Iva Helmkamp
BURWELL -- Iva Grace Helmkamp, 94, of Burwell died Friday, March 24, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Helmkamp was born on April 3, 1905, at Doniphan to Francis D. and Eldora (Harrod) Carriker. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Burwell High School in 1923.
She taught for four years at a Garfield County rural school. She also taught piano lessons.
She married
William "Mike" McKinley Helmkamp on June 26, 1926, in Burwell.
Mrs. Helmkamp lived at Burwell Plaza for many years before becoming a resident at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord in November 1999.
She was a member of the Community Christian Church and the First Christian Church of Burwell. She played the piano and organ for Sunday school for many years. She also was a member of the New Century Club and the Burwell Women's Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Fae Gibson of Metairie, La.; two sons, Darrel Ray Helmkamp of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Galen Lee Helmkamp of Round Rock, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother Lloyd Carriker; and a sister, Alta Abbott.
Evelyn Gilbert
AURORA -- Evelyn Grace Gilbert, 91, of Aurora died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Memorial Long-term Care in Aurora.
Graveside services will be at a later date.
Miss Gilbert was born on Dec. 22, 1908, in Phillips to A.S. and Maude (Tucker) Gilbert. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1926. She graduated from York School of Nursing in 1930. She worked as a registered nurse from 1931 until her retirement.
She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Veva McNeff
FULLERTON -- Veva E. McNeff, 90, of Fullerton died Friday, March 24, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the National Parkinson Foundation, the Nebraska Boys Ranch in Alliance or the United Methodist Church in Fullerton.
Mrs. McNeff was born on May 16, 1909, in Madison County, Iowa, to Lewis Irvin and Maude (Miles) Weeks. She attended rural schools in Madison County. The family moved to Nebraska in 1923 and settled on a farm west of Fullerton. She attended Timber Creek High School and graduated from Fullerton High School as valedictorian in 1926.
She attended Nebraska Central College and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught at Midway District 50 and Cedar Valley rural schools.
She married
Vivian McNeff on June 1, 1932, at North Star. They farmed there for 52 years. They moved to Fullerton in 1979. Mr. McNeff died on Jan. 10, 1992.
Mrs. McNeff was a member of the North Star United Brethren and EUB Church and the United Methodist Church of Fullerton since 1979. She wrote poetry and prose, some of which was published.
Survivors include five sons, William of Minneapolis, Arthur Ray, Ronald and Robert, all of Palmer, and Marvin of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Kathy (Mrs. John) Jensen of Columbia, Mo., and Madalyn McNeff of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Faye Swanson and Grace Cunningham of Fullerton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth McNeff; two grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Weeks; and one sister, Ruby Milby.
Diana Prochaska
HASTINGS -- Diana Prochaska, 44, of Hastings, formerly of Ravenna, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at her home.
Services are pending at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Minnie Stoeger
CAIRO -- Minnie Stoeger, 84, of Cairo died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department and the Quick Response Team.
Mrs. Stoeger was born on Feb. 7, 1916, at Columbia, Mo., to Harvey and Myrtle (McGee) Wyatt. She graduated from high school in Columbia.
She married
Laurence "Ted" Stoeger on July 8, 1939, in Columbia. The couple lived there until 1941, when they moved to Cairo.
Mrs. Stoeger was a homemaker and worked at the Liederkranz for many years until retiring in 1985. Mr. Stoeger died in 1994.
Mrs. Stoeger enjoyed her family, antiques and collectibles.
Survivors include a son, Bud Stoeger of Dannebrog; four daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Jerry) Watson of Kearney, Betty Pokorney of Grand Island, JoAnn (Mrs. Mike) Robertson of Grand Island and Peggy (Mrs. Harold) Veeder of Cairo; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers.
Thomas Hepner
SIDNEY -- Thomas E. Hepner, 67, of Sidney, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in Sidney.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Third City Christian Church in Grand Island. Ken Alexander will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
