June Burns
June Burns, 80, of Grand Island, formerly of Overton, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Wedgewood Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Overton with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.
The casket will be open before services at the church, but there will be no formal visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burns was born on June 1, 1919, in Overton to Carl and Alta (Wheeler) Westerlin. She was educated at Overton High School and Kearney State College.
She married
Ralph Burns on June 1, 1941, in Overton. The couple lived in Overton, where they owned and operated I.F. Burns Grocery.
Mrs. Burns was a member of the Overton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing golf and was active in her bridge group. She also was a sports enthusiast.
Survivors include one son, Bill Burns of North Platte; one daughter, Jean (Mrs. Clay) Hesser of Grand Island; and one brother, Donald Westerlin of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dick, Keith and Arnold; and one sister, Darlene Worthing.
Agnes Duester
ROCKVILLE -- Agnes Duester, 88, of Rockville died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Arrangements are pending at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Eugene Jensen
ST. EDWARD -- Eugene Jensen, 74, of St. Edward died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at the Boone County Medical Center in Albion.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Ansgar Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Clara Krolikowski
ORD -- Clara A. Krolikowski, 79, of Ord, formerly of Loup City, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, after an extended illness at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and sodality rosary.
Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County Historical Society or the Loup City Public Library.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Krolikowski was born Feb. 22, 1920, on the family farm in the Logan Township north of Loup City to Joseph and Veronica (Silver) Gembala. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 81 School and graduated from Loup City High School in 1937. Upon completing her education she worked at the County Superintendent's Office, the National Youth Association and the Fairmont Creamery in Loup City.
She married
Don Krolikowski Nov. 25, 1942 at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City.
The couple farmed north of Loup City on several farms in Logan Township for many years. After the death of her husband in March 1968 she continued to farm with her children until 1973 when she moved into Loup City. She then worked at the County Assessor's Office, Obie's Variety Store and Fisherman's Bar.
In 1980 she was elected as the first female Sherman County Supervisor. Following hip surgery in April 1997 she lived at the Valley County Nursing Home.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors.
She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women and the Rosary Sodality, American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 48 and the Sherman County Historical Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Ron) Riskowski of Ord, Elaine (Mrs. Mark) Janulewicz of Fremont and Patti (Mrs. Lynn) Ford of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sons, Don and Dave, both of Kearney; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Gembala of Fair Oaks, Calif., Ray Gembala of Kearney and Jim Gembala of Loup City; and two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Earl) Klausen of Rockville and Eleanor (Mrs. Henry) Wilson of Loup City.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Kornmeyer and three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Ernest Gembala.
Sonja Latimer
DONIPHAN -- Sonja M. Latimer, 48, of Doniphan died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at her home.
Following cremation, a private family service will be held at a later date.
At her request, there will be no visitation.
Ms. Latimer was born Sept. 13, 1951, at Grand Island to Carl and Renee (Youngson) Amick. She graduated from Doniphan High School in 1969. She later attended Temple Buell College in Denver, Colo.
After living in Arizona for many years, Ms. Latimer moved back to Doniphan in 1992.
She was a licensed real estate salesperson, and partnered with her brother, John Amick of Doniphan, in Amick Realty. She also was a licensed and bonded livestock dealer, and she worked with her father in the Amick livestock business.
Ms. Latimer was instrumental in developing the Amick Acres East and Amick Acres West subdivisions west of Doniphan.
She enjoyed antique collecting, gardening and caring for her horses. At an early age, she earned many awards in the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association and the Nebraska High School Rodeo.
Survivors include her parents; her brother, John; a paternal grandmother, Lillian Amick of Grand Island; and a maternal grandmother, Victoria Youngson of Minden.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dr. Fred Amick of Doniphan and Charles R. Youngson of Minden.
Lucile Tolen
ORD -- Lucile G. Tolen, 95, of Ord died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Township Library or the Ord United Methodist Church.
Alice Zimbelman
PALMER -- Alice (Kurz) Zimbelman, 74, of Palmer died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services are pending at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Kyle Dillon
YORK -- Kyle F. Dillon, 19, of York died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in York.
Graveside services will be at a later date at Oak Ridge cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Survivors include his mother, Willa Dillon of O'Neill; three brothers, Randy of York and Keith and Tanner, both of O'Neill; three sisters, Lisa, Lory and Tina Dillon, all of O'Neill; and his grandparents, William and Estella Hansen of Beemer and Arlene (Dillon) Hawkins of Superior.
He was preceded in death by his father and a grandfather.
Esther Yoder
SHICKLEY -- Esther V. Yoder, 88, of Shickley died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Fairmont.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Mennonite Church in rural Shickley with the Rev. Wilton Detweller officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Yoder was born on May 28, 1911, to Peter and Elizabeth (Reeb) Saltzman.
She married
Ralph R. Yoder. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Merlin Yoder of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, LeVoy Saltzman of Shickley; and two sisters, Beulah Roth of Milford and Verna Saltzman of Shickley.
