Harold Kanter
PALMER -- Harold M. Kanter, 82, of Palmer died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Integrated Health Service.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer.
Pastor Robert Schilling will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home.
Mr. Kanter was born on April 17, 1917, in rural Merrick County.
He attended St. John's Lutheran School in Palmer and graduated from Palmer Public School in 1934.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945.
He served under Gen. MacArthur and took part in the D-Day invasion.
He married
Florence Dankert on May 3, 1946, and farmed south of Palmer.
Mrs. Kanter died in 1978.
Mr. Kanter married
Dorothy Helzer in 1978 and moved to St. Paul in 1982.
He entered the Integrated Health Service in October 1999.
Mr. Kanter was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he held many offices.
Survivors include a son, Keith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Connie Saathoff of Hastings, Lois Wegner of Palmer and Beverly Nixon of Kenesaw; one stepdaughter, Kathy Luhn of Cairo; three stepsons, Dick Helzer of Derby, Kan., Ted Helzer of Yuma, Ariz., and Rick Helzer of Cairo; a brother, Clarence of Palmer; and a sister, Anne Weber of Grand Island.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Rodney and David.
Mabel Niklasson
ST. EDWARD -- Mabel Henrietta Niklasson, 98, of St. Edward died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran cemetery in rural St. Edward.
The Rev. David Collins will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Niklasson was born on Dec. 2, 1901, at Newman Grove to Hellek G. and Maria (Field) Texly.
She attended a rural Madison County school north of Newman Grove and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1920.
Following her graduation, she taught in rural schools.
She married
Elmer Theodore Niklasson on Dec. 8, 1921, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove.
They lived and farmed southeast of Salem Lutheran Church in rural St. Edward and then moved to a farm east of St. Edward.
They spent many winters in Tucson, Ariz.
Mr. Niklasson died on May 2, 1975.
Mrs. Niklasson then moved into St. Edward.
Mrs. Niklasson was a member of Trinity and Salem Lutheran churches and was active in the Salem Ladies Aid and other church activities.
She was a member of the Sew and Chat Club and the Goldenrod Club.
She enjoyed playing cards and games.
Survivors include a son, DuWaine Niklasson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn (Kiesling) Niklasson; two grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters.
Dale Olsen
ST. PAUL -- Dale J. Olsen, 67, of St. Paul died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.
The Revs. Michael McDermott and James Murphy will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul with graveside military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Olsen was born on Aug. 27, 1932, on the family farm east of Farwell to James P. and Hertha (Rasmussen) Olsen.
He attended Farwell public schools, graduating from Farwell High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 1953 to February 1955 and served in Germany.
Upon his discharge, he returned to St. Paul and began working for Tommy-Rene Printers, publishers of several area newspapers.
He married
Carolyn T. Larchick on May 24, 1958, at Loup City.
The couple lived in St. Paul throughout their marriage.
Mr. Olsen enjoyed crossword puzzles.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and eucharistic minister and had served on the parish council.
He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Greg and Jeff, both of Lincoln, and Bob and Ron, both of Grand Island; three daughters, Laura (Mrs. Peter) Berthelsen of Elba, Marcia (Mrs. Matt) Bolling of Central City and Cheryl (Mrs. Bryan) Watson of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; one sister, Edna Petersen of St. Paul; and two brothers, Clarence Olsen of Grand Island and Roy Olsen of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Olsen.
Raymond Psota
ORD -- Raymond Psota, 81, of Ord died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Valley County Hospital Foundation.
