Richard Wiehl
Richard Wiehl, 79, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Nebraska Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Faith Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans Home. The Rev. William J. Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Wiehl was cremated.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wiehl was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Narca, Kan., to Ernest and Minnie Presnell. As a child he was adopted by Sam and Hazel (Cole) Wiehl. He lived and received his education at Phillipsburg, Kan.
He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Upon his discharge, he worked in road construction in New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. He later moved to Grand Island, where he worked for the Hall County Department of Roads. He retired 10 years ago.
He raised thoroughbred racehorses and enjoyed horse races, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include one sister, Hazel Allen of Shasta Lake City, Calif.; his caregiver, Wayne Schumacher of Grand Island; and a special friend, Donna Tagge of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy; one brother, Bert; and other brothers and sisters.
Darold Wiese
Darold D. Wiese, 68, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at St. Francis.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends from 4 to 5 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Emma Glinsmann
ASHTON -- Emma Glinsmann, 88, of Ashton died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Glinsmann was born Feb. 10, 1912, at Ashton to John and Marie (Gerken) Heins. She grew up at Ashton and attended a rural school.
She married
August Glinsmann on May 10, 1933. They farmed for many years near Ashton in Sherman County, retiring in 1968. Mr. Glinsmann died March 1988.
She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four sons, Arnold of Omaha, Harlan of Ashton, Richard of Grand Island and Gilbert of Midland, Texas; one daughter, Darlene (Mrs. John) Heuer of Grand Island; one sister, Dora Smith of Denver; one brother, Emil Heins of Hampton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and Henry and an infant sister, Anna.
'Grizzly' Sabata
ST. LIBORY -- Marvin E. "Grizzly" Sabata, 62, of St. Libory died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Sabata was born June 1, 1938, in Butler County to Joseph and Alice (Koza) Sabata. He was raised and attended schools in Butler County. He farmed with his father.
He married
Mary Patzel on Nov. 4, 1959 in Columbus. Along with family farming, he also operated heavy equipment until 1968 when he became a truck driver.
He married
Cathy Newton March 13, 1992, in Omaha. He continued driving trucks until 1995, when he quit due to ill health. They lived in the Wood River and Shelton areas before moving to St. Libory eight years ago.
Mr. Sabata enjoyed rodeos, horses and helping with horse shows and 4-H.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island and the North American Fishing Club.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy, of St. Libory; two sons, Kevin of Alda and Doug of Rising City; one daughter, Catie at home; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond of Kronburg, Lyle of Aurora, LeRoy of Garden City, Kan. and Russell of St. Edward; and one sister, Shirley (Mrs. Don) Wittulski of Hordville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Kenneth.
Donovan Gift
MIDDLETON, Wis. -- Donovan Darrell Gift, 67, of Middleton, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. J.H. Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Custer Center cemetery east of Broken Bow.
Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Jack Niemoth
Jack L. Niemoth, 42, of Grand Island, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ron Benson will officiate. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 a.m. in the chapel of the church. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
William Thomssen
William Thomssen, 95, of Grand Island, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gollaher Chapel, Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Masonic Children's home in Fremont.
Mr. Thomssen was born Jan. 13, 1906, south of Grand Island on the family homestead to William and Louise (Kruse) Thomssen. He grew up and attended school in the Grand Island area. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1925. He went on to Grand Island Baptist College, graduated in 1930, and attended the University of Ohio at Athens, Bradley University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He married
Esther D. Jensen on Dec. 28, 1931, in Wisner. The couple lived in Aurora where he taught school. He taught science at Walnut Junior High School from 1948 to 1971, while working during the summers as a civil engineer for the State of Nebraska. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1955 and he retired in 1971.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; Aurora Masonic Lodge No. 68, AF & AM; York Rite-Royal Arch Council; Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree; Tehema Shrine Temple, Hastings, Andrew Chapter 41; OES; Central Nebraska Shrine Club; retired teacher, AARP; and the National Cribbage Society. He was a board member of the Historical Society and the Commander of the Knights Templar, Grand Island in 1989.
He is a grandson of the original founders of Grand Island. His grandmother, Anna Stehr, settled in Hall County in 1857 south of what is now Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Lincoln; a daughter, Kathryn (Mrs. Eldon) Ritterbush of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister Leah (Mrs. Arvon) Jensen of Grand Island.
