Doyle Francis
ELBA -- Doyle I. Francis, 85, of Elba died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul with Rev. Donald Voorhees officiating. Mr. Francis was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Peder's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nysted.
Mr. Francis was born July 30, 1915 to Bruce and Lelah Warren Francis in Burr Oak, Kansas. In 1926 he moved with his family to a farm near Fullerton. He attended school in Nance County and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1933.
He married
Agnes Russel on Dec. 26, 1941 in Oakland. The couple made their home on a farm south of Fullerton. They moved to a farm near Fayette, Missouri in 1944.
They returned to farm near Fullerton in 1952. In 1961 they moved to Howard County where they farmed near Farwell and later near Elba.
He worked at the sugar beet factory in Grand Island, operated the Howard County weed spraying service and drove a school bus for the Elba school district for 23 years. In 1981 he became semi-retired and moved to Elba.
He was a member of St. Peder's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nysted. He had been involved with 4-H activities and was a farmer all his life.
Survivors include his wife of Elba; three daughters, Joyce Beauchanp of Wetherfield, Conn., Barbara (Mrs. Steve) Stefanowicz of Farwell and Evea Addis of Derby, Kan.; four sons, Bruce of Danville, N.H., Norman of St. Louis, Mo., Keith of Cedarville, Ohio, and Daniel of Derby, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Vaughn and Dallas, both of Fullerton, and Verlin of Wayne.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Letha Russel.
Mary Penny
SARGENT -- Mary A. Penny, 91, of Sargent died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. wake service at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Penny was born July 13, 1909, at Sargent to Albert M. and Adelia (Sullivan) Smith. She went to Morris School north of Sargent and graduated from Sargent High School in 1927. She then attended Kearney State College for a teacher's certificate.
She taught school in the rural area of Sargent. After a teaching career she was a clerk in the J.C. Penney Store and worked at the Bank at Sargent.
She married
Lee M. Penny on April 8, 1948, in Seward. She was a homemaker. After the death of her husband she moved into Sargent. She had been in the Sargent Nursing Center for about 6 weeks.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Dorothy Lewis of Amherst; a stepson, Windsor Penny of Sargent; eight step-grandchildren; three sisters, Catherine Beck of Mesa, Ariz. and Virginia Pulliam and Marge Brass, both of Sargent.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Robert, Steve and Richard Smith.
Gloria Sillivan
ARCADIA -- Gloria A. Sillivan, 72, of Arcadia died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Arcadia Community Hall. Lon Larsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent.
Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Sillivan was born July 7, 1928, in Burwell to Harold L. and Aleta N. (Lenker) Clark. She attended country school near Burwell and graduated from Burwell High School. She attended the Grand Island Business College.
On Jan. 8, 1947, she married
Norman Sillivan Sr. in Bellevue. They lived in Omaha, Burwell, Ord and North Loup before settling near Arcadia in 1956. They moved into Arcadia in 1987. Mr. Sillivan died in January 1990. She worked for H and R Block in North Platte in 1968 and 1969 and then at the Ord office in 1970 as a tax consultant.
Survivors include five daughters, Loy Snow of Brewster, Linda Bond and Carman (Mrs. Dennis) Greenland, both of Arcadia, Diane Sillivan of Seattle and Melea (Mrs. Randy) Scott of Westerville; three sons, George "Mike" of Bellevue, Wash., Elvin of Malmo and Norman Jr. of Arcadia; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Stewart Clark of Marino Valley, Calif.; and one sister, Arlene Hughes of Sargent.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, an infant grandson and an infant brother.
Arleene Talich
GILTNER -- Arleene Talich, 80, of Giltner died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Giltner with the Rev. Nora Leeds officiating. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Talich was born on June 28, 1920, at Inland to Ward and Henrietta (Bartlett) Hartzell. She grew up in Giltner and attended rural Franklin School. She worked at Tommy's Cafe in Hastings and the Giltner Tavern for her parents.
She married
Richard Talich on Nov. 15, 1944, at Columbus. They farmed near Giltner. They owned and ran the Giltner Tavern from 1965 until their retirement in 1973.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Giltner and the Doniphan American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing and cooking.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary of Hastings and Rob of Omaha; one daughter, Pat (Mrs. Jon) Chandler of Westminister, Colo.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Happold of Aurora and Letha Warrick of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Bevilhimer and Ruth Hultine; and one brother, Wayne Hartzell.
E.M. Longsine
BEAVER CITY -- Edward M. "E.M." Longsine, 75, of Beaver City died Nov. 1, 2000.
Mr. Longsine was cremated. There were no services and no visitation.
Aspen Mortuary in Lincoln was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Longsine was born on March 28, 1925, in Hendley. He was a rancher.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; four sons, Lonnie and Brett of Lincoln, Gregg of Lenexa, Kan., and Marc of Edison; four daughters, Carol Sibley and Vicki Longsine of Lincoln, Roxy Long of Beaver City and Julie Benson of North Loup; and nine grandchildren.
