Larry Sautter
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Larry L. Sautter, 52, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Scotia, died Oct. 16, 1999, at the Magnolia Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in California after a long battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverside.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, United Way or the Cornelius Koolman Scholarship Fund at University of California at Riverside.
Mr. Sautter was born on April 13, 1947, in Scotia to Dale and Ila Sautter. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Kearney State College in 1969 and a master's degree in business administration and chemistry at Colorado State University in 1973.
He was academic coordinator for the University of Nebraska computer network from 1973 to 1976. He then was assistant director of computing services at the University of Illinois. In 1981, he joined the University of California at Riverside as director of the academic computing center. In the mid-1990s, he became associate vice chancellor for computing and communications.
He served in the youth mentor program at University Heights Middle School in Riverside.
He enjoyed cars, playing tennis and visiting the mountains in Idyllwild.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; one son, Marek at home; his mother, of Kearney; his stepmother, Candy Sautter of Kearney; and three brothers, Todd, Brian and Terry Sautter, all of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Fred Terry
Fred E. Terry, 90, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in the Gollaher Chapel. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with family receiving friends throughout the day and evening.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Terry was born Oct. 31, 1910, in Meadow Grove to Frank and Anna (Kinne) Terry. He graduated from Wayne State Teachers College in 1936.
He married
Edna Hansen in December of 1938. Mrs. Hansen died in October of 1939.
He married
Marian Rose Mulvihill in January of 1941. January 18 marked their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was a teacher, superintendent of schools and coach in several northeastern Nebraska high schools before moving to Grand Island, where he taught government and history and coached track at Northwest High School. He retired in 1976.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Rose, of Grand Island; three sons, Fred Jr. of Topeka, Kan., Philip of Huntsville, Ala. and Larry of Grand Island; five daughters, Suzanne (Mrs. Willis) Luedke of Crete, Cleo (Mrs. Robert) Wright of Panama City, Fla., Mary (Mrs. David) Thor of Billings, Mont., Marcia (Mrs. Michael) Patterson of Inola, Okla. and Martha Morris of Grand Island; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark James; one granddaughter; four brothers; and three sisters.
Betty Vavak
Betty J. Vavak, 76, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Parkplace Health Care and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Cheryl Lamb will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Oncology Unit.
Darold Wiese
Darold D. Wiese, 68, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at St. Francis.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 4 to 5 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mr. Wiese was born on March 23, 1932, in Grand Island to Donald and Nora (Moeller) Wiese. He received attended District 77 School in Hall County and District 17 School in Merrick County. He worked on the family farm and has been active in agriculture his entire life.
His hobbies included reading.
Mr. Wiese was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche.
Survivors include his father of Grand Island and one sister, Marlene (Mrs. Cal) Fuehrer of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1999.
Beatrice Hyde
SARGENT -- Beatrice Hyde, 97, of Sargent died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 Monday at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove cemetery in Comstock.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Methodist Church Northeast Custer Parish.
Donald Riessland
LITCHFIELD -- Donald K. "Don" Riessland, 73, of Litchfield, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Hazard. The Revs. Jan Smutny and Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield cemetery with military rites by the Litchfield American Legion Post.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney and until service time Monday at the church. There will be a wake at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Fund or to St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.
Mr. Riessland was born Sept. 11, 1927 at Satoria to Fred and Gertrude (Ripp) Riessland. He grew up in the Amherst and Pleasanton areas and graduated from Amherst High School in 1945.
He married
Clarice Keaschall on June 1, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ravenna. The couple moved to a farm northwest of Elm Creek where they lived for three years. They then moved to a farm near Amherst for one year.
In 1955, the couple moved to a farm southwest of Litchfield where they lived for 45 years.
Mr. Riessland was a farmer and a dairyman. He also worked as a mechanic at Eaton's Corporation in Kearney from 1981 until he retired in 1992.
He enjoyed traveling, making antique ornamental yard work, riding his mule in parades and on trail rides and going to antique and garage sales. He also liked to raise dogs and exotic animals.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert J. of Litchfield and Bryce of Pleasanton; two daughters, Sheila (Mrs. Gary) Baird of Grand Island and Karen Bright of Arvada, Colo.; his mother, Gertrude Riessland-Davis of Kearney; three brothers, Bob of Grand Island and Dale and Arthur "Swede" of Amherst; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, a brother and a sister.
