Benito Casares Sr.
Benito R. Casares Sr., 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. parish rosary.
Raynold Lukasiewicz
Raynold J. Lukasiewicz, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Farwell, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Park Place.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery near Farwell with graveside military honors.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or donor's choice.
Mr. Lukasiewicz was born on Jan. 26, 1917, on a farm near Farwell to Leo and Kate (Larkowski) Lukasiewicz. He grew up on the family farm and attended District 47 School. He was later employed as a welder in Omaha.
Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the United States Navy in October 1941. He served 40 months in the South Pacific and was engaged in numerous battles. He was a 2nd Class metalsmith and was discharged in October 1945 as chief petty officer. He then returned to Farwell, where he owned and operated Ray's Shop for 44 years.
He married
Phyllis Piechota on Oct. 27, 1947, at Ashton. The couple lived in Farwell until August 1999, when they moved to Grand Island. In January 2001, he moved to Park Place, where he has since lived.
He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918, both of St. Paul. He also served on the Farwell town board, school board and volunteer fire department.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; one daughter, Jane (Mrs. Larry) Chrastil of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Daniel of Farwell; and one sister, Yvonne (Mrs. Ernie) Wolinski of Farwell.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Lukasiewicz.
'Rusty' Reichstein
WOOD RIVER -- Dwight 'Rusty' Reichstein, 78, of Wood River died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Memorial services will be Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with the Rev. John McKinnley officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oscoe cemetery near Campbell.
Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Center in Wood River or to the family.
Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Dominicek Roublicek
AURORA -- Dominicek Roublicek, 81, of Aurora died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Memorial services will be at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island at a date to be announced later.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Roublicek was cremated.
Mr. Roublicek was born on June 21, 1919, at Valparaiso to Dominick and Mary (Mucklivch) Roublicek. He attended school in Valparaiso and in his younger years, worked on the family farm. He spent several years at the State Home in Beatrice before coming to Grand Island, where he was employed at the Veterans Home.
After retiring, he continued to live in Grand Island until moving to Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, riding his bicycle and spending time at the Grand Generation Center.
He was a member of the Catholic faith and attended Blessed Sacrament and St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. At the time of his death, he was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers.
Russell Beck
CAMPBELL -- Russell E. Beck, 67, of Campbell, formerly of Clarks, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Burial will be in the Pierce Chapel cemetery near Clarks.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Pierce Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Beck was born on Feb. 18, 1934, in Clarks to Walter L. and Mabel L. (Trullinger) Beck. He grew up near Clarks and attended Pleasant Hill School. He lived at home with his parents until the late 1960s. At this time, he went to live in Bethesda Care Center in Central City and then in Aurora. For the past several years, he had lived at Grandview Manor in Campbell.
He was a member of the Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church near Clarks. He enjoyed watching football on television, reading maps and atlases and drawing.
Survivors include two brothers, Walter "Duane" of Columbus and Bill L. of Clarks; and three sisters, Mary L. Booth of Clarks, Jeanette Whipple of Boelus and Margaret Ann Zumbrunn of Pine, Colo.
Lois Grabowski
OMAHA -- Lois Grabowski, 72, of Omaha died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Bethany Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha. Burial will be in the St. Mary Magdalene cemetery in Omaha.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. vigil service at the Bethany Funeral Home in LaVista. Family will also be receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Grabowski from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Rev. Elmer Fund at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Mrs. Grabowski was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Grand Island to Curtis and Mabel Kelley.
Survivors include six sons, Steve, Jerry, Tom, Kevin, Jake and Luke; three daughters, Sheila (Mrs. Ron) Kintzle, Angela (Mrs. Jerry) Brouwer and Melanie Grabowski; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford Kelley; and a special friend, Benji.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Grabowski; and two brothers.
Hazel Alden
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Hazel B. Alden, 100, of Missoula, Mont., formerly of Aurora, died April 2, 2001.
Memorial services were held in Missoula. Burial took place in the Aurora cemetery in Nebraska.
There was no visitation. Miss Alden was cremated.
Miss Alden was born on April 22, 1900, in Aurora to Bert and Ione (DeWaters) Alden. She attended grade and high school in Aurora, graduating in 1918. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor of fine arts degree with a major in music.
Accompanied by her late mother, and after graduating from the University of Nebraska, she spent one year teaching vocal music at the Deer Lodge, Mont., High School. She then joined the faculty of School District 1 in Missoula, Mont., where she taught until retiring in June 1964. After her retirement, she traveled to foreign countries of the Atlantic and Pacific regions.
Miss Alden was prominent in Missoula as a vocal soloist and was a choir member at the First Presbyterian Church. She directed the choir at the First Baptist Church there for 10 years.
She was a member of the Sigma Alpha Lota national music honorary at the University of Nebraska and Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma at Missoula, an educational honorary. She also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women's Association as well as the Retired Teachers Association, all of Missoula.
