Ruth Benson
AURORA -- Ruth Louise Benson, 84, of Hordville died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville with the Rev. Charles Pollard officiating. Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Benson was born on Sept. 15, 1916, on a farm near Sidney, Iowa, to Raymond Arthur and Lena (Madison) Trewet. She lived in Sidney until the sixth grade, when she moved to Fremont. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1933.
Mrs. Benson attended Nebraska Central College in Central City. She was an elementary teacher in Merrick County for six years and served as an office secretary for the Merrick County superintendent of schools for a year and a half.
She married
Albin H. Benson on June 6, 1943, in Ogden, Utah. They lived in Central City and moved in 1947 to Hordville, where Mr. Benson established Benson Plumbing.
Mrs. Benson served as secretary for Hordville public schools for more than 20 years. Mr. Benson died on Sept. 8, 1981. Mrs. Benson lived in Hordville until moving to Hamilton Manor in 1994.
She was a member of Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild, Sunday school superintendent and teacher for more than 30 years. She served on the Hordville school board for nine years, was active as a 4-H leader, home extension club member, in Royal Neighbors of America and a local card club.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Ronald) Carlson of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Lennis Benson of Norfolk; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Raymond Trewet; and one sister, Erma Jipp.
Irene Ottun
BROKEN BOW -- Irene G. Ottun, 82, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Winn will officiate. Burial will be in the Round Valley cemetery in Custer County.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Ottun was born on Sept. 25, 1918, in the Antelope Valley community near Sargent to Benjamin and Della (West) Russell. She attended Antelope Valley rural school and graduated from Sargent High School in 1937. She then attended Kearney Teachers College and taught for six years in three country schools.
She married
Harold Ottun on March 21, 1942. They spent all of their married
life in the Round Valley community, where they farmed and ranched.
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow, taught Sunday school classes for many years, helped with vacation Bible school and worked with the Awana Clubs.
Survivors include one son, Virgil Ottun of Fremont; two daughters, Cynthia (Mrs. Tracy) Johnson of San Diego and Gloria Engstrom of Oak Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Violet Clausen of Stapleton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; infant twin sons, Victor and Vance; five brothers; and two sisters.
Norman Boltz
PALM BAY, Fla. -- Norman L. Boltz, 71, of Palm Bay, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, as a result of a lengthy illness.
There will be no services.
Mr. Boltz was born on June 22, 1929, in Hall County to Art and Gladys (Gardner) Boltz. He grew up and was educated in Hall County, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1947. Following graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C.
He married
Jane Rose Lytle on Dec. 14, 1950, in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Florida and Gerald of Texas; one daughter, Lynn Peeples of Florida; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Barbara Settle and Janet Eckoldt, both of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother, Fred.
Frederick Wellwood
MINNEAPOLIS -- Frederick Wellwood, 49, of Minneapolis died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Ruth Delarm
Ruth M. Delarm, 94, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Victoria Grudzinski
Victoria Gertrude Grudzinski, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Revs. Tom Ryan and Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Parish Center.
Mrs. Grudzinski was born Dec. 23, 1911, on a farm in Sherman County near Ashton to Anthony and Magdalena (Piontkowski) Krolikowski. She grew up on the family farm and was educated in Sherman County.
She married
Louie B. Grudzinski on Aug. 23, 1932, at Loup City. The couple farmed near Ashton and then moved to a farm near Cairo in 1942. During World War II, she worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. In 1950, the family moved to a farm north of Grand Island. Later the family moved to Grand Island where she worked at the Thompson Candy Company for eight years.
In 1963, the couple moved to Hustisford, Wis., where she was employed by the Wagner Products Corporation for 14 years until her retirement. In March 1984, the couple returned to Grand Island where her husband died on June 28, 1984.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Court Ave Maria 1263 Catholic Daughters of America, St. Mary's Altar Society, and the Legion of Mary.
Mrs. Grudzinski was a childcare provider. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, gardening, growing African Violets and traveling.
Survivors include four sons, Edwin of Juneau, Wis., George E. of Watertown, Wis., Richard L. of Grand Island, and LeRoy of Kerrville, Texas; two daughters, Louise D. (Mrs. Elvin) Will of Hustisford, Wis., and Barbara J. (Mrs. Larry) Adams of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild; three brothers, Raymond of Grand Island, Leo of Omaha, and Henry of Grand Island; three sisters, Delphine (Mrs. Ben) Woitaszewski of Grand Island, Gertrude (Mrs. Leland) Johnson of Lincoln and Evelyn (Mrs. Robert) Thompson of Omaha.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant twin son, Eugene; a grandson; one brother, Edmund, and one sister, Clementina.
Evelyn Schwieger
Evelyn S. Schwieger, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at the Skilled Care Unit of St. Francis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Doug Stensby will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Schwieger was born July 2, 1916, in Grand Island to William and Wilhelmina (Knefelkamp) Blaise. She was raised in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1934.
She married
Leo Schwieger on March 28, 1935, in Grand Island. She worked at Pinkston Laundry for 17 years. She was then employed as a cook at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 13 years. She retired in 1979.
Mrs. Schwieger was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and being in her garden.
Survivors include four sons, Leo, Jerry, and Richard Schwieger, all of Grand Island, and Dennis Schwieger of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Lawrence) Scheel of Grand Island, Wilhelmina Mapes of Portland, Ore., and Florence (Mrs. Larry) Froeming of Caldwell, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; one daughter, Judy Schwieger; two sisters, Edna Niemoth and Dorothy Schwieger; and two brothers, Robert and Arthur Blaise.
