Samantha Spahr
Samantha L. Spahr, infant daughter of Roger Spahr Jr. and Denise L. Jones of Grand Island, died at birth Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her parents; two stepbrothers, Kenneth Jones at home and Roger Spahr III of Grand Island; one stepsister, Wendy Spahr of Jerico Springs, Mo.; grandparents, Almira Michel of Grand Island, Verda Spahr of Springfield, Mo., and Roger Spahr Sr. of Canton, Ohio; and a great-grandfather, Gerald Spahr of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by an infant sibling, Baby Lynn; a grandfather, William Michel; and great-grandparents, William and Lucy Michel, John and Marie Irwin, Jack and Viriginia Lillibridge and Lucille Spahr.
Iris Mannel
BROKEN BOW -- Iris L. Mannel, 87, of Broken Bow died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Chapel. A Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Mannel was born Oct. 1, 1913, at Milburn to Mike and Edna (Leap) Loughran. She grew up in the Milburn area and graduated from Milburn High School.
She married
Emil T. "Mac" Mannel on May 7, 1934, at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo. They farmed for 41 years on the Mannel home place near Victoria Springs east of Anselmo in Custer County. In 1974, they retired from farming and moved to Broken Bow. She worked at Broken Bow Floral for a short time. Mr. Mannel died April 15, 1995.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow and the Altar Society.
Survivors include one son, Bill of Anselmo; two daughters, Sharron (Mrs. Mike) Shea of Pekin, Ill., and Deloris (Mrs. Bill) Foster of Gibbon; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Tom Loughran of Anselmo.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Pohlreich and Ruth Smith.
Marjorie Disney
BEATRICE -- Marjorie M. Disney, 89, of Beatrice, formerly of Alexandria, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Parkview Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the DeWitt United Methodist Church in DeWitt. The Rev. Sharon Pajak will officiate.
A family lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church, and a family prayer service will be at 12:45 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Carleton Community cemetery in Carleton.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice and after 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Disney was born July 21, 1911, at Odell. She lived in the Odell and Carleton areas. She graduated from high school in Hollenberg, Kan.
She married
Benjamin L. Disney on Oct. 12, 1929, in Washington, Kan. She lived in Alexandria from 1963 until they moved to Beatrice in 1992.
She was a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church in DeWitt and had been a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the Carleton Methodist Church in Carleton.
She enjoyed playing cards, word puzzles and all kinds of handwork.
Survivors include two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. Ron) Simoneau of Alexandria and Arlene (Mrs. Don) Smith of DeWitt; six sons, Bud of Golden, Colo., Donald of Carleton, Lyle of Lincoln, William of Alexandria, Ronald of Grand Island and LeRoy of Longmont, Colo.; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Schonewise and Lucille Diekmann, both of Beatrice.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; a son, Norman in 1987; a brother, Tom Rosecrans; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
Dr. Donald Herzog
LINCOLN -- Dr. Donald L. Herzog, 77, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home Chapel in Lincoln. The Revs. Herb Wenz and George Robie will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Wyuka cemetery Mausoleum in Lincoln.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to service time Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Dentistry Scholarship Fund No. 4555 or Shrine Children's Hospitals.
Dr. Herzog was a retired dentist and United States Air Force veteran with service during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, graduated from UNL College of Dentistry, was past president of the Nebraska Dental Association and was organist for International College of Dentists for 22 years.
He was elected to the degree of master of the International College of Dentists in 1992, taught at UNL College of Dentistry and received an Outstanding Service Award from UNL College of Dentistry.
Mr. Herzog was elected to UNL College of Dentistry Hall of Fame in 1985, was a life member of American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and was also a member of WSI, Liberty Lodge No. 300 A.F. and A.M. Lincoln, Scottish Rite Valley of Lincoln, York Rite and Sesostris Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Georgia Diane (Mrs. Richard) Hanwell of Lincoln and Mary Ruth (Mrs. Thomas John) Lemke of Littleton, Colo.; one son, Donald D. of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Wilbur Kuhl
LOUP CITY -- Wilbur Kuhl, 80, of Loup City died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his home in Loup City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. The Rev. Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post No. 48.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Caroline McDermott
OMAHA -- M. Caroline McDermott, 89, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Papillion Manor in Papillion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Revs. Mike McDermott, Don Larmore and John Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mrs. McDermott was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Macon County, Ala., to Benjamin and Mattie Lou (Taylor) Knowles. She grew up in Tuskegee, Ala., and was educated in Tuskeegee, Ala., Huntington College, St. Margaret's School of Nursing and Lying Inn Hospital at the University of Chicago. She worked in obstetrics in Alabama and North Carolina.
She married
Harold P. McDermott on July 17, 1946, at Montgomery, Ala. They lived in Grand Island where she worked for St. Francis Hospital and taught obstetrics and nursing. She retired in 1977, and they continued to live in Grand Island. Mr. McDermott died in 1995. She moved to Omaha in 1996.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Union Pacific Oldtimers and the quilters at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn "Kit" Murrin of Omaha; two sons, William B. "Bill" of North Platte and Timothy R. of Bozeman, Mont.; seven grandchildren and a sister, Doris Morgan of Dothan, Ala.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and three grandchildren.
