Velda Christensen
Velda E. Christensen, 77, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Wolbach Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Christensen was born on July 30, 1922, on a farm east of Wolbach to Lloyd and Bessie (Elliott) Wieser. She grew up on the family farm and was educated in Wolbach.
She married
Marvin Christensen on Sept. 12, 1942, in St. Paul. The couple farmed near Wolbach. They moved to St. Paul in 1979. Mr. Christensen died in 1984. Mrs. Christensen moved to Grand Island in 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Lana (Mrs. Leo) Schwieger of Grand Island and Dila Smith of Butte; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Loyd Wieser of San Benito, Texas, and Wayne Wieser of Shelton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Goehring; and two brothers, Melvin Wieser and Darwin Wieser.
'Ruby' Craft
Billy "Ruby" A. Craft, 64, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Craft was born on March 25, 1935, at Grand Island to Clarence E. "Bill" and Wilhelmina "Becky" (Becker) Donnelly. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1953.
She was married
in 1956 in Amarillo, Texas. She worked at the Twin Rivers Egg Candling Plant, Model Laundry and as an assistant cook at the Ritz Supper Club. She then worked as a child-care provider until her health failed.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and had an ancestor who came to America on the Mayflower.
Survivors include one daughter, LuShelle Fletcher of Grand Island; and two half brothers, Milton and Jack Donnelly of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Becky and Andy Westpalen; and an infant sister, Janice Donnelly.
Elma Scott
Services for Elma May Scott, 97, of Grand Island were on Saturday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Gillette officiated.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center.
Mrs. Scott was born on Feb. 25, 1902, at Hoskins to Calvin and Martha Haddix. She attended school in Mason City and Cairo.
She married
Ray Scott on April 22, 1921, in Hastings.
Terry Hollibaugh
EDDYVILLE -- Terry Allen Hollibaugh, 17, of Eddyville died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at his home after a long-term illness.
Graveside services were on Monday at Park Valley cemetery in Eddyville. The Rev. Dale Coates officiated.
Memorials are suggested to the Sumner Rescue Unit.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home of Lexington was in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1981, at Lexington to Joe and Vicky (Ogden) Hollibaugh.
He was a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church. He liked to hunt, fish and ride horses.
Survivors include his parents, of Eddyville; his grandparents, Harold and Frances Ogden of Ord and Mildred Rogers Hollibaugh of Eddyville; and great-grandmother, Mildred Rogers of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dean; and great-grandparents.
James Main
FULLERTON -- James E. Main, 67, of Fullerton died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Litzenberg Hospital Long-Term Care in Central City.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Lawn cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mr. Main was born on July 2, 1932, at Arnold to Jesse and Marie (Wilcher) Main. He attended Harrison Elementary School in Council Bluffs and then moved to Fullerton and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1951.
He worked in the printing trade for 32 years. He also worked in manufacturing and construction for five years.
He was a history buff and dog lover.
Survivors include one sister, Marion Bryson of Tucson, Ariz.; and his mother, of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, William; and a sister, Margaret Main.
Lila Nichols
DONIPHAN -- Lila Nichols, 69, of Doniphan died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Arrangements are pending at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Philip Evers
GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- Philip Neil Evers, 65, of Garden Grove, Calif., formerly of St. Libory, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Polycarp's Catholic Church in Stanton. Burial will be at sea.
Rosary and vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dimond and Sons Mettler Mortuary in Garden Grove.
Memorials are suggested to Right to Life at the Life Center.
Mr. Evers was born on Sept. 25, 1933, to William Swoboda and Marie Evers. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked as a correctional officer at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.
He married
Mary Jo Sliney in 1957 and attended Idaho State University. He moved to Garden Grove, Calif., in 1961 to enter the trucking business with his uncles.
He was a member of St. Polycarp's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael; two daughters, Jeanne Besaw and Julianne Dowis; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Doug and David Mildenstein.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a granddaughter.
