Irma Dimmitt
BURWELL - Irma May Dimmitt, 76, of Burwell, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell of cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Michael Laing will officiate. Burial will be in the Kent cemetery near Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Community Memorial Health Center or the Burwell Rural Fire Department.
Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dimmitt was born July 31, 1924, in Loup County to William and Mable (Butts) Cronk.
She married
Oran "Bill" Dimmitt on Feb. 24, 1942, in Bassett. They lived in Virginia while Mr. Dimmitt was in the service. Mrs. Dimmitt returned to the Burwell area when her husband was sent to Alaska. After Mr. Dimmitt was discharged from the U.S. Army, they started farming and ranching, and continued to do so until Mr. Dimmitt died on Feb. 23, 1988.
Mrs. Dimmitt enjoyed gardening, drawing, playing piano, playing cards and cooking at harvest. She also loved all animals, especially dogs and cats.
Survivors include three daughters Beverly (Mrs. Lee) DeGroff of Brewster, Kathy Harris of Omaha, and Peg (Mrs. Dale) Prickett of Burwell; one son Son Dimmitt of Burwell; a granddaughter who lived with them since her birth, Ann (Mrs. Korey) Johnson of North Platte; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jay Cronk of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Harley) Wyatt of Clifton, Colo., and Ruby Decker of Gothenburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter; four brothers, Bill, Fred, Charley and Richard, who died in infancy; and one sister, Evelyn Rhinehart.
Ivan Jackson
SHELTON - Ivan E. "Gino" Jackson, 71, of Shelton, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Service are pending with All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island.
Lorene Scott
FULLERTON -- Lorene G. Scott, 93, of Fullerton died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the Litzenberg Hospital in Central City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Wendell Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery in Fullerton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Mrs. Scott was born April 1, 1907, in Council Bluffs, to Marquardt C. and Christine K. (Thieschafer) Schoening. In 1909, she moved with her family to the Timber Creek area where she attended country schools and Belgrade High School graduating in 1926. She taught country school for two years at District No. 53, south of Belgrade.
She married
Leonard A. Scott on June 6, 1928, in Belgrade. In 1933, they moved to the Belgrade area where they raised horses and cattle and farmed for 60 years. They moved into Fullerton in 1976. Mr. Scott died on Nov. 20, 1993. She entered the Litzenberg Long Term in November 2000.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fullerton, past member of the United Methodist Church in Belgrade where she served as president of the United Methodist Ladies of Belgrade. She was a former member and officer of the Priscilla Rebekah Lodge, a former and officer of the Priscilla Rebekah Lodge, a former club leader of the Nance County 4-H Club and a former Extension Club leader and officer.
She enjoyed playing the piano, her clubs and cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Eugene R. Scott of Golden, Colo., and Ron Scott of Belgrade; one sister, Thelma Cook, of Albion; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Schoening and one grandchild.
Bessie Williams
AURORA -- Bessie Gaynelle (Avers) Williams, 92, of Aurora died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the Hamilton Manor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian U.C.C. Church in Aurora. The Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Higby Mortuary.
Mrs. Williams was born April 12, 1908, to Emiel H. and Edith S. (Joy) Avers on the family farm in Nuckolls County, south of Edgar. She attended country grade school and graduated from Edgar High School in 1925.
She married
Charles H. Williams on May 15, 1930, in Hastings. Mr. Williams worked as a mechanic for various companies including Grosshans in Aurora before opening his own repair shop in Aurora. She loved to cook and worked for various cafes in Aurora as well as the school system in Aurora. Even after retiring she continued to bake cookies and pies for people she knew. Mr. Williams died in December 1981. She continued to live in her own home until moving to Hamilton Manor in January 1999.
She was active in the Presbyterian Church, which she joined in 1935. When her son joined the Navy, she became a member of the Navy Mother's Club, attaining the office of Admiral. She also belonged to various clubs, enjoyed entertaining, as well as crocheting, donating many items to others.
Survivors include her son, Roger Williams of Hastings; two daughters, Bonnie Jensen of Grand Island and Marcine DeMaranville of Omaha; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Donovon Walters
BEATRICE -- Donovon Robert Walters, Sr., D.D.S., 80, of Beatrice, formerly of Albion, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Revs. Terry Otto and Seth Leypoldt will officiate. Burial will be in the Tilden City cemetery in Tilden. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 170 and VFW Post 7603 of Tilden.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Memorials are suggested to Wachiska Audubon Society in Lincoln, or the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union in Lincoln.
Mr. Walters was born April 18, 1920, at Tilden to Herman Robert and Mary (Lula) Louise Gordon Walters. He graduated from Tilden High School in 1938. He graduated from Wayne State College in 1942 with a major in English and botany.
He married
Susan Mary Lederer on May 14, 1942, in Norfolk. He was drafted out of college and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II.
He continued his education at the University of Nebraska Dental College where he graduated in 1947. During the Korean War, he entered the U.S. Air Force serving as captain and dental surgeon in the Airforce Dental Corps. He was stationed at the Lincoln Air Base until his discharge in April 1955.
His early dental practice was in Coleridge and Wayne before moving to Albion where he practiced from 1950 until 1973.
He married
Dorothy Catherine Hennings Leypoldt on Dec. 25, 1973, at the United Methodist Church in Albion. They lived in Watertown, S.D., from 1973 to 1975. In 1975, they moved to Beatrice where he served as director of Dental Services at Beatrice State Developmental Center until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, and several other dental socities. He was also a member of the Audubon Society, Nebraska Ornithologists' Union, Beatrice Tender Props, Beatrice Civic Garden Club and the Nebraska State Historical Society and served as a volunteer at the Homestead National Monument in Beatrice.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Donovon Walters Jr. of Omaha; three daughters, Deborah (Mrs. A.M.) Fink of Ames, Iowa, Kate (Mrs. Jeff) High of Lincoln and Grace Walters of New York City; two stepdaughters, Janice (Mrs. Patrick) Door of Tigard, Ore., and Catherine (Mrs. Leslie) Koch of Lincoln; five stepsons, Charles Leypoldt, Gary Leypoldt and James Leypoldt, all of Lincoln, Douglas Leypoldt of Ralston, and Steven Leypoldt of Beatrice; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace, Dorothy and Mildred, and a grandchild.
Jodi Schmaderer
IOWA CITY - Jodi L. Schmaderer, 29, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of St. Paul, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
