Amanda Rogers
Amanda D. Rogers, 63, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Dominic Pecoraro officiating. Burial will be in Cameron cemetery north of Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Rogers was born on Aug. 31, 1937, on a farm northwest of Wood River to Frank and Lydia (Goehing) Clark. She grew up and was educated in Wood River.
She married
Wayne Loghly in 1951. She married
Leonard Poppert in 1959, and on April 20, 1969, she married
Gary Rogers in Hastings. The couple lived in Grand Island.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Gary, of Grand Island; three daughters, Christine Golden of Grand Island, Thea Lynn Poppert of Greeley, Colo., and Angela Mae Poppert of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Towler of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne; an infant brother, and two half-brothers.
Clare Stewart
Clare V. Stewart, 82, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Knee will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery at a later date.
There will be no visitation because Mrs. Stewart was cremated.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Stewart was born July 26, 1918, in Winner, S.D., to Edward and Sybil L. (Brooks) McDonald. She moved with her family to various communities including Agenda, Kan., and Omaha, where she attended Omaha Benson High School, graduating in 1938. She then attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence for two years.
She married
Walter Stewart on June 25, 1943, in Omaha. The couple moved to Billings, Mont., until 1946 when they moved to Omaha. They then moved to McCook in 1948 and Grand Island in 1955, where she was employed by Leon Plastics in Alda and Spudnut Donuts.
She was a member of the New Life Wesleyan Church, Women's WWI at New Life Wesleyan and the Saddle Club. She was active in Brownies and Girl Scouts as a leader and was neighbor chairperson at West Lawn School.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Victoria Stewart of Beemer, Susan (Mrs. Stanley) Bigg of Kearney and Karen (Mrs. Alan Cooper) Stewart of Kalorama, Victoria, Australia; one sister, Alice Hoberg of Spencer, Iowa; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Alice.
Mary Tucker
Mary E. Tucker, 76, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at her home after an illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Lepper officiating. Burial will be in the Kearney cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Tabitha Home Health Care.
Mrs. Lepper was born March 24, 1924, in Warren, Ark., to Jordan and Lucy (Outlaw) Stuard. She graduated from Hermitage, Ark., High School in 1942.
In 1943 she married
Chester Wynn in Little Rock, Ark. He was killed in 1944 while serving in Germany.
On Dec. 3, 1949, she married
Glen Tucker. They lived in Oklahoma City for four years and later returned to Arkansas and lived in Conway and Warren.
They moved to Nebraska, living in Lexington, Kearney and Broken Bow before settling in Grand Island. She helped her husband at his chiropractic clinic and also enjoyed collecting angels and glass bells.
Survivors include her husband, Glen; four sons, Larry Wynn of Edgerton, Mo., Dr. Thomas Tucker of Kearney, Scott Tucker of Grand Island and Tracy Tucker of St. Paul; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia McConnell of Hot Springs, Ark.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Stuard and Thomas R. Stuard, and one sister, Mabel Curry.
Florence Blair
WOOD RIVER -- Florence Blair, 90, of Wood River died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Wood River with the Rev. Rose Bartleson officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center Alzheimer's Fund.
Mrs. Blair was born Jan. 29, 1911, to Charles and Johanna (Blumquist) Ruthstrom on a farm northwest of Boelus, where she grew up and attended school.
On Dec. 1, 1934, she married
Joe Rickert in Grand Island. They lived in the Wood River area until Mr. Rickert died in 1981.
In 1982 she married
Charles Blair. They moved to Ogden, Utah, and she moved back to Wood River after his death in 1987.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wood River, and enjoyed music, fishing, and entertaining friends by playing the piano.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Harders of Wood River; one son, Marvin Rickert of Wood River; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, five brothers and six sisters.
'Jan' Faber
GIBBON -- Janet L. "Jan" Faber, 62, of rural Gibbon died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at her home southeast of Gibbon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Charles Torpey officiating. Burial will be in Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. A prayer vigil will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit Fund.
Mrs. Faber was born Dec. 16, 1938, to Newton and Gertrude (Jurgens) More in Holdrege, where she grew up and received her education.
On July 23, 1958, she married
William "Bill" Faber Jr. in Shelton. They made their home in the Gibbon area and farmed and operated Bill and Jan's Restaurant and Lounge. They sold the lounge in 1992, retired from farming and opened BJ's Liquor Store the same year.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Steve of Gibbon; one daughter, Vicki Faber of North Platte; one grandchild; and three sisters, JoAnn Everett and Judy Danser, both of Holdrege, and Jackie VonLoh of Albuquerque, N.M.
