company. Mr. Price died Nov. 19, 1992.
Mrs. Price worked full time as a secretary at Walnut Junior High and later at Edith Abbott Memorial Library. She retired in 1967.
Mrs. Price was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and active in Ladies Aide. She also was a member of the Liederkranz and the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed her church work, her home and being with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Jim and Hank, both of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Ruth Watkins; and a brother, Arthur Dold.
