Lillie Heaps
TENNESSEE -- Lillie Heaps, 79, of Tennessee, formerly of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Tennessee.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Mrs. Heaps was born Nov. 30, 1920, at Custer County to Harry and Sarah (Smith) Govier. She attended country school and Broken Bow High School.
She married
Donald B. Heaps on Aug. 26, 1939, in Taylor. The couple moved to Broken Bow and spent most of their married
lives there. Mrs. Heaps worked at Broken Bow Laundry for many years. She later worked at Becton Dickinson until retirement. Mr. Heaps died on Feb. 4, 1973.
Mrs. Heaps was a member of First Christian Church in Broken Bow. She was a past member of the Broken Bow B.P.O.E. Does.
She enjoyed bowling, going on bus tours and country-western music.
Survivors include two sons, Charles "Dick" Heaps of Smyrna, Tenn. and Donald G. Heaps of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Larry; one grandson; two brothers, Ed and Tom; and two sisters, Frances and Lorena.
Edward Longsine
BEAVER CITY -- Edward M. "E.M." Longsine, 75, of Beaver City died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000 in Lincoln.
Mr. Longsine was cremated. There was will be no service and no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family. Aspen Mortuary of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Longsine was a rancher.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; four sons, Lonnie and Brett, both of Lincoln, Gregg of Lenexa, Kan., Marc of Edison; and four daughters, Carol Sible and Vicki Longsine, both of Lincoln, Roxy Long of Beaver City and Julie Benson, North Loup; and nine grandchildren.
Helen Kauk
Helen Margaret Kauk, 75, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. C. Roger Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Further visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Kauk was born on Jan. 2, 1925, on a farm near Harvard to Richard and Margaret (Weikum) Trautman.
She was raised near Harvard and attended rural school near Harvard and then Sutton High School where she graduated in 1942. She then taught school near Harvard for a couple of years.
She married
Morris Kauk on April 16, 1944, in Harvard. The couple first farmed north of Saronville.
After he was discharged from the Army, the couple farmed near Sutton. In 1967 they moved to the Farwell area and continued farming. She was very active in helping on the farm.
They retired in 1986 and then moved to Grand Island where they lived with their daughter, Betty Jo.
Her hobbies were cross-stitching, gardening, flowers, playing cards, antiques and taking pictures. She also enjoyed attending horse shows with her daughter, Barb, rodeos, and working with the Special Olympics in Grand Island. She was also active in volunteering in her church.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Platt-Duetsche of Grand Island and a Farwell women's card club.
Survivors include four sons, Melvin of Lincoln, Russell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Randy of Farwell and Howard of Holdrege; four daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Ray) Hurt and Bonnie (Mrs. Tim) Kosmicki, both of Dannebrog, Betty Jo Kauk of Grand Island and Barb (Mrs. Allan) Simmons Jr. of Boelus; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 25, 1998; one brother, Otto; and one infant sister, Hannah.
Gail Benson
ORD -- Gail R. Benson, 65, of Ord, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at his home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at Rose Hills cemetery at Whittier, Calif.
Visitation will be prior to service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Yolanda Daake
MERNA -- Yolanda Daake, 40, of Merna, died of cancer Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna. The Rev. Leon Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Daake was born June 20, 1959, at Lexington to Harold and Eileen (Brand) Debban. She attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Kearney High School in 1977.
On Nov. 4, 1978, she married
Leonard J. Daake in Kearney and they have lived in the Merna area since that time.
Mrs. Daake was active in church and community and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merna, the Merna Area Promoters and AAL. She was branch manager of the Nebraska State Bank at Merna.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Sadie Daake of Merna; one son, Ross Daake of Merna; her parents, Harold and Eileen Debban of Kearney; a sister, Kendra (Mrs. David) Wiebe of Lincoln; a brother, Paul Debban of Snellville, Ga.; and a grandmother, LaVilla Brand of Elwood.
Lamont Kimble
HASTINGS -- Lamont Kimble, 86, of Hastings died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Ken West will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kimble was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Cedar Bluffs to Frank and Mary (Hawkins) Kimble. He grew up in the Fullerton and Central City areas attending rural schools. He then lived in Fremont and played the saxophone in various bands including one featuring Lawrence Welk.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for two years.
After the service, he moved to Decatur, Ill. where he worked as a carpenter contractor for 15 years.
He married
Ruby Gober on March 3, 1984. They lived in Central City and Grand Island. In 1994, they moved to Hastings.
He was a member of the V.F.W. in Hastings. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Harold of Greeley, Colo.; and one sister, Theresa May of Schuyler.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
