Lauretta Bonnell
WOOD RIVER -- Lauretta C. Bonnell, 90, of Wood River died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center.
A private mass in her memory and in honor of the anniversary of her husband's death will Friday morning. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Rootstown, Ohio, prior to burial.
Mrs. Bonnell donated her body to the University of South Dakota for medical education and research.
Memorials are suggested to Central Nebraska Community Services for the prevention of child abuse.
Mrs. Bonnell was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Goldrick Landing, N.Y., and in 1939 married
James F. Bonnell, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1993.
She had a long career as a secretary and worked for many years as assistant to the president of Prentice Hall Publishing Co. prior to her retirement 25 years ago.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include three sons, Robert of Grand Island, James of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Harry of San Diego; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Darwin Hamm
FAIRBURY -- Darwin A. Hamm, 76, of Fairbury, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.
Services were March 30 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Fairbury. The Rev. William Grant officiated. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home of Fairbury was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hamm was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Thompson to Amos and Mary Ann (Jacobs) Hamm. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural grade school and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1942.
He attended Milford Technical School and graduated with a radio repair certificate.
He married
Rosalie Novak on May 3, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tobias.
He owned and operated Hamm's Tankwagon Service for the Daykin Farmers Union Coop for 25 years. He served as mayor of Daykin, city clerk, and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, Community Club and Daykin Businessmen.
He then moved to Grand Island in 1971 and worked for Island Welding and Supply. He rose to the rank of vice president of the Eagles Club.
He retired in 1999 due to health problems and returned to Fairbury in February 2000.
Survivors include four sons, Lyle of Houston, Lorenz of Lincoln, Lymon of Fairbury and Lance of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one daughter, LaRae (Mrs. Dennis) Endorf of Fairbury; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene (Mrs. Clarence) Smith of Jansen and Doris (Mrs. Cecil) Tamerius of Cuba, Kans.; and special friend, Terri Waskowiak of Grand Island.
Marvin Jacobi
CLARKS -- Marvin W. Jacobi, 84, of Clarks died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Ralph Supernaw officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Congregational Church of Clarks.
Mr. Jacobi was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Spalding to Albert and Hazel (White) Jacobi. He was raised in Nance and Merrick counties and received his education in Nancy County. In partnership with his brother, Raymond, he farmed and raised livestock in Merrick County. They retired in 1990 and moved into Clarks.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Company D, 119th Infantry, 30th Division; and served during World War II from September 1942 until October 1945. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart for being wounded in France in July 1944, the Bronze Star and a Unit Citation.
Mr. Jacobi was a member of the American Legion in Silver Creek for 56 years and a charter member of the Clarks V.F.W. Honoring his fallen comrades was very important to Mr. Jacobi, and he had participated in the Memorial Day Services every year since 1945.
He enjoyed going to garage sales and fishing with his good friend, Hollis Stromberg.
Survivors include two brothers, Jim of Clarks and John of Genoa; and one sister, Peggy (Mrs. Lisle) Mangelsen of Central City.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanette Salyers; and two brothers, Raymond and Merle.
Della McIntosh
GREELEY -- Della B. McIntosh, 85, of Greeley died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Greeley United Methodist Church. The Revs. Cynthia Altstadt and Charles Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Greeley City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. McIntosh was born Dec. 10, 1915, in Greeley County, near Ericson, to Alden H. and Charlotte J. (Morris) Cushman. She attended rural school and Ericson High School.
She married
Lawrence F. McIntosh on Sept. 4, 1933, at Ord. The couple lived in Ewing and Grand Island. In 1936, they moved to Greeley. She worked as a cook for the Greeley School and was also a housekeeper. Mr. McIntosh died Oct. 12, 1968. She was a resident of the Greeley Care Home from 1997 until just recently when she became a resident of Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
She was a member of the Greeley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, flowers and fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte (Mrs. Clyde) Kraft of Grand Island; one brother, Cecil Cushman of Burwell; two sisters, Myrtle Sylvara of Burwell and Wilma Gosda of Grand Island; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Hayworth; one brother, Claude Cushman; and three half-sisters, Ada Hayworth, Nina Hardy and Leah Dutcher.
Robert Caulkins
Robert L. Caulkins, 90, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.
Mr. Caulkins was born June 29, 1910, at Aurora to George and Mary (McConnell) Caulkins. He was raised on a family farm in Hamilton County where he attended rural school.
He married
Verleen Whitlake on June 17, 1933, at Aurora. They moved to Oregon in 1934. Later they lived in Chapman from 1942 to 1958 and then lived in Grand Island. He was employed by the Grand Island Public School System for 30 years, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Caulkins died on Jan. 16, 2000.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors include a son, Sterling Caulkins of Phillips; two daughters, Virginia Eilders of Solomon, Kan., and Connie Braithwaite of Berwyn; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister.
