Everett Taylor
OXFORD -- Everett Dennis Taylor, 91, of Oxford died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. The Rev. John Borgwardt will officiate. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
Mr. Taylor was born May 8, 1909, to Henry Clay and Mary Agnes (Noirfalise) Taylor on a farm in Furnas County, near Precept. He attended school in rural Furnas County. He farmed his entire life.
He married
Inez Severns on Sept. 19, 1944, at Norton, Kan. The couple lived on a farm near Oxford. He was employed by area farmers, Swanson's Processing Plant, Loomis Alfalfa Mill and the CB&Q; Railroad. For many years, they owned and operated Taylor's Produce. After his retirement, he worked in maintenance for the Oxford Housing Authority.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. He was involved with construction of the church, served on the board of education and was a charter member of the Lutheran Layman's League. He was a current member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Norton, Kan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Herbert of Nashville, Tenn.; six daughters, Avis Johnson of Oxford, Dixie (Mrs. Leland) Green of Funk, Judy Tadlock and Nancy Fry, both of Grand Island, Zona (Mrs. Ronald) Fritz of McCook and Gloria Egge of Shelton; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Cecil Taylor of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by a son, Walter; a great-grandson; seven brothers and five sisters.
Sally Hahn
NAMPA, Idaho -- Sally Ann Hahn, 54, of Nampa, Idaho, formerly Grand Island, died of natural causes Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at her home.
Graveside inurnment services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Dry Creek cemetery in Nampa. Pastor Jerry White will officiate
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hahn was born on June 10, 1946, in Emporia, Kan., to A.J. and Marjorie (Mitchell) McAdoo. She was educated in Emporia and graduated from Emporia State College with a bachelor of arts in interior design.
She married
Douglas M. Hahn on Dec. 30, 1982, in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked as a counselor in a drug rehabilitation center in Sioux City.
Mrs. Hahn was a self-employed interior designer and enjoyed visiting museums, horseback riding, theater and working with handicrafts.
She was a member of the 700 Club.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Karen A. Mersch, Kerry A. Ogilive and Kristin K. Wochnick, all of Nampa; two sons, Jonathon A. Snow and Daniel J. Snow of Nampa; three grandchildren; and one sister, Maril Mittle of Sioux City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Phillip McAdoo.
Nellie Gould
Nellie G. Gould, 92, of 412 N. White Ave. died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Gould's body will be cremated, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gould was born on Aug. 26, 1907, at Arcadia to Dan and Belle (Hughes) Thompson. She grew up at Arcadia and graduated from high school there. She received her teaching degree from Kearney State Teachers College in 1929.
She married
William Beams in 1929. They lived in Ord until 1932, when they moved to Arcadia. She was a telephone operator there.
She married
Howard Gould on Jan. 24, 1952, at Central City. They lived in Grand Island. Mrs. Gould was a telephone operator and desk clerk at the Yancey Hotel for 18 years.
Mrs. Gould was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the Foster Grandparents at Connell and Gates schools.
Survivors include a son, Floyd Beams of Blacksburg, Va.; three daughters, Gwendolyn Keldsen and Belle (Mrs. Oscar) Burt, both of Lincoln, and Brenda Cummings of Grand Island; three stepsons, Don Gould and Calvin Gould, both of Arcadia, and Earl Dean Gould of Kearney; 22 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1971. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Beams; a stepson, Dale Gould; two grandsons; and two brothers, Clarence and Virgil.
Vernon Wood
Vernon H. Wood, 74, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in Souleville cemetery in Boelus.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church, American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
Mr. Wood was born on March 23, 1926, at Boice City, Okla., to Oscar and Daisy Bell (Powers) Wood. He was educated in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Luzon Island Campaign from 1944 to May 1945. He then re-enlisted and served in Germany until November 1946.
He married
Evelyn Hughes on Dec. 10, 1946. They lived in the Boice City, Okla., area and moved to Nebraska in 1954. They lived in Taylor for a year and then in Merna.
In 1966, they moved to Columbus for two years and then back to Merna, then to Kearney and settled in Grand Island in 1971. Mrs. Wood died in 1995. Mr. Wood was a farmer and cattle feeder most of his life and had worked at New Holland before retiring due to an injury and ill health.
He married
Louise (Holder) Morrison on May 2, 1998, in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the church choir and was serving as president of the First United Methodist Men. He was active in the Interfaith Community Choir and the Inspirations Gospel Group.
He was well known for his carpentry, his wit and humor.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Vernon Jr. "Woody" of Bassett; two daughters, Frances (Mrs. Joe) Brockman of Lawrence and Mary (Mrs. Richard) Lehn of Worms; one stepson, Jeff Morrison of Atlanta; one stepdaughter, Stacia Morrison of Grand Island; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, John of Grand Island and Allen of Stockton, Calif.; and three sisters, Eleanor Homan of Copperas Cove, Texas, Alta Larkin of Denver and Dora (Mrs. Rick) Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jere; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Louis Bialas
FULLERTON -- Louis E. Bialas, 83, of Fullerton, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Revs. Don Cleary and Mark Tomasiewicz will officiate. Burial will be at the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bialas was born Dec. 15, 1916, to Stanley Charles and Mary (Sturek) Bialas in Nance County. He grew up on the family farm and attended Krakow Catholic School.
He married
Anne Dubas on May 14, 1946, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. They lived on a farm southeast of Fullerton where Mr. Bialas farmed until 1981 when they moved into Fullerton.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club.
He enjoyed fishing, antiques and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Frank, Sam, Paul and Tom of Fullerton and David of Hastings; four daughters, Ev (Mrs. Dave) Blahak of Columbus, Diane (Mrs. Adolph) Wotipka of Ceresco, Lois (Mrs. Jeff) Greenwalt of Central City and Janice (Mrs. Ed) Drozd of Genoa; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven brothers, Edward of Genoa, Steve and Johnnie of Fullerton, Leonard and Richard of Columbus, Walter of Genoa and Daniel of Silver Creek; and four sisters, Frances Zelazny of Silver Creek, Belle Zona of St. Cloud, Minn., Rose (Mrs. Ted) Tworek of Omaha and Dorothy Bialas of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd and two infant sisters.
