Berniece Schumm
CAIRO -- Berniece J. Schumm, 77, of Cairo died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at BryanLGH East Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Carl Blase
HORDVILLE -- Carl M. Blase, 82, of Hordville died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hordville. The Rev. Kurt Letcher will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mr. Blase was born on Sept. 6, 1917, in Hordville to William C. and Lydia (Richert) Blase. He grew up in the Hordville area and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church School. After completing his schooling, he worked for the railroad until entering the U.S. Army.
Mr. Blase served in the Army from October 1942 to January 1946. He went overseas in 1944 and was involved in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa.
He married
Louise A. Wilshusen on April 6, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hordville. They fed cattle and farmed near Hordville until retiring from farming in 1985. They moved into Hordville in 1998.
Mr. Blase was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hordville and served in many church offices. He was involved in many civic activities in the Hordville area, was a past 4-H leader and a member of the American Legion Post in Central City.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Laverne of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Lyle of Hordville; three daughters, Karen Blase of Omaha, Phyllis (Mrs. Steve) Senff of Clay Center and Diane (Mrs. John) Tesarek of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and three brothers, Herbert of Marquette, Clarence of Hordville and Lorance of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark in 1961 and Roger in 1972; one brother, Ervin; and one sister, Anna Driewer.
Bonnie Carol Gelling
CENTRAL CITY -- Bonnie Carol Gelling, 76, of Central City died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Chapman. The Rev. Richard Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggest to the church or the American Diabetes Association.

Dallas Pfeil
DONIPHAN -- Dallas B. Pfeil, 71, of Doniphan died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Kenneth McClain will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the Little Miracles Day-care Center at the church.
Mr. Pfeil was born on Oct. 3, 1928, at Doniphan to Clarence and Nellie (Sparks) Pfeil. He grew up and attended school in the McCook and Alma areas.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War.
Mr. Pfeil married
H. Joan Hendrickson on April 12, 1953, in Grand Island. The lived in Doniphan. Mr. Pfeil worked for Weyerhauser Paper Packaging Co. for 20 years. He also worked at Chief Industries and retired in 1992.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Doniphan.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Pfeil of St. Paul and Donald Pfeil of Moore, Okla.; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. John) Fisher of Sheridan, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Pfeil of Alma; and one sister, Virginia Chipperfield of Alma.
His wife died in 1997. He also was preceded in death by a son, Timothy D. Pfeil; and a brother, Michael Pfeil.
Jaenine Swanson
ST. PAUL - Jaenine M. Swanson, 67, of St. Paul died Thursday, May 19, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Mrs. Swanson was cremated.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas Hyde will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Charles Minnick
NORTH PLATTE -- Charles Emerson Minnick, 91, of North Platte died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The Rev. David Lux will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
Mr. Minnick was born on Dec. 5, 1908, in a sod house in Hayes County near Maywood to William Clayton and Annie Valley Minnick. In 1909, his family moved by covered wagon to Sheridan County near Ellsworth. In 1918, they moved to Frontier County near Maywood, where he attended grade school at Quimby.
He married
Mona M. Perkins on April 12, 1933, in Oberlin, Kan. They moved in 1935 to North Platte, where he worked for the Police Department. He was promoted to captain before he entered the U.S. Navy in November 1942. He was promoted to chief specialist petty officer before he was discharged in January 1946.
In 1947, the family moved to Grand Island, where he worked with Paxton Ganagher Co. of Omaha until 1951. He then worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant as chief of security. He was appointed chief of police in Grand Island in 1954.
In 1956, they moved to California, where he worked with Hughes Aircraft in industrial security until he retired in 1971. The family returned to North Platte in 1972.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, P.R. Halligan Post 163 of the American Legion, Lake Maloney Golf Association and Elks Lodge 985, of which he was a member for 56 years.
Survivors include a nephew and two nieces, including Doniele (Mrs. Ray) Boehler of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three sisters, Gretchen Traub, Edna Cole and Ruth Dienline.
Jack Barr
FORT MADISON, Iowa -- Jack Alwin Barr, 89, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died May 10, 2000, at Fort Madison.
Services were Saturday at the Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison. The Revs. Elliot George and Harold Davis Jr. officiated. Burial was at Oakland cemetery at Fort Madison.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church at Fort Madison.
Mr. Barr was born April 15, 1911, at Hall County to William and Margaret (McKee) Barr.
He married
Lila L. Horan on Nov. 17, 1934, at Grand Island. He moved from Grand Island to Fort Madison in 1937. He graduated from the Hohenschuh-Carpenter College of Mortuary Science at St. Louis in June 1939 and began his funeral career with the former Clements Funeral Home at Fort Madison.
He founded the Barr Memorial Chapel at Fort Madison in March 1958. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Iowa and Illinois for more than 60 years. Mrs. Barr died on April 9, 1983.
He then married
Virginia (Henkle) Robinson on Dec. 21, 1989 at Fort Madison.
He was an outstanding amateur boxer and was the Iowa and Nebraska State Welterweight Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in 1934. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Claypoole Masonic Lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M., member of the Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine, the oldest member of both the Fort Madison Rotary Club and the Fort Madison Elks Lodge No. 374, a member of the Fort Madison Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 671 and Aerie No. 1287 Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James William of Fort Madison and Walter Clements of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two stepsons, Cyrus "Cy" Robinson of Davenport, Iowa and Donald K. Robinson of Bloomington, Ill.; one sister, Edna Sinnard of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
