Larry Leep
KEARNEY -- Larry L. Leep, 61, of Kearney died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital after a short illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ron Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Friday afternoon at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, the Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Fund or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Mr. Leep was born June 26, 1939, in Sargent to Edwin and Agnes (Huss) Leep. The family moved to Grand Island, and he graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1957. Following his graduation, he served in the National Guard.
He married
Donna J. Baker on Oct. 24, 1982, in Golden, Colo., and they lived in Grand Island until moving to Kearney in 1983. He was employed as a sales manager for Chief Construction Co. in Grand Island.
He was baptized in Trinity Methodist Church in Grand Island. He enjoyed his grandchildren, spending time with his family and working in his yard. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Lisa Ruzicka of Grand Island; one son, Jeffrey Leep of Grand Island; two stepsons, Mike Andreasen of Grand Island and Jeffrey Andreasen of Kearney; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Judy Hansen of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
Christyna Wadkins
LINCOLN -- Christyna L. Wadkins, 11, of Lincoln died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Myron Pleskac officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be at noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln. There will be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lincoln.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
She was a member of Girl Scout Troop 494 Service Unit 618 and of the mission club.
Survivors include her parents, Pat and Karen of Lincoln; one brother, Patrick of Lincoln; grandparents Dennis and Jane Wadkins of Grand Island and Carl and Pat Buzzard and Linda and Harold Bartlett of Lincoln; and great-grandparents Mildred Conley of Louisville and Fahy and Velma Wadkins of Lexingon.
Francis Perkins
Francis Perkins Jr., 66, of Grand Island, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Perkins was born July 14, 1934, in Arborville to Francis S. and Ethel E. (VanBibber) Perkins. The family moved to Grand Island where he attended Walnut Junior High and Grand Island Senior High and graduated in 1953.
He worked at Bill's Trading Post while in high school and after graduation went to meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio.
He came back to Grand Island and worked in the meat department of O.P. Skaggs and later worked as manager of the IGA meat department for many years. He worked for Monfort a few years before working for GIA. Later, he became a custodian for Grand Island Senior High and retired in the fall of 2000 due to ill health.
His greatest help and support system throughout his illness was his special nephew Don Walters, who died Oct. 25, 2000.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, had served as a 4-H leader, enjoyed gardening, and loved spending time with his horses -- especially "Pokey Jo."
He also enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Wray and Monte, both of Grand Island; three daughters, Kathy (Mrs. Howard) Nachtman of Inman, Christi (Mrs. Jim) Coventry and Julie (Mrs. Lewie) Crist, both of O'Neill; two brothers, Kenneth and Jim, both of Grand Island; two sisters, Maude (Mrs. Clarence) Walters and Patty (Mrs. Tony) Calvo, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cynthia; and one brother, Charles.
Louise Visek
SARGENT -- Louise Visek, 96, of Sargent died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with the Rev. Marty Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Wilma Young
ALBION -- Wilma O. Young, 82, of Albion died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion.
Funeral services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Emma Scripture
YORK -- Emma Scripture, 96, of York, formerly of Primrose, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Hearthstone Nursing Home in York.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Primrose. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in the Dublin cemetery in Primrose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Scripture was born Dec. 22, 1904, on a farm near Primrose to John and Hane (Skitt) Holland. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church of Primrose. She attended school at Boone County School District 70 near Primrose.
She married
Leo Scripture on Jan. 27, 1925, in Omaha. They lived on several farms in the Primrose area. In addition to helping on the farm, she worked at the Post Office and the grocery store. In 1965, they moved into Primrose.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Primrose since 1925 as well as belonging to the Presbyterian Women where she served in the various offices.
She was active in the Starlite Club, the Dublin Community Club, and the Primrose American Legion Auxiliary where she had been secretary/treasurer.
She lived in York the past several years.
Survivors include one granddaughter, Tami (Mrs. Fred) Jackson of York; and one great-granddaughter also of York.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; two sons, Willard and Leo Jr.; one brother; and three sisters.
