PETERSBURG -- Robert E. Esau, 77, of Petersburg died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Daphne Kufeldt
CENTRAL CITY -- Daphne P. Kufeldt, 69, of Central City died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Litzenberg County Hospital.
Services are pending with Wagner Funeral Home.
Loren McAlevy
BROKEN BOW -- Loren McAlevy, 55, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Fred Cram will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. McAlevy was born Feb. 11, 1945, at Mason City to Leslie Alexander and Hazel Alvina (Hendrickson) McAlevy. He lived most of his life in Custer County.
He married
Neola Craig at Grand Island. He worked in the farming and trucking industry for many years, until his health required him to retire in 1980.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Cindy (Mrs. Frank) Fritz of Randolph, Iowa, Cathy (Mrs. Sam) Lupo of Randolph and Jocen (Mrs. James) Dunham and Laura (Mrs. Chris) Rudichar, both of Aurora; one brother, David McAlevy; four sisters, Beth (Mrs. Bryan) Fisher of Wood River, Janice (Mrs. Herb) Switzer of Anselmo, Barbara Mason of Kearney and Judi (Mrs. Bob) Coons of Loveland, Colo.; and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Dennis, Gerald, Roger, Glenn, Russell and Dale; and two infant sisters.
Christine Mendenhall
HARVARD -- Christine M. Mendenhall, 91, of Harvard died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the Harvard Rest Haven.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Chapel. The Rev. Tim Wiggins will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard cemetery in Glenvil.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Harvard Rest Home.
Mrs. Mendenhall was born March 23, 1909, in Adams County to Fred C. and Gebka (Hinrichs) Ocker. She grew up in rural Adams County west of Glenvil and attended District 71 School.
She married
Walter F. Classen on April 16, 1933.
On June 11, 1948, she married
Karl Mendenhall in Central City. They moved to Grand Island where she was an aide at the Soldiers & Sailors Home until her retirement. Mr. Mendenhall died May 22, 1968.
She resided in Grand Island until 1995, when she moved to Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Survivors include one sister, Marie Enninga of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; one son, Darrel W. Classen; three sisters; and one brother.
Alyne Murphy
LINCOLN -- Alyne Murphy, 82, formerly of Anselmo, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Lincoln.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand View cemetery near Anselmo. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Murphy was born October 28, 1918, at Anselmo to Fred G. and Jennie C. (Parkison) Lindly. She grew up at Anselmo and graduated from Anselmo High School in 1937. After graduation, she lived in the Custer County and Lincoln County areas.
She married
Donald E. Wood on July 8, 1941. He passed away in 1961.
On Sept. 28, 1973, she married
John S. Murphy in Reno. They lived in California. Mr. Murphy died in 1983.
In May of 1989, she returned to Nebraska and lived on the family farm near Anselmo. She later moved to Liberty Square in Broken Bow.
She then moved to Lincoln to be near her son.
Mrs. Murphy had joined the Baptist Church at an early age and had also been a member of the Easter Star of Broken Bow.
Survivors include one son, James Wood of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; two brothers, James and Lawrence Lindly; and one sister, Wilma Switzer.
Thomas Sack
LINCOLN -- Thomas M. Sack, 48, of Lincoln died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Cartersville, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul with The Rev. Michael McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul with military rites by the Carl Mogensen American Post 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Sack was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Grand Island to Martin and Doris (Dembowski) Sack. He lived and attended schools in St. Paul into the third grade. In 1961 the family moved to Fullerton. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1970.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1971 and served in Germany until being discharged in 1974.
On May 29, 1975, he married
Deb Lindsley in Fullerton.
On April 15, 1999, he married
Diane Matlock in Grand Island.
He drove trucks for Monson Truck Lines of Britt, Iowa, KTL Truck Lines of Joplin, Mo., Becker Transfer of Hastings and Dahlsten Truck Lines of Clay Center.
At the time of his death he was driving for Deitloff Transfer of Norfolk.
He enjoyed 3-D puzzles and classic cars. He was a member of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Diane of Lincoln; one son, Shawn of St. Edward; one daughter, Tabatha (Mrs. Joel) Freeman of Wolbach; his mother of Lincoln; one grandson; three brothers, Don of Dannebrog, Ken of St. Paul and Jim of Fullerton; two sisters, Carol (Mrs. Randy) Williams of Grand Island and Anne (Mrs. Ed) Thompson of St. Paul; two stepdaughters, Bambi and Tracy Kiely, both of Enid, OK.; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Frank.
