STROMSBURG -- Vernon C. Prater, 78, of Stromsburg died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home.

Margarite Line
CLARINDA, IOWA -- Margarite Line, 90, formerly of Broken Bow, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in Clarinda, Iowa.
Funeral services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Eileen Escutia
Eileen K. (Caffery) Escutia, 46, of Grand Island died Friday, July 6, 2001, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose M. Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a scripture rosary service at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Curran Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Visitation will continue until 5 p.m. Monday and until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Survivors include her husband, Agustin "Augie" Escutia of Grand Island; her adoptive mother, Mary Caffery of Grand Island; her biological mother, Beatrice Nunez of Casper, Wyo.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Patrick & Janet Caffery of San Barnardino, Calif.
Hazel Sidwell
87, Company supervisor
Hazel S. Sidwell, 87, of Grand Island died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Rose Bartleson will officiate.
Mrs. Sidwell was cremated. There will be no visitation. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sidwell was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Osceola to Joseph and Myrtle (Randsom) Hank. The family moved to Hall County, where she attended school and worked until her marriage.
She married
Gerald E. Sidwell Aug. 6, 1942, in Little Rock, Ark. After her husband's discharge from the service, they farmed in the York and Benedict area. When they moved to Grand Island, Mrs. Sidwell worked as a supervisor at Leon Plastics for 18 years.
Survivors include a brother, Raymond Hank of Holdrege.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Eddie, Van, Harold and Harry Hank; and three sisters, Geneva Lechleitner, Lucille Looney and Jenny Marie Hank.
Roger Kunze
HUMPHREY -- Roger J. Kunze, 32, of Humphrey, died Friday, July 6, 2001, near Norton, Kan., from injuries suffered in an accident.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Rev. Curtis Trenhaile
OMAHA -- The Rev. Curtis F. Trenhaile, 59, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at the Douglas County Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church, with Dr. Denny Silk officiating. Additional services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, with Dr. Silk officiating.
Burial will be in the Bloomfield City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for Alzheimer's Research and Dementia Dental Research.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements in Ord and Brockhaus-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Bloomfield.
Kathryn Bowling
Kathryn D. Bowling, 89, of Grand Island died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dwayne Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bowling was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Bark Hill, Md., to Harry and Nora (Smith) Stitley. She grew up and attended school in Hagerstown, Md., and graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1929.
She married
the Rev. L. Paul Bowling on May 12, 1931, in Hagerstown, Md. The couple lived in Beckley, W. Va. They lived in various states, including Delaware, West Virginia, Indiana, New Jersey, South Dakota and Nebraska, where he was in pastoral services.
Mrs. Bowling and her husband moved to Grand Island, where he was pastor at the First Baptist Church. She was the church secretary from March 1960 to November 1971. Her husband died Oct. 2, 1992. She continued to live in Grand Island.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, UCT, AARP, NARFE and active with the Esther Circle at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jean Bowling of Doniphan and Lewis and Vivian Bowling of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Kay.
Phyllis Esperson Helzer
Phyllis M. Esperson Helzer, 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. She will be cremated. Burial of cremains will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

'Dick' Watson
Richard "Dick" Watson, 62, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 18, 2001.
Services are pending at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Vivian Crandall
BURWELL -- Vivian M. Crandall, 98, of Burwell died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Sargent Nursing Home in Sargent.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Burwell. The Rev. Jane Ellefson will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund.
Mrs. Crandall was born May 10, 1903, in Walton, Ky., to Slette and Hattie (Best) Yarnell. Her family moved to Ord when she was 4 and to Burwell when she was 12. She attended Banner School during seventh and eighth grade. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1922.
She married
Clifford L. Anderson on May 7, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had a son. Both were active in business in Burwell. They owned and operated The Confectionery in Burwell for several years and managed Anderson's Grocery. After her husband's death, she continued to work in the grocery store and later in Kulls Drug Store until she retired.
She was a member in the Jr. Matrons Club and the Rebekahs.
She married
Bill Crandall. She spent several years on the ranch north of Burwell until she returned to her home in Burwell. She lived there until she entered the nursing home on Feb. 17, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Bertha Anderson, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; a son, Merle; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Thelma Hyet.
