Catharine Malleck
Catharine E. Malleck, 88, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Malleck was born on July 21, 1911, at Havana in Frontier County to James and Edith (Derrick) Powers. She grew up on a farm in Frontier County and graduated from Havana High School in 1930.
She married
John Malleck on April 15, 1932, at Indianola. The couple lived in Indianola. They moved to Grand Island in 1950. Mrs. Malleck was a production worker at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant from 1967 to 1972. Mr. Malleck died on March 10, 1983.
Mrs. Malleck was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence Malleck of Grand Island; three daughters, Loretta Knox of North Hollywood, Calif., Colleen (Mrs. Ralph) Aerni of Columbus and Debby (Mrs. Mark) Luebke of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte Creasman of Imperial.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, two daughters, three sisters and three brothers.
Elva McCaffrey
Elva D. McCaffrey, 84, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hills of Rest Memorial Park cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mrs. McCaffrey was born on March 2, 1915, at Colton, S.D., to Arthur and Mable (Carruthers) Wahlstrom. She grew up and attended school in Colton.
She married
Robert C. McCaffrey on Sept. 5, 1940, in Webster City, Iowa. The couple lived in Waterloo, Iowa, where she worked for Nash Finch Co. from 1942 to 1962. She then worked for Sieg Company Auto Parts in Davenport, Iowa. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1965, and she worked as a cashier at Sears from 1966 until she retired in 1981.
Mrs. McCaffrey was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle. She was also a member of the Sears ChatterBox Retirees.
Survivors include her husband and one sister, Peggy Ann Berg of Bremerton, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Nelson; and a brother, Wesley Wahlstrom.
Dorothy Olson
Dorothy E. Olson, 89, of, Grand Island, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Tiffany Square Care Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Forrest Lawn cemetery in Omaha, at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Olson was born Nov. 24, 1910, to Rolla C. and Elizabeth G. (Hayes) Smith at Omaha. She grew up in Omaha and was educated at Benson West Elementary School and graduated from Benson High School.
She married
Arthur T. Olson in 1947 at Omaha. The couple lived in Omaha where they owned and operated Olson's Market in the Omaha/Benson area.
She was a member of United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed needle point, reading, gold and bridge.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Lush of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Rolla and Frank.
Gary Page
Gary F. Page, 59, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Page was born May 13, 1940, to Fred and Matilda (Dietring) Page at Grand Island. He grew up in Grand Island and attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1958. He also attended Kearney State College.
He married
Christi Osborn on Sept. 2, 1961, in Grand Island.
He married
Carol Fenton on May 13, 1972, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island where he was employed at the Sugar Beet factory and then the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He later worked at Nebraska White Trucks, York Mfg and Chief Industries before retiring.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Platt Duetsche Society, Riverside Golf Club and United Veterans Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golf and doing yard work. He also enjoyed gambling.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Fred of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Heather (Mrs. Brandon) Shada of Omaha, Heidi Page of Grand Island and Sherry (Mrs. Steve) Wirtz of Windsor, Colo.; two grandchildren; and one brother, Bruce of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lloyd Plejdrup
Lloyd Plejdrup, 66, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery with military rites by the Alda/Wood River Post 4677.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Plejdrup was born April 27, 1933, at Grand Island to Jens and Helen (Layher) Plejdrup. In 1942 he moved with his family to a farm northwest of Wood River. He received his education in the Wood River School District.
He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 14, 1953, and served in the engineer division during the Korean Conflict until May 21, 1956.
He married
Linda Plummer in 1955. After his discharge he worked in the construction field. He constructed buildings as well as working on projects such as Interstate 80. Later he drove trucks for various trucking firms. He worked at the Cashway Caterpillar Warehouse in Reno, Nev. before coming to Nebraska in the early 90's.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon of California and Jamey of Florida; one daughter, Jodi (Mrs. Tony) Wichman of Grand Island; one grandson; one step-grandson; his mother, Helen Knick of Wood River; two brothers, Harold of Cairo and Dale of Guadalajara, Mexico; and one stepsister, Carrie (Mrs. Larry) Powers of Alda.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gwendolyn.
