James Harrell
TRUMBULL -- James Dean Harrell, 62, of Trumbull died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Webster City, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. The Rev. Gerald Schwab will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood cemetery at Trumbull.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Harrell was born on Jan. 14, 1938, in Hastings to Floyd and Oma (Lanfear) Harrell. He grew up in Hansen and attended Hastings High School before moving to rural Hall County. He graduated from Trumbull High School in 1955.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he earned his paratrooper's wings as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was recalled to active duty in 1961 and served until 1963. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned home to farm.
He married
Ann McKillips on Dec. 29, 1963, in Grand Island. He continued farming until 1985, when he began driving a truck. He drove for Speedway Transportation and then for R Lazy K for 13 years. He worked for Van Diest Supply at the time of his death.
He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings and was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Wesley Harrell of Lincoln; one daughter, Courtney (Mrs. Keith) Bumgardner of Hastings; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Georga Ochsner of Hastings and Madeleine Rohs of Hershey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry Trentman
BENT, N.M. -- Jerome J. "Jerry" Trentman, 75, formerly of St. Libory and Wood River, died Aug. 19, 2000, at his home near Bent, N.M.
Mr. Trentman was cremated. A private burial will take place later.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1924, at St. Libory to Libory and Esther (Strehle) Trentman. He moved with his family to Wood River in 1937 and graduated from Wood River High School in 1943.
Mr. Trentman served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Europe.
After his retirement from the Army as a master sergeant, he and his wife, Hannelore, moved to Bent, N.M. He received his bachelor's degree in education from New Mexico State University at Las Cruces and taught special education at Tularosa, N.M., Junior High School until retiring in 1990.
Mr. Trentman was a former scoutmaster and a volunteer and emergency medical technician with the Bent Fire Department.
Survivors in addition to his wife; a son, Dan of Oregon; a daughter, Nora (Mrs. Michael) Teubner of Australia; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Dorelia Vaughn of Bethal Island, Calif., and Annette McDonald of Camp Verde, Ariz.
Basil Brown
Basil I. Brown, 80, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Shenandoah. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home .
Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson Foundation or the family.
Mr. Brown was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Foil, Mo., to John Gordy and Oma V. ( Ross) Brown. He grew up in Foil and Ava, Mo., and was attended the Ozark County, Little Creek School near Foil. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on July 1, 1942, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on April 20, 1946.
He married
Linora Harms Wynn on August 20, 1947, in Glenwood, Iowa. He helped his mother with six boys left at home after his father's death. Before 1959 he was a receiving clerk at Townsend Wholesale Grocery in Shenandoah. The couple then moved to Grand Island. They owned a Superior 400 Service Station (Gulf) until 1973. In 1975 the couple started Brownie's Pianos, where they bought and sold used pianos. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the VFW, Eagles Club and Travelers Protection Group.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Morise Wynn of Shenandoah and Richard Wynn of Lincoln; a stepdaughter, Barbara (Mrs. Jon) Smaha of Lincoln; nine step-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Shenandoah; twin brothers, Wylie and Willie of Grand Island; two sisters, Maxine Webber of Union, Mich., and Ruth Huffman of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Deward "Art," Doyle, Troy and Alfred and one sister, Okkie Johnson.
Ted Clanton Jr.
Theodore L. "Grandpa" Clanton Jr., 59, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Tooley will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ft. McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Clanton was born on August 25, 1941, in Wellsville, N.Y., to Theodore L. Sr., and Mary A. (Smith) Clanton. He received his education in the Wellsville area.
He entered the U.S. Army on July 14, 1959. His service included three tours in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge on Oct. 1, 1975.
He married
Kathiann McClelland on Dec. 5, 1985, at Boulder City, Ariz. They lived in Phoenix and Prescott, Ariz. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1989.
He was a Grand Island Independent truck driver for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Salvation Army Church and an American Legion Club member.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. For exercise he delivered 300 Grand Island Independent papers.
Survivors include his wife of Grand Island; one son, Theodore Clanton III; three daughters, Barbara Oyer and Mary Clanton, both of Hornell, N.Y., and Michele L. Patryas of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and one brother, Matthew of Grand Junction, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Thomas Brookins.
J.A. 'Sonny' Jones
J.A. "Sonny" Jones Jr., 30, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Atlantic, Iowa, where he was working.
Services are pending with the family in Sequin, Texas. The Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic is in charge of arrangements.
'Rob' Musil
Robert "Rob" Allen Musil, 65, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the All Faiths Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Musil was born on Jan. 31, 1936, at Ravenna to Edward and Dorothy (Darnell) Musil. He was raised and received his education in the Ravenna area.
On Feb. 9, 1952, he married
Marilyn Pugh in Hastings. They lived in Grand Island and Southern California. Mr. Musil worked construction.
He enjoyed NASCAR Racing. Mrs. Musil died Sept. 25, 1993.
Survivors include one son, Lonnie of Hastings; two daughters, Cindy (Mrs. Mike) Jarosz of Grand Island and Teri (Mrs. Tim) Staub of Omaha; seven grandchildren; one brother, Jim of Venice, Calif.; and one sister, Detta Baughman of Anaheim, Calif.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Randall and one brother, Vernon.
