'Peg' Filbin
HEARTWELL-- Margaret "Peg" Filbin, 95, of Heartwell died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at her home north of Heartwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell with the Rev. James O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Family Catholic cemetery northeast of Heartwell.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Filbin was born on Feb. 2, 1906, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Thomas and Nora (Ryan) Shanahan. The family moved to the Axtell area when she was a baby, and she graduated from Kearney High School. She attended Kearney Normal and taught school for a time.
On Jan. 12, 1927, she married
Richard "Dick" Filbin. The couple farmed near Heartwell until retiring in 1966.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell and of the Altar Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Ann (Mrs. Dennis) Osterbuhr of Minden, Mary Phyllis (Mrs. Carl) Gilliland of Kansas City, Mo., and Peggy (Mrs. Jim) Pulver of Kenesaw; one son, James Filbin of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; one son, Richard; two brothers; and three sisters.
Julia Peterson
YORK -- Julia C. Peterson, 89, of York, formerly a longtime resident of Grand Island, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in York.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Raymond Wright
NORTH PLATTE -- Raymond A. "Teddy Bear" Wright, 40, a longtime resident of North Platte, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at York General Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at North Platte with Captains Kris and Mary Ann Wood of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Wright was born April 11, 1960, in Salina, Kan., to Raymond M. and Glenda L. (LaRue) Wright. He later moved to Nebraska. He worked for the city of North Platte in the 1980s, at which time he became a truck driver for various companies. He was most recently employed with Rawhide Carriers of Chapman.
He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and being with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda; three children, Rodney, Billy and Sandi; one grandchild, all of North Platte; three sisters, Sheila (Mrs. Russell) Sternberg of Gresham, Patricia (Mrs. Allen) Geiser of Giltner and Linda Wright of Grand Island; and his father and stepmother, Raymond and Betty Jean Wright of Carson City, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Raynold Lukasiewicz
Raynold J. Lukasiewicz, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Farwell died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Park Place.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
Anna Medbery
Anna B. Medbery, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Harms officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Scotia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island or Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia.
Mrs. Medbery was born May 12, 1912, in Greeley County to William and Katherine (Von Kampen) Winter. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. She graduated from Scotia High School in 1929.
On Jan. 5, 1938, she married
Marion Medbery at Burwell. The couple farmed in the Fish Creek area until 1959, when they moved to North Loup. They operated the North Loup Cafe through 1964.
Mrs. Medbery was also employed by the government through a community action program. She was a news corespondent for the North Loup Area, writing for the Ord Quiz newspaper. The couple also operated the M&M; Creamery and Produce Station from 1964 to 1967. Mr. Medbery died in May 1986. In 1990, Mrs. Medbery moved to Grand Island.
Recently, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She belonged to Bible studies and enjoyed playing cards, sewing, crocheting and reading.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wilbur of Neligh, Donald and Gary, both of Grand Island; one daughter, Betty (Mrs. Ralph) Green of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Malvin Winter of Scotia; and one sister, Lornie Johnson of Scotia.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one infant daughter; one granddaughter; and one brother, Mervin.
Doris Marshall
KEARNEY -- Doris Marshall, 88, of Kearney died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Mt. Carmel care home in Kearney.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Revs. Bob Neben and C.J. Willis will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to service Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or to Mt. Carmel care home.
Mrs. Marshall was born March 20, 1913, in Beaver City to Ira and Eunice (Lewis) Hester. She graduated from Beaver City High School and received her teacher's certificate from Kearney State Teachers College.
She married
Wayne Marshall on Jan. 2, 1938, in Kearney. She taught school in Axtell and then worked as bookkeeper for Schwesers in Kearney for 20 years. Mr. Marshall died on May 8, 1976.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Lions Club auxiliary and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
Her hobbies included gardening and arranging flowers. She also enjoyed assisting her husband during his career.
Survivors include one daughter, Marie Danburg of Kearney; two sons, David Wayne of Kearney and Dr. Larry Joe of Grand Island; two sisters, Irene Davis of Kearney and Evelyn Cotton of Scottsbluff; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
