Louie Mendyk
ASHTON -- Louie W. Mendyk, 86, of Ashton, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery at Paplin.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mendyk was born March 9, 1915, on a family farm near Paplin to Theodore and Margaret (Gappa) Mendyk. He received his early education in Paplin area schools. As a young man, he worked for one year as a mechanic at a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Oregon, and later moved to Omaha where he held several jobs before going to work for Greyhound Bus Lines.
He married
Carmella A. Cavallaro on Nov. 21, 1943, in Omaha. He worked for Trailways Bus Line for 25 years before his retirement. In 1977, the couple moved to Ashton where they lived on an acreage. In June 1998, he moved to the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, his dogs and driving his tractor. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church of Ashton.
Survivors include his wife; one sister, Theresa Cavanaugh of Grand Island; and caregivers Craig and Joyce Kamler of Ashton.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Connie Kuszak, Bertha Wagner, Evelyn Gier, Mary Mendyk and Cecelia Peters; and three brothers, Walter, Sylvester and Floren Mendyk.
Wilbur Kuhl
LOUP CITY -- Wilbur Kuhl, 80, of Loup City, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City, with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post No. 48.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Kuhl was born Jan. 6, 1921, at Loup City to William P. and Emma (Schwaderer) Kuhl. He attended school at the Wiggle Creek School. He was baptized at the Evangelical and Reform Church. He later joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He farmed throughout his life in Sherman County. On March 28, 1945, he was inducted into the Navy and served as a Seabee in Guam. He was discharged on July 3, 1946.
In June 1994, he retired from farming and moved to the Westside Apartments in Loup City.
He was a lifetime member of the Loup City American Legion Post and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one brother, Lawrence "Bill" of Ravenna and one sister, Doris Treffer of Loup City.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray.
Robyn Sayer
CAMBRIDGE -- Robyn Gaylene Sayer, 38, of Cambridge, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Hitchcock County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge. The Rev. Art Phillips will officiate. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery in Cambridge.
Memorials are suggested in her name.

Mrs. Sayer was born on May 23, 1962, in Broken Bow to Dale and Lucille (Finley) Poland. She attended grade school at Berwyn and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1980. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Hastings College in 1984. She was then employed by the Herdon Schools in Herdon, Kan.
She married
David Sayer, Jr. on July 20, 1988, in Victoria Springs Park.
She was a carrier for the Grand Island Independent for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Austin, Dawn and Erik of Cambridge; her mother; two brothers, Alan and Greg Poland, both of Berwyn; and one sister, Ivie Bennett of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Jessie Conn
Jessie B. Conn, 89, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Denton Jantzi will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Conn was born on July 5, 1911, at Salem, Ill., to Jerome D. and Lillian C. (Tulp) Adams. She grew up and attended school in the Chicago area.
She married
William Prate in 1926. Mr. Prate died in 1938.
She married
Floyd Conn in 1939. The Conns ran a restaurant in Elgin, Ill., for about three years. She later lived in Three Oak, Mich.
Mrs. Conn moved to Grand Island in 1991.
She was president of the Chicago and Northwestern Engineers Wives Club and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include one daughter, Audrey Gunn of Grand Island; three sons, Marvin Prate of Spring Hill, Fla., Terry Conn of Harvard, Mich., and Wayne Conn of Addison, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Jerry Prate; one daughter, Betty Prate; and three sisters, Irene Vartkus, Juanita Brown and Virginia Heter.
Lola Silk
Lola L. Silk, 93, of Grand Island, formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Denny Silk will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lillie Foth
ORD -- Lillie Foth, 98, of Ord died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mira Valley Methodist Church. The Rev. Paixao Baptista will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
