Diane Zimmerman
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Diane M. Zimmerman, 63, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, May 31, 1999, in Colorado.
Services were Thursday at Blunt Mortuary Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo. Burial was in Fort Logan National cemetery at Denver.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born June 1, 1935, in California. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1953. She worked for Bayard Paine Attorney prior to moving to Denver.
She married
Jordan Zimmerman on April 25, 1964. Mrs. Zimmerman was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dekker of Aurora, Colo; two daughters, Maria Freymuth and Susan Zimmerman, both of Colorado Springs; her mother, Esther Rogers of Wood River; and two brothers, Larry Rogers of Grand Island and David Rogers of Hayden Lake, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Ella Moore
Ella Marie Moore, 89, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or at the family's choice.
Mrs. Moore was born Feb. 5, 1912, at Chapman to Fred Sr. and Marie (Schroeder) Harrie. She attended school in Chapman and Grand Island.
She married
Archie "Pete" Moore on Dec. 20, 1945, at North Platte. She worked as a medical assistant and receptionist at St. Francis Hospital and then for Dr. William McGrath. She retired in 1965.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the B.P.O. Does and the Liederkranz.
Survivors include one sister, Irene Wagner of Sacramento, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers, Henry, Fred, Irvin, Walter, Myron and Alvin Harrie; and three sisters, Leona Harrie, Elvira Dietz and Lorraine Harrie.
'Brownie' Davis
PALMER -- Wallace "Brownie" Davis, 76, of Palmer died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Elmer Galusha
CENTRAL CITY -- Elmer E. Galusha, 89, a lifelong resident of Central City, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Central City Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Galusha was born Aug. 4, 1911, in Central City to David and Grace (Stull) Galusha. He graduated from Central City High School in 1931.
He married
Violet Sawyers on Feb. 3, 1932, at Central City. He opened the Community Sale Barn in 1931. It was originally located north of Central City, then west of Central City, and has been at its present location for the last 65 years. He learned the art of auctioneering from A.W. Thompson and conducted his first sale at the age of 17. He enjoyed working the sales and being with the people.
He also owned and operated Galusha Realty and the Community Service Station located on the Ormsby Road by the sale barn. He turned over most of the operation of the sale barn to his children in 1977, but continued working with them. He had opened every sale until his health failed in the early 1990s.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Central City. He had been selected for Who's Who in the American Association of Auctioneers and was an announcer for Push Ball Derbys, but his first love was his sale work and people. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, doing the cooking while camping, hunting and his house dogs.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Betty Jean (Mrs. Dwaine) Nelson of Central City; two sons, Richard Galusha and Harry Galusha, both of Central City; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Milton Galusha and two great-grandsons.
Leonard Kozeal
BURWELL -- Leonard A. Kozeal, 90, of Burwell, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus.
Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kozeal was born Nov. 28, 1910, in a sod house in Garfield County to Joseph and Mary (Bartusiak) Kozeal.
He married
Elizabeth Franssen on May 23, 1935, in Burwell. They farmed and ranched their entire life in the Burwell area. She died Dec. 4, 1993.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Parish, Lion's Club, Burwell Chamber of Commerce and was a charter member of the Ord Elks Club.
He worked at the sale barn and as a part of the special police force for the Burwell rodeo for several years. He enjoyed baseball and even coached Legion baseball.
Survivors include two sons, Mick of Sargent and Randy of Burwell; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Kristine Stafford of North Platte, Margaret (Mrs. Max) Bentley of Ord, Martha Kozeal and Kathryn (Mrs. Al) Stani, both of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth LaRue Vevoda; three sisters; and three brothers.
Otta Dierberger
MILFORD -- Otta Dierberger, 91, of Milford, formerly of North Loup, died Sunday, March, 11, 2001, at the Crestview Care Center in Milford.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Helen Mae Hughes-Hartonczyk
TRENTON, N.J. -- Helen Mae Hughes-Hartonczyk, 85, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
There will be no services. Her body was cremated and the cremains will be buried at a later date in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Boys and Girls Town in Omaha.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Hughes-Hartonczyk was born Dec. 11, 1915, in Hazard County to Aaron and Nellie (Brewer) Smith. She was raised on a farm northeast of Litchfield. She attended District 65 School at Clear Creek and Litchfield High School.
She married
Fritz Hughes in 1934. They lived in Grand Island. Mr. Hughes died in 1944.
She married
Michael Hartonczyk in 1946 and moved to Trenton, N.J. He died in 1985 and she moved back to Grand Island in 1987. She later returned to Trenton.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald Hughes and Michael Hartonczyk, both of Trenton, and William Hartonczyk of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Goff of Silver City, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters; five sisters; and three brothers.
