Clarence Marsh
ANSLEY -- Clarence L. Marsh, 85, of Ansley died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Ansley. Burial will be in Douglas Grove cemetery in Comstock.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent and from noon to service time Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Leonard McCarty
KEARNEY -- Leonard McCarty, 68, of Kearney died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Mount Carmel Care Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 752, American Legion Post 52 and the Kearney National Guard unit.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. McCarty was born on Oct. 28, 1932, in Elk City, Kan., to Elmer and Vada (Wilke) McCarty. He grew up in Elk City and Independence, Kan., where he graduated from high school. He entered the Army on June 12, 1953.
He married
Barbara Jean Turnell on Dec. 24, 1964, in Minden. They lived in Hays, Kan., for a year before moving to Kearney in 1965. He worked in construction for 11 years. He worked for Caldwell Manufacturing for 15 years, beginning in 1971. He worked at the turkey plant in Gibbon for five years before retiring.
He enjoyed gardening, football and wrestling. He was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carla Williams of Sargent; three grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Eckles and Audrey Handy, both of Sacramento, Calif.; and one brother, Virgil of Independence, Kan.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Elmer Baker
HOLDREGE -- Elmer P. Baker of Holdrege died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Alvin Erb
SHICKLEY -- Alvin J. Erb, 68, of Shickley died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Geneva.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Salem Mennonite Church in rural Shickley with the Rev. Michael Row officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery in rural Shickley.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three sons, Merle and Bill, both of Shickley and Jerry of Grand Island; five grandchildren; three brothers, Merlin of Shickley, Robert of Hesston, Kan. and Virgil of Henderson; and four sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Samuel) Oswald of Oakland, Norma (Mrs. James) Troyer and Gladys (Mrs. Lester) Troyer, both of West Point and Wilma Troyer of Beemer.
'Dan' Duryee
CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Darrell W. "Dan" Duryee, 71, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died of cancer Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Schrader Funeral Home Chapel in Cheyenne with the Rev. Billy Minder officiating. Burial will be in Beth El Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
Mr. Duryee was born on Aug. 18, 1929, in Grand Island to Alton and Gwendolyn Duryee.
He began his career as a truck driver for Pete Peterson Trucking Co. in Grand Island in 1948. He then worked for P.I.E. as an over-the-road driver, retiring in 1991 after 35 years of service. He was awarded the outstanding driving record for completing 3 million miles without an accident. He was the courtesy van driver for the Plains Hotel for seven years.
He married
Shirley Guy on Aug. 17, 1984, in Cheyenne.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 257 and the Teamsters Union.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marvin Duryee of Grand Island and William J. Hardisky and Andrew G. Hardisky, both of Cheyenne; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Jeff) Helleberg and Pat (Mrs. Fred) Hotz, both of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Levona Glur
SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Levona L. Glur, 78, of Springdale, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with the Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Mrs. Glur was born on Nov. 23, 1922, in Grand Island to Ernest L. and Lola Mae Bootman-Walker.
She married
Arthur A. Glur on July 6, 1946, in Mankato, Kan. Mr. Glur died on Jan. 12, 1986. Mrs. Glur worked at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville for 14 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springdale and the House of Worship in Hindsville.
Survivors include three sons, Werner Glur and Brad Glur, both of Springdale, and Jeff Glur of Lowell, Ark.; four daughters, Coleen (Mrs. Dan) Moore of Springdale, Vonna (Mrs. Tom) Grooman of Nebraska City, Cindy (Mrs. Ed) Buchholz of Cave Springs, Ark., and Gail (Mrs. Mark) Gannaway of Tontitown, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Lela Runge of Grand Island; and one brother, Ed Walker of Grand Island.
Emma Labart
ABILENE, Kan. -- Emma M. Labart, 80, of Abilene, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Salina Regional Health Center.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene with the Rev. Gerald Weeks officiating. Inurnment will be in the Fort Riley Post Cemetery.
Mrs. Labart was born on July 29, 1920, at Sutton to Henry C. and Anna (Heinz) Scheierman. She attended Sutton schools and secretarial school in California.
She married
Dorsey M. Labart on Sept. 30, 1945. He was in the military, and they traveled extensively with the service. After he retired, they lived in Nebraska until moving to Abilene. Mr. Labart died on June 22, 1997.
Survivors include three brothers, Herman Scheierman of Clay Center, Carl Scheierman of Sutton and Robert Scheierman of St. Joseph, Mo.; and one sister, Dorothy Biely of Borden, Ind.
She was preceded in death by two infant brothers and one sister.
