Michael Croot Jr.
Michael C. Croot Jr., 75, of Grand Island died Friday, March 17, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Rademacher officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Watertown, S.D.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Harry Kurtenbach will lead the rosary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Leo's Catholic Church or to St. Francis Hospice.
Helen Johnson
Helen Johnson, 91, of 1908 W. 11th died Friday, March 17, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Terry Brown will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery at Wood River.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary Assembly of God Church.
Ida Obermiller
Ida H. Obermiller, 103, of Grand Island, formerly of Cairo, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery south of Cairo.
Visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Obermiller was born on Feb. 5, 1897, at Dannebrog to Soren and Jacobene (Koster) Fries. She was educated in that area.
She married
Robert Obermiller on April 18, 1917, at Lincoln. They lived for many years on his parents' farm south of Boelus until Mr. Obermiller's death on May 28, 1957. Mrs. Obermiller then moved to Cairo.
Mrs. Obermiller was active in church and community work. She was selected in 1946 as Howard County Outstanding Homemaker. She received the Ak-sar-ben Good Neighbor Award in 1977 for her community service.
She also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.
She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and Cairo Methodist Women and a charter member of the Boelus Methodist Women.
Survivors include three daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Richard) Harrison of Castro Valley, Calif., Ardyce Kirk of Albuquerque, N.M., and Irma (Mrs. George B.) Bellamy of Cairo; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Ross Price
Ross H. Price, 86, of Grand Island and formerly of Calumet City, Ill., died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Werner officiating. Further services will be in Calumet City, Ill., at Hennessy-Nowak Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in Dalton, Ill.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends through the afternoon and evening.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Island.
Lura Clausen
STROMSBURG -- Lura Ann Clausen, 92, of Stromsburg died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital in Osceola.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Kerry Relihan will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Chester Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Berry will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Maurice Cox
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Maurice Cox, 83, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Rev. Jurdan Counts officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the church and continue until service time.
Lucille Cress
HASTINGS -- Lucille Cress, 94, of Villa Grace in Hastings died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Villa Grace.
Burial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillside cemetery in North Loup. The Rev. Melanie L. Adams will officiate.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Village Garden Club.
Mrs. Cress was born on Sept. 9, 1905, in Brock to Clarence and Vena (Snodgrass) Black. She grew up in Brock and attended public schools, graduating from Brock High School.
She was a secretary for the University of Nebraska engineering department for seven years.
She married
Dale C. Cress on Aug. 12, 1929, at the First Christian Church in Lincoln. They moved to western Nebraska, where he taught school. They moved to Lexington in 1936. They moved several times to different communities in Nebraska in 1950. They then moved to Fargo, N.D., where they lived until 1962. She managed a large beauty salon. They moved to Hastings in 1962.
Mrs. Cress had been a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Church Circle and Dorcas.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Bervig of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by one son, Jerre; and three brothers.
Marjorie Ericksen
HORDVILLE -- Marjorie Ruth Ericksen, 86, of Hordville died Friday, March 17, 2000, in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville. The Rev. Charles Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. Ericksen was born on May 14, 1913, near Hordville to Clarence and Ruth (Gustafson) Jones. She graduated from Hordville High School.
She taught school in rural Hamilton County before her marriage.
She married
Carroll H. Ericksen on Aug. 25, 1934. They farmed in the Hordville area. Mr. Ericksen died on Oct. 22, 1991.
Mrs. Ericksen was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville and belonged to several of the women's groups, including the quilting group. She was a member of a Hamilton County extension club and enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, cooking and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Milton Ericksen of Fairfax Station, Va., and Merlin Ericksen of Hordville; one daughter, Janet Ericksen of Grand Island; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Sherman Jones of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.
