Dean Erickson
Dean R. Erickson, 72, of 1407 Newcastle Road No. 108 died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Revs. Gretchen Diers and Doug Stensby will officiate. There will be a private family burial.
There will be no visitation. Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.
Mr. Erickson was born on Jan. 21, 1928, in Ong to Earnest and Ebba (Roos) Erickson. The family moved to the Grand Island area. He attended school in Grand Island and Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1945. He attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught at District 16 School in Wood River.
He married
Naomi J. Fuerstenau on Nov. 4, 1951. He worked for Overland National Bank in Grand Island for 23 years and was also a financial adviser. He also worked at Chief Industries and Pony Express.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served on the church council and several committees. He served on the YMCA board of directors, school board and two terms on the chamber of commerce board of directors.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Tim of Greenwood, Mo.; one daughter, Jane Davis of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Marvelle Laursen of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie and an infant brother, Hubert.
Elvine Lahowetz
Elvine J. Lahowetz, 93, of Grand Island died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Riverside Lodge.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Rafael Renteria
Rafael V. Renteria, 44, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
There will be no local services. Mr. Renteria's body will be sent to Mexico for burial.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Renteria was born on Dec. 21, 1955, in Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Juan de Dios and Eufemia (Varela) Renteria. He was educated in Mexico.
He married
Rosalia Saenz in 1979 in Mexico. He came to the United States in 1985 and lived in California. He moved to Nebraska in August 1997 and worked at the IBP meatpacking plant in Gibbon.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Cristian Rafael Renteria Saenz; two daughters, Heidy Iveth Renteria Saenz and Diana Rosio Renteria Saenz; his mother; one brother, Juan Osvaldo Renteria; and four sisters, Olga Leticia Renteria de Blanco, Hilda Y. Guzman, Ana Jmelda Renteria de Fierro and Catalina Renteria de Constantino, all of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Ruth Beran
ORD -- Ruth Louise Beran, 66, of Ord died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ord. The Rev. Mark Middendorf will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Beran was born on Nov. 12, 1933, at Weeping Water in Cass County to Noah Adam and Helena Anna Louisa (Sass) Wannemaker. She graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1952.
She married
Richard James Beran on Aug. 28, 1953, at Hebron. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the Cass County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office, the Thayer County Bank, Dempster Mill and Eastman Kodak. She became a full-time homemaker after starting her family.
She enjoyed sewing and collecting Hallmark ornaments.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Julie (Mrs. Gene) McBride; a grandson; and a sister, Goldie Hanson of Weeping Water.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Wannemaker of Omaha.
Leon Krepel
ORD -- Leon "Lee" Krepel, 83, of Ord died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Ord Rescue Unit.
Mr. Krepel was born on Aug. 10, 1916, at St. Paul to Joseph and Anna (Vlach) Krepel. He grew up near Cotesfield and graduated from Cotesfield High School. He graduated from Grand Island Business College and also attended Kearney State College.
While in Grand Island, he worked at the air base and later for the Rural Electrification Administration. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 7, 1941, to Jan. 2, 1942.
He married
Lillian Rutar on June 17, 1946, at Ord. They lived in Grand Island until 1951, when they moved to Ord. He operated a hatchery in Ord from 1951 to 1969 and then owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store from 1969 until he retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Ord Elks Lodge, the Ord American Legion, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the ZCBJ Lodge of Ord.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, creating things in his shop and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife and a sister, Irene Pomajzl of Crete.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian, Georgia, Viola and Anna; and two brothers, Joseph and Richard.
Steffie Parkos
ORD -- Steffie Parkos, 85, of Ord died Friday, May 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Senior Classic at Ord.
Agnes Aspinall
Agnes W. Aspinall, 92, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Wesleyan Health Center of Rapid City, S.D.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Ms. Aspinall was cremated.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Aspinall was born Jan. 19, 1909, in Whitman to Thomas P. and Isabella (Burr) Aspinall. She was educated and grew up in Mullen, graduating from Mullen High School. She furthered her education at Grand Island Business College. In 1930, she moved to North Platte and later returned to Grand Island where she was employed at Wolbach's, Jake's Bakery and Stolley Bakery.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Rebecca Lodge and the Eagles Club.
Survivors include a sister, Lena Mae Miner of Gregory, S.D.
She was preceded in death by three sisters.
