Frank Brower
Frank Brower, 47, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Ardean Lamb
Ardean Lamb, 61, of Grand Island died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Ronald Benson will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Spencer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Lamb was born on Sept. 10, 1939, in Guide Rock to Wellington and Ida (Campbell) Lamb. He moved to Hastings at a young age. He attended Hastings schools and graduated from Hastings High School. He entered the United States Army in February 1957. He was honorably discharged in February 1960.
He married
Lois Kaczor on Aug. 8, 1981, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, where he worked for Country General as an inventory controller.
Over 40 years, he played in several country western bands, including E.Z. Country and Wild Country. He and the bands would travel and provide weekend entertainment for many years around the area.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island and the Eagles, and also was a Boy Scout leader for several years. He enjoyed his music, hunting and playing pool, and was an avid Husker fan.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eric Kaczor of Lincoln, Scott Lamb of Scotia and Steve Lamb of Doniphan; one daughter, Michelle Carlson of Grand Island; eight grandchildren, and one brother, Roger Prosser of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob Asher
AURORA -- Bob Asher, 72, of Aurora died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at his home in Aurora.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joe Scahill will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Asher was born on June 2, 1928, in Page to Neil and Freida (Fuelberth) Asher. He grew up and attended country school near Page, and quit school to help his father farm when his older brothers left to serve in World War II.
He married
Shirley Appleby on Aug. 27, 1949, in Inman. After their marriage, he began working in the grocery business in stores at O'Neill, Rapid City, S.D., Alliance, Winner, S.D., and Aurora. He sold the Aurora Red & White Grocery and retired in 1988. He then enjoyed working on his small farm.
His wife died on June 6, 1993.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the Winner Fire Department, Winner Elks Club, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Rotary Club and Aurora Country Club.
Mr. Asher enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, card playing, building, repairing and restoring machinery and annual outings to Branson, Mo. He had a gift of hospitality and loved spending time with his family and friends at their lakeside cabin. He and his wife hosted the annual "Asher Open Golf Tournament" at their cabin each June for 25 years.
Survivors include three sons, Terry of Des Moines, Iowa, Randy of Aurora and Mark of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Jan Dick and Mardell Jasnowski of Aurora and Sandi Sweeney of Grand Island; five brothers, Ben, Harold and Jerry, all of Page, Dick of Powell, Wyo., and Kenneth of Atkinson; two sisters, Lillie Kemper of O'Neill and Helen Snoeck of West Lake Village, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and special friend Joyce Heath.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
'Pat' McGargill Sr.
CARTER LAKE, Iowa -- Thomas E. "Pat" McGargill Sr., 61, of Carter Lake, Iowa, died of cancer Friday, April 27, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Queen of Apostles Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Rev. Tom Crowley will officiate. A private burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in the Missouri Valley in Iowa on Thursday.
Mr. McGargill will be cremated following the service.
A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, with visitation at 9 p.m. at the Queen of Apostles Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Queen of Apostles Church or the the Servants of Mary St. Peregrine Cancer Fund.
Mr. McGargill was born on Sept. 23, 1939, at San Diego to Donald and Martha (Doyle) McGargill. He graduated from Creighton Prep High School in Omaha in 1957.
He married
Janice Morrow on April 2, 1982. He then worked as a machine operator at the Modren Equipment Company in Omaha for 121Ž2 years.
He had to quit on March 16 due to his illness.
He was a member of the Queen of the Apostles Church.
Survivors include his wife of Carter Lake; one stepdaughter, Debra Antillon of Omaha; one stepson, Ken Ragland of Omaha; one adopted son, Tom McGargill Jr. of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sisters, Joan (Mrs. Kermit Sr.) Durr of Earp, Calif., and Sister Donna Marie McGargill, OSM, of Grand Island; and three brothers, John of Earp, Calif., Frank of Parker Dam, Calif., and Gerry of Omaha.
Ella Moore
Ella M. Moore, 89, of Grand Island died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Wilma Shull
Wilma M. Shull, 78, of Grand Island died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Wilma Shull Fund at the Eppley Cancer Research Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center or the Prairie Pioneer Genealogical Society.
Mrs. Shull was born March 22, 1922, to Samuel and Fay (Cassell) Sadler at Alma. She grew up and attended schools at Havelock, Republican City, Hastings and Central City.
She married
Donald Lee Shull on Nov. 22, 1941, at Omaha after which they lived in Archer, Chapman, Norfolk, and later Grand Island.
She was a talented artist, published author, and active member of the Central Nebraska Writers Group. She was a charter member of the Madison County Genealogical Society, Nebraska State Genealogical Society, Northeast Nebraska Writers, Prairie Pioneer Genealogical Society, and a member of the Friends of Henry Fonda, Betsey Hager Chapter of the DAR, Adams County Historical Society, Prairie Pioneer Quilters, Grand Island Woman's Club, and the Stuhr Museum. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sami Rae Dietrich of Nashville, Tenn., and Kathleen Fay Downing and Susan Ellen Carstenson, both of Omaha; one son, Dr. James Donald Shull of Omaha; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Jeanene Hiett of Blackshear, Ga.
Max Thomas
Max M. Thomas, 78, of Grand Island died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Inurement will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Olney, Ill., to William and Dessie (Scherer) Thomas. He grew up in Richland County, Ill., and received his education at Wilson School and Olney Township High School.
He entered the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne during WWII. He was active in D-Day, several European Campaigns and was part of General Eisenhower's Honor Guard. He was honorably discharged Dec. 26, 1945.
He married
Rosalie Jeanette Hout on Aug. 19, 1948, in Olney. The couple resided in the Olney area where he was employed by the Olney Greenhouse and Flower Shop until 1968, when they moved to Grand Island. He was employed by Clark Brothers Sanitation in Grand Island until retirement.
He was an active outdoorsman and an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Thomas and Kevin Thomas, both of Grand Island; three daughters, Vicki Thomas of Grand Island, Dee Northup of Lincoln and Jayne Cole of Grand Island; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Oral Thomas of Olney, Ill., and Ray Thomas of Tuscola, Ill., and sister Bernadine Wagy of Olney, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife and grandson, Bradley.
