Marcella Mader
GARNETT, Kan. -- Marcella Ann Mader, 84, of Garnett, Kan., died May 8, 2000, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kan.
Services were on Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett. The Rev. George Matz officiated. Burial was in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Mader was born on March 27, 1916, on the family farm just south of Richmond, Kan., to Fred and Lena (Bach) Brummel. She attended West Scipio School. She worked on the family farm until 1933, when she left to do domestic work in Kansas City.
She took a domestic position with a Chicago-area family in 1936. She stayed with that family for some time and traveled to Florida with them. Later, she worked at the Elgin watch factory in Elgin, Ill. She returned to Kansas in 1938 and later attended beautician school in Kansas City.
She moved to the West Coast in the early 1940s and worked at a stationery factory in the Los Angeles area. She later moved to Portland, Ore., where she worked at the Dornbecker Furniture factory.
She married
Luke W. Mader on May 22, 1946, in Portland, Ore. The couple lived in Portland. The family moved in 1955 to Canon City, Colo., where they lived for 35 years.
In Canon City, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Parish, the Altar Society and the St. Michael Home and School Association. The couple renovated an 1880s home. Mrs. Mader enjoyed gardening, yard work, irrigating and tending her flowers.
The Maders returned to Garnett in 1990.
Mrs. Mader was a member of Holy Angels Parish.
Survivors include two sons, Doug Mader of Garnett and Gary Mader of Grand Island; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Hildred Bures of Garnett, Florence Lickteig of Greeley, Kan., and Agnes Mader of Garnett.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Evelyn Roeckers and Dorothy Mader; and one brother, Elmer Brummel.
Robert Ramirez Jr.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Robert Thomas Ramirez Jr., infant son of Robert and Darleen (Goodroe) Ramirez of Newport News, Va., died shortly after birth Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Vern Rice will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Allena Ramirez of Newport News; a brother, Christian Ramirez of Newport News; five grandparents, Alfonso Ramirez, Terri Gappa, Twila Underwood and Dana and Pamela Peterson, all of Grand Island; five great-grandparents, Melvin and Elna Gappa and George and Donna Peterson, all of Grand Island, and Vernon Goodroe of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a great-great-grandmother, Doris Peterson of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Allen Underwood.
Elsie Wiese
Elsie Halstead Green Wiese, 89, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Virginia Freeman
ST. PAUL -- Virginia N. Freeman, 79, of St. Paul died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Donald Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairmont cemetery at Fairmont.
Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Freeman was born Nov. 28, 1920, to Herman H. and Gladdis L. (Young) Palmer at Fairmont. She grew up and was educated in Fairmont, graduating from Fairmont High School. She then attended Peru State College where she received her bachelor's degree in education. At that time, she returned to Fairmont where she began her teaching career.
She married
Noel E. Baker and the couple lived in Fairmont while she continued to teach school.
She married
Joe A. Freeman on Feb. 14, 1974, at Davenport. The couple lived in numerous communities and states during their marriage. She later moved to Farwell where she taught at the Farwell Elementary School until her retirement. She then moved to St. Paul and worked at the St. Paul Senior Center through the Green Thumb program.
She enjoyed flowers, crafts, cats and collecting Santa Claus items.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of St. Paul and was a former member of the United Methodist Church of Fairmont. She served on the Howard County Senior Citizens Incorporation Board since 1984 and was a fashion bag lady of the St. Paul Senior Center since 1985.
Survivors include one son, Noel V. "Rusty" Baker of St. Paul and one brother, Gordon Neal Palmer of Enterprise, Utah.
Lillian Vasicek
ORD -- Lillian Vasicek, 83, of Ord died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ord Christian Church. The Rev. Mike Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Vasicek was born Jan. 3, 1917, to Anton and Anna (Wachtrle) Mach in Garfield County. Her mother died when she was 4 years old and her father was killed when she was 11 years old. After her father died, she lived on the family farm with her sister and her family. After finishing grade school she moved to Ord and lived with her aunt. She attended Ord High School and graduated in May 1936.
She married
James "Jimmy" Vasicek on Sept. 1, 1936. They lived in and around Ord. She worked at various jobs in Ord. Her last job was at the Valley County Hospital where she worked for 25 years before she retired.
She was a member of the Ord Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Ord and Dwaine of Wahoo; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Mary Janicek.
