Lavern Franssen
LITCHFIELD -- Lavern "Shorty" Franssen, 73, of Litchfield died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in Palm Springs, Calif.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at West Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
There will be no visitation. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mason City or the American Cancer Society.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Franssen was born May 31, 1927, at Rockville to Herman and Mary (Placke) Franssen. He went to school in Boelus and graduated in 1944. He then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He married
Nadine "Denie" Eriksen on June 24, 1947, at St. Mary's Church in Rockville. The couple lived on a farm near Boelus for three years, and he worked with his parents at their hatchery business.
In 1950 they moved to Kearney, and Mr. Franssen joined his brother in running the Franssen Brothers poultry farm. The couple moved to Gibbon in 1957 where Mr. Franssen became a partner in H.A. Franssen and Sons grain elevator and fertilizer business. He sold the grain business in 1968 and continued farming near Gibbon.
In 1981 the couple moved to Little Acorn Ranch west of Litchfield. Mr. Franssen retired in 1992.
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mason City and the Lions Club 38R in Gibbon, where he served as district governor.
Survivors include his wife of Litchfield; one son, Bob of Danville, Calif.; two daughters, Cyndi (Mrs. Jeff) Walters of Allen, Texas, and Pam (Mrs. Chuck) Wakely of Palmdale, Calif.; one brother, Harold Franssen of Boelus; one sister, Mary Ann Lewandowski of Grand Island; and four grandchildren.
Robert Harris
FULLERTON -- Robert B. Harris, 70, of Fullerton died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home. The Rev. Wendell Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Donna Horn
FULLERTON -- Donna J. Horn, 73, of Fullerton died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Fullerton cemetery in Fullerton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Horn was born June 9, 1927, in Fullerton to George and Bessie (Hadley) Graves. She grew up and attended school in Fullerton. She worked for Dr. King in Fullerton.
She married
George "Pete" Horn on Feb. 5, 1945, in Grand Island. The couple farmed north of Fullerton until 1971 when they moved into Fullerton. Mrs. Horn worked at the Fullerton Livestock Cafe for 25 years.
She enjoyed oil painting, sewing quilts, crafts, flowers and baking. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary for 40 years, the Cedar Valley Extension Club and the Heritage Club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jerry Horn of Fremont and Jim Horn of Schuyler; one daughter, Connie (Mrs. Terry) Pachunka of Schuyler; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Vern) Justa of Mankato, Minn.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Mecek.
'Gino' Jackson
SHELTON -- Ivan E. "Gino" Jackson, 71, of Shelton, formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Curtis Holzworth officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Jackson was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Edgar to Donald and Dorothy (Sieh) Jackson.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1950.
On Dec. 18, 1971, he married
Jeryce Scott in Hastings where they lived until moving to Grand Island in 1973. They lived on a farm near Shelton for the past year.
He was self-employed as a brick mason, installed sprinkler systems and cut and sold firewood. He retired in 1983, and enjoyed animals and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Jeryce; one son, Jim T. Jackson of Grand Island; his mother, Dorothy Walters of Grand Island; one grandson; two brothers, Jim E. Jackson of Grand Island and Bob Jackson of Lincoln; and two sisters, Donna Kaliff of York and Bonnie Madison of Freeman, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Charlotte Lemburg
WOOD RIVER -- Charlotte A. Lemburg, 76, of Wood River died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Wood River with the Rev. Rose Bartleson officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Rescue Unit or Wood River Cemetery.
Lola Naslund
STROMSBURG -- Lola Naslund, 85, of Stromsburg, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg with the Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Rudloff
BROKEN BOW -- Gladys Rudloff, 85, of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at her home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford. The Rev. Loren Pohlmeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Baptist cemetery at Crawford.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford. There will be a wake and rosary service at 7 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Rudloff was born July 2, 1915, at Crawford to Robert and Mabel (Burnaugh) Lux. She attended school at Crawford and in Wyoming. She received her teaching certificate from Chadron State Teachers College.
He married
Joe Rudloff in 1935 at Crawford. She taught school in Sioux and Dawes County before buying land to farm in Custer County in 1951. In 1960, the couple bought land east of Westerville in Custer County.
She worked at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow from 1961 to 1981 and moved to Broken Bow in 1981.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, John of Kearney and Robert of North Platte; one sister, Wanda of Blue Hill; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
