Frank Hoffmeister III
ST. EDWARD -- Frank X. Hoffmeister III, 71, of St. Edward died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Everett McDowell will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mr. Hoffmeister was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Petersburg to Frank X. II and Christina (Baumgardner) Hoffmeister.
He married
Merna A. Young on Aug. 18, 1955, in Omaha. They lived in Omaha for a year, Genoa for a year and moved to St. Edward in 1957. He worked as a car salesman in Columbus. In 1963, he began working with Frank's Sand and Gravel. His wife died May 10, 1993.
He married
Belle Phillipps on Sept. 2, 1995, at the World Wide Church of God in Grand Island. He retired in 1997.
He was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Belle; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. and Janet Hoffmeister of St. Edward; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. and Lydon Winkle of Silver Creek; six grandchildren; four stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Micky L. Phillips and Bill and Linda Phillips, all of Burwell, Pat and Shirley Phillips of Douglas, Wyo., and Robert Phillips of Sheridan, Wyo.; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Marie and Lin Gumb of Burwell; 14 stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Bonnie Hoffmeister of Genoa; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jane and John Hall and Irene Ellenwood, all of Genoa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merna and an infant daughter, Beverly Jo.
Emma Hulinsky
BURWELL -- Emma Hulinsky, 94, of Burwell died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Private services were Thursday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts officiated. Burial was in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Fire Department Equipment Fund or the hospice.
Mrs. Hulinsky was born Jan. 10, 1907, in Valley County to Vaclav and Katie (Klat) Bruha.
She married
Frank W. Hulinsky on Feb. 10, 1926, in Ord. They lived in Valley County on a farm. In November 1978, they retired and moved to Burwell. Her husband died on Oct. 16, 1992.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, gardening, flowers, chickens, ducks, crocheting and sewing.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Ilene Hulinsky of Broken Bow and Edward W. and Loretta Hulinsky of Ashton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Emma and Ivan Stones of Kearney and Rosie and Don Jeffres of Burwell; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Hulinsky of Burwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandchild, a brother and two infant sisters.
'Goldie' Johnson
RAVENNA -- Charles "Goldie" Johnson, 83, of Ravenna died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Shari Lagenman will officiate. Burial will be in Majors cemetery near Poole.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna Emergency Unit.
Mr. Johnson was born May 12, 1918, at Osceola to Charles and Emma (Nelson) Johnson. He was a graduate of Osceola High School.
He married
Wilma Jean "Billie" Duncan on June 7, 1945, in Osceola. They lived on a farm near Osceola until 1952, when they moved to a farm near Poole. They moved to Ravenna in 1975. His wife died on May 10, 1993.
He served on the board of District 60 School and was a 4-H leader. He coached at Poole for many years. He was also the caretaker for the Poole Ball Field for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Dan of Cold Bay, Alaska, and Dave of Cairo; two daughters, Diana Meyer of Grand Island and Dawn Neville of Fleming, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister.
Britton Peters
BURWELL -- Britton J. Peters, 94, of Burwell died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Don Studley will officiate. Burial will be in Kent cemetery in rural Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Kent cemetery or Calvary Methodist Church in Taylor.
Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Chuck Stickels
HASTINGS -- Chuck Stickels, 69, a longtime resident of Hastings, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at French Memorial Chapel at Hastings College. The Rev. Larry Gyhra will officiate. A private burial will be held for family.
Book signing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and from 3 p.m. until service time Saturday at French Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Hastings College Athletic Department or John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, Calif.
Mr. Stickels was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Hastings to Charles O. and Blanchette (Pullen) Stickels. He attended school in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1949 and from Hastings College in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from Sept. 4, 1952, to June 3, 1954.
He married
Barbara Dyer on Jan. 9, 1953, in Hastings. They lived in Superior and Holstein, where he taught school and coached until 1959 when they moved to Hastings. He then began his career as an investment broker.
He married
Corrine Powers on May 31, 1981, in Hastings.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro Cathedral, past president of Lochland Country Club and was active in the Hastings College Alumni Association. In 1964, he was inducted into the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics National Basketball Hall of Fame and in 1997 into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Stickels of Hastings; two daughters, Kim Magalee of Greeley and Jane Anderson of Evanston, Wyo.; two sisters, Aletha McDonald of El Cajon, Calif., and Mari Anthes of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandchild.
Raymond Wadas
JOHNSTOWN, Colo. -- Raymond E. Wadas, 66, of Johnstown, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at North Colorado Medical Center Hospice Unit.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Johnstown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Adamson Memorial Chapel with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Catholic Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado.
Mr. Wadas was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Elyria to Frank and Veronica (Koziol) Wadas.
He married
June Mickelsen on Oct. 3, 1953, in St. Paul. His job with Public Service Co. as a nuclear operator brought him and his family to Johnstown in May 1971. He and his wife owned and operated a restaurant, hardware store and car wash.
He was an active community leader who helped found the football little league in Johnstown and coached children for 14 years. He served on the town board and was mayor from 1989 to 1993. When he and his family moved to Johnstown, there was no Catholic church. He helped with the creation of St. John the Baptist Church and served as the parish council president.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Rod and Dan Wadas, both of Johnstown, Bill Wadas of Peoria, Ariz., Steve Wadas of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Bob Wadas of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two daughters, Denise Flores of Berthoud, Colo., and Pat Freeman of Greeley; a brother, Leonard Wadas of Lincoln; three sisters, Florence Moraczewski and Tillie Schenck, both of St. Paul, and Agnes Kinser of Eugene, Ore.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Stan Wadas; and a sister, Evelyn Whetstone.
