Wayne Grimes
Wayne A. Grimes, 90, formerly of Chadron, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Chadron with the Rev. Dan Williams officiating.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the humane society in Chadron or Grand Island.
Mr. Grimes was born on Oct. 21, 1910, in Lusk, Wyo., to Charles and Pearl (Baird) Grimes.
He married
Evalyn L. Holtom on July 5, 1934, in Estes Park, Colo. He lived in Chadron most of his life. He and his wife were married
for 62 years. She died in 1996. He moved to Grand Island in 1998 to live with family and had lived at Wedgewood Care Center for the past year.
He retired from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in 1975 after 47 years of service. He was instrumental in starting the Chadron Credit Union and served as its first secretary-treasurer for many years.
He was very active in establishing and operating the Chadron Senior Center and was the first treasurer of the 60 Plus Club. He frequently served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and fund-raising pancake feeds for the senior center. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Chadron and served many years as its treasurer.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Grimes of Aurora, Colo., and James Grimes of Grand Island; one daughter, Margie Atwood of Lompoc, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mervyn Monson Sr.
Mervyn Harold Monson Sr., 62, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dominic Pecoraro officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
Mr. Monson was born on Nov. 15, 1938, at Sutton to Harold and Vera (Ulmer) Monson. He grew up and was educated in Sutton, graduating from high school in 1956.
He helped his father on the farm until his marriage to Charlotte Wilson on Sept. 9, 1961, at Aurora. He was employed on a farm near Geneva for two years and then moved to Grand Island, where he worked for Super Sweet Feed Co. and ConAgra for 11 years and then Luzenac America for 26 years.
He was a member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed watching football, playing horseshoes, camping, fishing and playing pool.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mervyn H. Monson Jr. of Grand Island; a daughter, Jodi Monson of Grand Island; three grandsons; and his mother, of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his father and three infant sisters.
Dorothy Taylor
Dorothy Taylor, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Albion, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion with the Revs. Frank Baumert and Tom Ward officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion with a 7 p.m. rosary.
Lawrence Clark
CENTRAL CITY -- Lawrence M. Clark, 80, of Central City died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Litzenberg Long-term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Brad Rick officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City and Litzenberg Long-term Care in Central City.
Mr. Clark was born on July 14, 1920, at Tilden to Lyman M. and Emma (Dahms) Clark. He lived in Tilden and moved to Central City when he was 12. He then began to work in his father's bakery, which was called Clark's Bakery.
He married
Gloria A. Boom on June 16, 1945, in Grand Island. They took over Clark's Bakery after the death of Mr. Clark's father. Mr. Clark retired in 1975.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Valley View and the Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, cooking and trips to Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one half sister, Mildred Abrahamson.
Wayne Cross
KEARNEY -- Wayne H. Cross, 51, of Kearney died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Kearney. The Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Cross was born on May 14, 1949, in Dunning to Floyd and Louise (Schneller) Cross. He lived in the Kearney area for most of his life and attended Kearney public schools. He attended the Denver Automotive Institute for one year and worked as an auto painter for Turner Body Shop in Kearney for several years.
He married
Loreen "Lori" Rust on Feb. 3, 1967, in Smith Center, Kan.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Mid-Nebraska Race Drivers Association. He taught karate and held a third-degree black belt. He enjoyed stock car racing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Wendall of Kearney and Wade and Wayne, both of Grand Island; two brothers, Marvin and Merlin of Kearney; and one sister, Phyliss of Halsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Inez Hutchinson
BURWELL -- Inez Hutchinson, 90, of Burwell, formerly of Albion, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Clinton Lyons
CENTRAL CITY -- Clinton H. Lyons, 71, of Central City died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Dean Entrekin officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
