Arnold Kinney
Arnold O. Kinney, 77, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Petersburg. The Rev. Susan Sanders will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kinney was born on March 1, 1923, at Petersburg to William and Sophie (Thompson) Kinney. He grew up and was educated at Petersburg.
He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 3, 1943, at Fort Crook and served in Europe during World War II. He was discharged on Dec. 5, 1945, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
He married
Dawn Rooker in 1947. The couple lived in Seattle. Mrs. Kinney died in 1967, and Mr. Kinney moved to Grand Island. He married
Alberta Stricklend-Dowty on Jan. 1, 1969, in Grand Island. He worked for Kelly Supply until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 53, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 378. Survivors include his wife; two sons, David of Gillette, Wyo., and Jay of Phoenix; one stepson, David Dowty of York; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Bernice Johnson of Plainview. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Ed Dowty; three brothers, Melvin S., Clarence A. and Wallas L.; and one sister, Grace Arms.
Alfred Kilpatrick
BURWELL -- Alfred George Kilpatrick, 83, of Burwell died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Valley County Hospital in Ord. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Assembly of God Church in Burwell. The Rev. Mike Blatchley will officiate. Burial will be in the Cotesfield cemetery with the Rev. Dominic Pecoraro officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the family. Mr. Kilpatrick was born on Sept. 16, 1916, at Cotesfield to Abraham and Mary (Kafka) Kilpatrick. He attended Cotesfield School. As a young man, he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on ranches in Nebraska and Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the Air Corps and infantry units. He also filled the position of chaplain and served in Texas, Utah and Alaska. He married
Rosa K. Prager on July 14, 1945, at Camp Maxcy in Paris, Texas. After the war, he entered York College. He graduated in the spring of 1951 and became an ordained minister of the Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Kilpatrick and his wife lived in and around Franum and Burwell. He farmed and worked at the Loup Valley Irrigation District. He also served in various churches in Wood River and Grand Island. He enjoyed ministering to the elderly. He and his wife moved to the Valley County Nursing Home in the fall of 1998. Mr. Kilpatrick was active in the Lions Club, historical society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Burwell. He was well-known for his woodworking talents. He made toys, model buildings and home decorating items. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol (Mrs. Chad) Miller of Ord and Mary (Mrs. Bruce) Fowler of Arcadia; one son, Roy of Douglas, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, David.
Clinton McIntosh
MARQUETTE -- Clinton B. "Benny" McIntosh, 92, of Marquette died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Long-term Care in Aurora. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Revs. Chuck Crabtree and Melvin Loge will officiate. Burial will be in the Mamre Free Church cemetery near Marquette. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. McIntosh was born on July 29, 1907, near Marquette to Robert and Maggie (Decker) McIntosh. He attended rural Hamilton County schools. He married
Anna Louise Sanderson on Feb. 11, 1930, in Aurora. They farmed near Marquette until the 1970s, and then he did shingling and carpentry work. He attended Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette. He was the caretaker for Richland cemetery near Marquette for more than 50 years. Mr. McIntosh enjoyed reading Western novels, gardening, lawn work, traveling and visiting friends who lived in nursing homes. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Al) Hoegh of Davenport, Fla.; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; and one brother, James of California. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Orville, Fay, Clyde, Forrest, Joe, Rueben, Guy, and Ernest; and two sisters, Verna and Bertha.
Lyle Rachow
GIBBON -- Lyle E. Rachow, 36, of Gibbon died Thursday, May 11, 2000, southwest of Gibbon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Details will appear later.
Jane Royle
PLEASANTON -- Jane Royle, 54, of Pleasanton died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pleasanton. The Rev. Loren Pohlmeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Pleasanton. Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney, Sunday night at the wake service and until services Monday morning at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Pleasanton Emergency Unit. Mrs. Royle was born on Aug. 26, 1945, in Spalding to Michael and Marie (Sullivan) Pfeifer. She graduated from Spalding Academy High School and then attended the Grand Island School of Nursing, graduating with her registered nurse degree. She married
James D. Royle on Sept. 24, 1966, in Spalding. They moved to Kearney and then to Pleasanton, where they lived for 32 years. She worked as a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for 20 years and then worked at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. She had been a nurse at Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney for the past 10 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pleasanton and the Nebraska EMS. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lynn Davis of Denver and Brenda Yowell of Omaha; her parents, of Spalding; two brothers, Pat Pfeifer of Loomis and Mike Pfeifer of Spalding; and two sisters, Virginia Warden of St. Edward and Rita Schaaf of Stuart.
Eva Christensen
IMPERIAL -- Eva V. Christensen, 89, of Imperial, formerly of St. Paul and Dannebrog, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in Lincoln. Services are pending at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Beulah Lauer
CAMBRIDGE -- Beulah B. Lauer, 85, of Cambridge died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Cambridge Manor Nursing Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. The Revs. Carl Pullman and Larry Rodencal will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery at McCook. Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the church. Mrs. Lauer was born on Sept. 23, 1914, at Oberlin, Kan., to John Franklin and Mary Elizabeth (Welton) Grieninger. She graduated from McCook High School in 1932. She married
John E. Lauer on March 29, 1937. She was a homemaker and worked as a department head at Hested's Variety Store for many years. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Guild. She taught Sunday school and school of religion, served as organist and directed the adult and children's choirs for many years. Survivors include one son, Gary of Dellafield, Wis.; two daughters, Patsy (Mrs. Raymond) Fisher of Indianola and Cheryl Schuett of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband died on Feb. 3, 1985. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Grieninger.
Richard Lucht
Richard L. Lucht, 67, of Grand Island died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Lincoln.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Village of Riverton Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Alexander will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Lucht was born Sept. 11, 1933, to Ernest and Edith (Blackwell) Lucht in Franklin. He retired from Bonneville Trailers.
Survivors include one sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Andrew) Wickwire of Omaha; and one brother, Doyle Vinson of California.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Evelyn Pinneo
YORK -- Evelyn C. R. Pinneo, 82, of York died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Lincoln.
Services were March 14 at Metz Chapel in York. The Rev. Arthur Brinkmeyer officiated. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery in York.
Memorials are suggested to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Project.
Metz Mortuary in York was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pinneo was born May 3, 1918, at Beaver Crossing to Frank and Bertha W. "Minnie" (Neujahr) Suhr.
She married
Lawrence C. Pinneo on March 5, 1941, at Exeter.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. She was a retired cook, having been employed at the Chances 'R' in York for more than 25 years, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include one brother, Emmanuel Suhr of Grand Island; one sister, Viola (Mrs. Edwin) Farris of Grand Island; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Helen Rice; one brother and one sister.
Ava Welding
NELIGH -- Ava Clare Welding, 89, of Neligh died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville. The Rev. Thomas Bauwens will officiate. Burial will be in St. Boniface cemetery at Elgin.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin and will continue at the church in Raeville after 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.
Mrs. Welding was born Feb. 20, 1912, at Elgin to Joseph and Anna (Penne) Josten. She grew up on her parents' farm and attended rural schools.
She married
Gilbert Welding on April 26, 1933, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. The couple farmed in the Elgin, Neligh and Oakdale area before moving to Elgin. From 1957 to 1971, she worked as head cook at the Plantation Manor Rest Home in Elgin. She then worked as a cook at the Parr's Red Rooster Cafe in Elgin from 1972 to 1983. Mr. Welding died March 10, 1980, and she continued to live in Elgin until her death.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and its Altar Society, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, all at Elgin.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth of Elgin, Phillip of Grand Island, Robert of Burr Ridge, Ill., and Keith of O'Neill; three daughters, Donna (Mrs. Robert) Longanecker of Tucson, Ariz., Barbara (Mrs. John) Kiley of Orchard, and Joyce (Mrs. Duane) Knievel of Neligh; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers; Vet, Clarence and Raymond Josten; and one sister, Katherine Pelster.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Derald Welding; and two brothers, Lawrence and Alfred Josten.
Elizabeth Werning
OMAHA -- Elizabeth C. Werning, 98, of Omaha died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville. The Rev. Thomas Bauwens will officiate. Burial will be in St. Boniface cemetery in Elgin.
Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Werning was born Dec. 10, 1902, at Hebron to Frank and Emelia (Dewald) Gregor. She attended rural school at Hebron and in 1912, moved with her family to O'Neill where she attended St. Mary's Academy. In 1918, they family moved to Elgin, and she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy at Falls City in 1921.
She married
John M. Werning Jr. on Jan. 11, 1927, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. They lived their entire married
life at Elgin. Mr. Werning died April 28, 1950, and she continued to live at Elgin until recently moving to Omaha to be near her daughter.
She was a seamstress and sewed many brides' and bridesmaids' dresses. She sewed all of the wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters and arranged the flowers and made the wedding cakes for her grandchildren. She was an upholsterer with her works displayed in many homes in the area.
She worked several years as a sales clerk in the Seymour-Beiden Department Store and the Council Oak and Ray's Superette grocery stores.
She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and its Altar Society and was a member of the church choir for 18 years.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth of Weeping Water; three daughters, Betty Jean (Mrs. Ralph) Schindler of Omaha, Helen Amelia (Mrs. Harold) Schmitt of Watkins, Iowa, and Mary Alyce Nichols of Grand Island; 25 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert John Werning; four brothers, Walter, Albert, Francis, and Martin Gregor; nine sisters, Sister Rose, Olivia, and Christina Chavet, Leona McKenney, Edith Beckman, Eva Fritz, Annie, Amelia and Florence Gregor; and one grandson.
