Carolyn Ann Rothwell
MONUMENT, Colo. -- Carolyn Ann Rothwell, 58, of Monument, Colo., a former Grand Island resident, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999.
Mrs. Rothwell was born on Sept. 13, 1941, in Wisner to Conrad and Alida Budde. She moved with her family to Grand Island in 1946. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1959 and Hastings College four years later.
Survivors include a brother, Gene Budde of Cairo.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Helen L. Vogt
BETTENDORF, Iowa -- Helen L. Vogt, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Belgrade, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Gary Oliver will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until service time.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Vogt was born Jan. 15, 1909, at Belgrade to Benjamin and Mayme (Garvin) Ainlay. She grew up in Belgrade and graduated from Belgrade High School in 1926.
On Dec. 3, 1927, she married
Merle Vogt at Woodbine, Iowa. She was employed in civil service for more than 50 years. She served as a supervisor of nuclear weapons in Rock Island Arsenal. She retired in 1996.
Survivors include one son, Tomas of Bartleville, Okla.; one daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Richard) Webster of Wood River; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Merle Jr.; one daughter, Suzanne Gross; one brother, Benjamin; four sisters, Lucille McKillip, Marguerite Ainley, Dorothy Whitehead and Eleanor Moore; and one granddaughter, Roseanne Nichols.
Jim Tuma
James T. "Jim" Tuma, 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center in Grand Island.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Tuma was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Elba to Jake and Mary Tuma. He attended District 52 school in Farwell. He married
Lena M. Kay on August 21, 1939, in Grand Island, after which he farmed for a few years in the southwestern Hall County area. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. He later was employed as a carpenter for Sothman Lumber Co. for 12 years until his retirement in 1963 due to failing health.
He was a member of the Protestant faith.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, outdoors, flowers, Nebraska football and listening to polkas and Bohemian music. He also enjoyed saving and collecting items and spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time he would entertain the residents at Lakeview with music when he entered the nursing home.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Tuma of Grand Island; two daughters, Florence (Mrs. Stanley) Grudzinski of St. Libory and Delores (Mrs. Norm) Bulin of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Tuma of Farwell; and five sisters, Clara Pawlowski of Farwell, Gustie Albers of Spokane, Wash., Bessie Senseney of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Josephine Brahatcek and Caroline Vincik, both of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, four brothers and five sisters.
Dorothy Wagner-Wells
Dorothy M. Wagner-Wells, 95, of , Grand Island died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grand Island City cemetery with the Rev. Jim Keyser officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Lakeview Nursing Center.
Mrs. Wells was born Jan. 15, 1906, in Wolbach to Gus and Inez (Lee) Wagner. She grew up on the family farm in the rural Chapman area. She received her education at the District 42 rural school and graduated from Chapman High School.
On June 22, 1931, she married
Robert F. Wells in Lincoln. The couple operated a service station in Palmer until 1943, when Mr. Wells entered the U.S. Army. After Mr. Wells was discharged from the Army, they lived in Grand Island. She was employed by Dr. Clayton Moore and Dr. Doug Camplin as a dental assistant until she retired. The couple moved to Kuesters Lake in 1952. Mr. Wells died in 1984, and she continued to live at Kuesters Lake until two years ago when her failing health required nursing home care.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles and watching football.
Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Burke Ruge of Omaha and Emma Rembolt of Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Herbert Wagner; three sisters, Margaret Buersch, Augusta Tyler and Esther Taylor; and an infant sister, Maude Effie Wagner.
Dorothy Prososki
CENTRAL CITY -- Dorothy Prososki, 81, of Central City died Friday, March 23, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City, with the Rev. Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery at Clarks.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a scripture service starting at 7 p.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Prososki was born February 6, 1920, to Joseph and Valeria (Podraza) Kiolbasa in Clarks, where she grew up. She graduated from Clarks High School in 1937.
On Aug. 12, 1942, she married
Leo J. Prososki in Clarks. The couple lived in rural Clarks until 1982, when they moved to Carlsbad, N.M., for 10 years. In 1993 they moved back to Central City.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City, St. Peter's Altar Society in Clarks, the Altar Society of St. Edward's in Carlsbad, N.M., and St. Michael's Altar Society in Central City.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, baking cookies and breads and talking about her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; one son, John Prososki of Clarks; four daughters, Alice Prososki of St. Rose, La., Janice Schell of Milledgeville, Ill., Mary (Mrs. John B. Sr.) Sims of Grand Island and Lucille (Mrs. Ronald) Hinrichs of Malcolm; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Jarecki of Columbus, Esther Hornback of Frankfort, Ill., and Lorraine Siemek of Omaha; three step-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Alexander; and three sisters, Francis Kiolbasa, Clara Ksiazek and Monica Dixon.
Gertrude Wise
GIBBON -- Gertrude Wise, 101, of Gibbon, formerly of Shelton, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.
Memorial graveside services will be held Memorial Day weekend at the Shelton cemetery by the family. Exact day and time will be announced later.
Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wise was born in Lexington, where she grew up and attended school. She later moved to Grand Island, where she met and married
Raymond O'Conner in 1918.
Later, she moved to California, where she married
Raymond "Red" Wise. They lived in the San Francisco area for about 40 years.
After Mr. Wise's death, she moved back to Shelton in the late 1970s, where she had lived since. She moved to the Gibbon Good Samaritan Center in October 2000, due to ill health.
Survivors include five grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother; one sister; three daughters, Dorothy McKeever, Doris Britt and Edna Dally; and one great-granddaughter.
