Virginia Kearns
Virginia M. Kearns, 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Nebraska Veterans Home.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kearns was born July 11, 1923, in Burwell to Max and Clara (Ledger) Tetschner.
She married
Elmer Kearns on Aug. 19, 1948, in Loup City. They lived in North Loup, where he was a police officer. Mr. Kearns died in February 1999. She has been living in the Nebraska Veterans Home for nine years.
She enjoyed gardening and canning.
Survivors include one stepson and his wife, Monte and Connie Kearns of Burwell; two sisters-in-law, Pauline and her husband, Harry Burson of Grand Island and Cecelia Kimball of Galt, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Floyd Tetschner; and one sister, Angie Key.
C. Linton Hodgson
BURWELL -- C. Linton Hodgson, 78, of Burwell died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell. The Revs. Scott Harvey and David Koenigsberg will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Blanche Kroeger
WOOD RIVER -- Blanche M. Kroeger, 88, of Wood River, formerly of Cairo, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Home in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. The Rev. Glen Keylon will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Kroeger was born Dec. 16, 1911, in Wood River to D.F. and Hattie (Wallichs) Scott. When she was 3 years old, the family moved to Lisco in western Nebraska. They lived there for five years before moving back to a farm near Grand Island. She attended Engleman School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1928. She then attended Kearney State Teachers College and received a teaching certificate. She taught rural schools for seven years. Later she worked as a substitute teacher and an aide in the Cairo school system.
She married
Ed Kroeger Jr. in Grand Island on June 30, 1937. He died on Nov. 3, 1973.
She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, charter member of the Ladies aid, member of the "U Can I Can" Extension Club for many years and a member of the Red Cross, where she did volunteer work in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Grand Island.
Survivors include her cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Esther Summers, 75, Retired L.P.N.
AURORA -- Esther P. Summers, 75, of Grand Island, formerly Ogallala, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. William Voelker officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Fort McPherson National cemetery in Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Summers was born Sept. 15, 1925, at Elm Creek to Leslie and Leora (German) Laflan. She was raised and received her education in Elm Creek. She attended nursing school in North Platte, where she received her licensed practical nursing degree in 1972.
She married
Glenn Summers on March 19, 1949, at Minden, Nev. They moved to Ogallala in 1964. Mr. Summers died on June 4, 1978. Mrs. Summers moved to Grand Island in 1992.
She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Jonnette Hesnault of Lincoln and Bill and Lynda Hesnault of Ogallala; one daughter, Anne Haworth of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three adopted children; William "Bill" Carstens and his wife, Cheryl of Grand Island, Edward Summers of Fremont and Rebecca Summers of Grand Island; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her mother, Leora Hasbrouck of North Platte; one brother, Virgil Beavers of North Platte; and two sisters, Vina Shaw and Connie Neal, both of North Platte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father and brother, William "Chub" Laflan.
Dorothy Mills, 92, Retired teacher
OMAHA -- Dorothy E. Mills, 92, of Omaha died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Central City. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, prior to services, in the Central City Cemetery.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Omaha.
There will be no visitation.

Ms. Mills was born Dec. 22, 1908, in Central City to David Baird and Annie Mills.
She was employed as a teacher for the Omaha Public Schools and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, C. Jean and Robert Soares of Omaha; two sons and daughter-in-law, R. Keith and Ardyce Roumpf of Omaha and Galen G. Roumpf of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Prudence Pullen of Central City; and one sister-in-law, Arline Baird of Central City.
Lowell Spencer
OMAHA -- Lowell V. Spencer, 73, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
There will be no visitation.
Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries of Omaha are in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife; Norma Spencer of Omaha; two sons, Eugene Spencer of Mississippi and Jonathan Spencer of Omaha; one sister, Carol Heying of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.
Debbie Davis, 48, self-employed
BOUSE, Ariz. -- Debbie Davis, 48, of Bouse, Ariz., died Sunday, April 29, 2001, in a traffic accident in Parker, Ariz.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Geer-Stern Chapel in Grand Island.
Ms. Davis was born Sept. 13, 1952, in Grand Island to Jim and Elinor Buckner. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1970.
She later moved to Mabank, Texas, where she married
Rick Davis Sr. The couple moved to Grand Island a few years after being married.
She moved to Bouse, Ariz., where she met Ed Nelson. Ms. Davis was self-employed.
She enjoyed dancing, country line dancing and the Irish River dance.
Survivors include her son, Rick Jr. of Henderson, Texas; her mother, Elinor Peterson of Grand Island; her fiancé, Ed Nelson of Bouse, Ariz.; one sister, Janet Pecoraro of Sanford, Maine; and two brothers, Christian Peterson of Grand Island and Leland Peterson of Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Buckner; and her stepfather, Floyd Peterson.
