Lyle Ash
GIBBON -- Lyle D. Ash, 48, of Gibbon died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at his home after a terminal illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Gibbon Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Franks officiating. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ash was born on April 18, 1953, in Kearney to Leo and Dorothy (Lyons) Ash. The family lived in the Gibbon area, where he grew up and attended school.
On March 31, 1973, he married
Anna May Borgmann in Gibbon. The couple made their home there. He had been a foreman at the Nebraska Turkey Growers Plant in Gibbon for several years, before working for the Co-op Feed Mill in 1973. It became the Shinn Turkey Feed Division plant and he continued working there until ill health forced his retirement in October 2000.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Kearney.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; four daughters, Lisa Bond, JoAnn Robinson and Mindy Ash, all of Gibbon and Julie Ohlman of Shelton; one brother, Merle Lyons of Phoenix, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
lma Leininger
ALDA -- Alma D. Leininger, 93, of Arcadia died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paixao Baptista will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit of the Arcadia Public Library. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arraignments.
Steven Chandler
36, Business Owner
MESA, Ariz. -- Steven L. Chandler, 36, of Mesa, Ariz., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Calvary Assembly in Grand Island.
Bunker's Desert View Chapel of Mesa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chandler was born on May 1, 1965, in Omaha. He moved to Arizona four years ago, where he owned and operated a salon.
Survivors include his parents, Clyde and Margaret Chandler; and two sisters, Sandee Chandler-Niemann and Karla Goodyear.
Marcella Olson
93, Drug Store Manager
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Marcella A. Olson, 93, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Inavale, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Lakewood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Thomas McGuire will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Olson was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Stephen and Elizabeth Hendrickson.
She married
Elzworth Olson in Cleveland, Ohio. She managed a drug store in Lakewood, Colo., and farmed in the Inavale farming community. Mr. Olson died Feb. 28, 1947.
Survivors include two sons, David Olson of Holdrege and Dwayne Olson of Lexington; one daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Del) Logan of Lakewood, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Rudolph; and one grandchild.
Maxine Wilson
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Maxine Grotz Wilson, 73, of Spokane, Wash. died Monday, April 30, 2001.
Services were held May 4 at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home in Spokane.
Mrs. Wilson was born Oct. 10, 1927, in St. Libory. She had lived in Spokane, Wash., for the past 35 years.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, John A. Wilson; three sons, Greg Wilson of Spokane, Wash., Thomas Wilson of Silverdale, Wash., and Todd Wilson of Renton, Wash.; two daughters, Julie Shinall of Tualatin, Ore., and Shelley Thomas of Spokane, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Wissing of Grand Island and Lorna Helzer of Souderton, Pa.
Albert Sorensen
Albert L. Sorensen, 96, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Julie Bringelson and Delvin Roper will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Ord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center.
Mr. Sorensen was born on April 12, 1903, at Ord to Nels and Johanna (Jergensen) Sorensen. He grew up and was educated in Ord. He then farmed.
He married
Marjorie Wentworth on May 29, 1926, at Smith Center, Kan. They moved to town in 1927, and he worked for Continental Telephone Co. They moved in March 1932 to Manson, Iowa, where he managed Iowa Continental Co. for 10 years. They moved in 1942 to Grinnell, Iowa, where he worked for the same company as a wire chief.
The couple moved to Grand Island in 1943. Mr. Sorensen worked at the Navy depot in Hastings until the end of the war. He then worked at Geer Mobile Homes in Grand Island for six years before working for Silas Mason for 12 years until retiring in April 1971. He later worked part time at all the Grand Island schools.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge Ashlar 33. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Molle of Grand Island; one son, Earl Sorensen of Omaha; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and five sisters.
