Darrell Gift
MIDDLETON, Wis. -- Donovan Darrell Gift, 67, of Middleton, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Middleton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. J.H. Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Custer Center cemetery west of Broken Bow with military rites.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.
Mr. Gift was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Arnold to Donovan Lewis and Margaret Jane (Schroeder) Gift. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1951. Soon after he went to work in Omaha.
On Sept. 17, 1956, he was inducted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged two years later. He spent some time in Omaha and was then transferred to Wisconsin by the Rayovac Company.
After leaving Rayovac, he owned and operated a TV repair business. He also contracted several companies to build electronic boards.
Mr. Gift enjoyed hunting, science fiction books and movies.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two aunts, Fern (Mrs. Cameron) Hall of Arnold and Gayle Godsey of Council Bluffs, Iowa and one uncle, Donald Schroeder of Malvern, Iowa.
Emma Glinsmann
ASHTON-- Emma K. Glinsmann, 88, of Ashton died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Etta Popple
AXTELL-- Etta Popple, 85, of Axtell died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell. The Rev. Helmut Yurk will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Freeland-Layton Funeral Home in Axtell.
A memorial fund is suggested in her name.
Mrs. Popple was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Kearney County to Victor and Maude (Cederburg) Soderquist. She grew up in the Axtell area and graduated from Axtell High School in 1933.
She married
William "Bill" Popple on Oct. 10, 1933. They lived in the Axtell area until moving to Naper in 1946. They ranched there until they returned to Axtell in 1952. The couple farmed and raised black angus cattle. They retired in 1980 and moved into Axtell in 1985. Mr. Popple died in 1997.
Mrs. Popple was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Axtell Women's Club. She had been a Cub Scout Leader, and volunteered at the Axtell Library.
Her hobbies included fancy work for her friends and family, and sports.
Survivors include five sons, Max of Axtell, Frank of Gothenburg, Brent of Axtell, Brian of Holdrege and Ed of Alma; five daughters, Peggy (Mrs. Carl) Soneson of Elba, Colleen (Mrs. Herb) Warnken of Hildreth, Susan (Mrs. Don) Roads of Axtell, Sandra (Mrs. Jerry) Johnson of Minden and Vicki Erickson of Lincoln; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willard Soderquist of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Mike and Brad; one grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.
Marvin Sabata
ST. LIBORY - Marvin "Grizzly" Sabata, 62, of St. Libory, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Carohl will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
John 'Jack' McCloud
FAULKTON, S.D.-- John 'Jack' McCloud, 75, of Faulkton, S.D., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton, S.D. The Rev. Randy Phillips and Lector Carlos Sunne will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Thomas cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Luce Funeral Home and until service time at the church. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Mr. McCloud was born Jan. 15, 1926, at Faulkton, S.D., to Jack and Katherine (Wernsman) McCloud. He grew up on a farm near Seneca, S.D. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and was discharged in January 1946.
He married
Gerri Birrenkott on Nov. 3, 1948, in Faulkton. They lived on a farm near Cresbard and moved to Faulkton in 1987.
He was a member of the Faulkton Knights of Columbus, Past Commander of Foncannon Post #102 of the American Legion, and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3179.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gene of Grand Island, Jeff of Cresbard, S.D., and John of Farmington, Minn.; three daughters, Georgia (Mrs. Ken) Mitchell of Eagan, Minn., Janice McCloud of Mitchell, S.D., and JoAnn (Mrs. Terry) Aesoph of Highmore, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; six brothers, Speed, Stanley, Wade, Lee, Dick and Gary McCloud; and one sister, Shirley Bounds.
He was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister.
Darlene Cummins
Darlene I. Cummins, 74, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. John D. Russell will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. Cummins was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Willard Pauly
Willard Wayne "Bill" Pauly, 66, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home with the Rev. George Wheat officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
