George Young
ALBION -- George Lloyd Young, 73, of Albion, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the University Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Sydow will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Young was born Feb. 18, 1928, on the family farmstead southwest of Albion to Lloyd and Ruth (Hutchinson) Young. He attended Boone County District No. 81 for elementary school and graduated from Albion High School in 1946.
He married
Muriel Peterson Jahde on Aug. 29, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. They lived and farmed on the Young family farmstead until they retired from farming and moved to an acreage south of Albion in 1984.
In 1994, they moved into Albion. Since the fall of 1990 he has worked for Mel and Ron Levander at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
He enjoyed many social activities, including dancing, golfing, reading, traveling, cars and especially spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, where he served on the church council. He was a member of Kiwanis club and served on the Albion Public School board for 12 years. He was currently serving on the Harmony Homes board and the Boone County Senior Center board.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Julie (Mrs. Leo) Getzfred of Hastings; three sons, David of Camanche, Iowa, Douglas of Albion and Joel of Columbus; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Celeste Young; and a step-grandchild, Brian Vicks.
Martha Zulkoski
LOUP CITY -- Martha Joan Zulkoski, 87, of Loup City died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Cathedral Catholic Church building fund.
Mrs. Zulkoski was born May 23, 1913, in Loup City to Anton and Polly (Kowalski) Spotanski. She grew up and attended school in Loup City.
She married
Edwin Zulkoski on Nov. 22, 1932, at St. Libory. They farmed near Albion and in 1959, moved to Kearney where she worked at Baldwin Manufacturing Co. for 13 years. In 1973, the couple retired and moved to Grand Island. He died Feb. 4, 1986.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar Society.
Survivors include three sisters, Helen Celmer of Grand Island, Nora Ueckert of Nebraska and Jean Gregory of Loup City.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Clarence Spotanski; and two sisters, Tillie Bartunek and Florence Goc.
Bernice Mayer
COON RAPIDS, MINN. -- Bernice D. Mayer, 61, of Coon Rapids, Minn., formerly of Aberdeen, S.D., and Grand Island, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home in Aberdeen. The Rev. Donna Smith will officiate. A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mayer was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Hillsview, S.D., to Emil and Christina (Gramm) Lehr. She attended school in Hillsview. She moved with her family to Aberdeen.
She married
Leonard A. Mayer on June 17, 1961, at Aberdeen. They lived in Aberdeen before moving to Grand Island. He died in Grand Island on March 8, 1995. She eventually moved to Coon Rapids, where she remained until the time of her death.
She enjoyed flowers, especially roses.
Survivors include one son, Michael of Hemingford; four daughters, Tammy (Mrs. Dan) Smith of Grand Island, Rhonda (Mrs. Michael) Fisk of Coon Rapids, Penny (Mrs. Mark) Rape of Cantonment, Fla., and Christine (Mrs. Chad) Lane of Grand Island; six brothers, Ervin, Walter, and Allen, all of Aberdeen, Alvin of Houghton, S.D., Rueben of Rapid City, S.D. and Robert of Mina, S.D.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alma and Adeline; and four brothers, Willie, Eddie, Marvin and one infant brother.
Marcella Olson
LAKEWOOD, COLO. -- Marcella A. Olson, 93, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of the Inavale farming community, died Friday, May 4, 2001, in Lakewood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Victor Bosselman
Victor Bosselman, 94, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church. The Revs. Robert Harms and Martin Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Bosselman was born April 15, 1906, to Henry and Ollie (Konrad) Bosselman at Worms. He grew up in Merrick County and attended Worms schools.
He married
Irma Rauert on June 10, 1928 at Grad Island. The couple lived on a farm in Hall County. He farmed until 1988 when he retired.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was a founding member of the Lutheran Laymen's League, the Golden years and the Platt-Duetsche Society. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing and family gatherings.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Alice Schroeder, Marcella (Mrs. Jerry) Greenwood and Eileen English, all of Grand Island; Verna (Mrs. Gerald) Nelson of Cody, Wyo. and Loretta (Mrs. George) Dunham of Hastings; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Arnold and two grandchildren.
Carrol Larson
Carrol "Mutt" Larson, 81, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Lakeview Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Uehling City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
