C. Linton Hodgson
BURWELL -- C. Linton Hodgson, 78, of Burwell, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell. The Revs. Scott Harvey and David Koenigsberg will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hodgson was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Crosbyton, Texas, to James and Edith (Hansard) Hodgson. He was educated at Erina and graduated from the eighth grade.
He spent most of his early life ranching with his dad until 1960 when he moved to Hoboken, N.J.
He married
Gladys Post in May 1961. While in Hoboken, he worked for Christ Hospital in Jersey City as a custodian until 1967. The couple moved to New Era, Penn., where he did custodial work for Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
In 1969 he started working for the Wyalusing School District, . They also raised cattle and other livestock. While working there he started at the New Albany School and transferred to Wyalusing High School in 1980.
He retired in 1984 and moved back to Burwell in 1985. The couple worked in the housekeeping department at the Community Memorial Health Center until moving to the Park View Plaza.
Survivors include his wife of Burwell.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one sister.
Jean Henry
COZAD -- Jean Henry, 79, of Cozad died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center or the Central Plains Home Health and Hospice.
Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kristin Henry of Grand Island.
Patricia Smolenski
70, Bank teller
OSCEOLA -- Patricia A. Smolenski, 70, of Osceola died Monday, May 21, 2001, at her home.
Services were Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church-Pilsno in rural Osceola.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Smolenski was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Clarks to Albert J. and Mary Josephine (Douglas) Morris. She attended grade school at Pleasant Hill District 15 in Merrick County and graduated from Clarks High School.
She married
Henry Smolenski on Sept. 17, 1976. They lived in Polk County. She worked for 33 years as an employee at Farmers State Bank in Silver Creek until retiring in 1998.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana L. and Bob Cutsor of Silver Creek and Denise L. and Dennis Butts of Murray; one foster daughter, Raquel Ivette Hurtadorulz of Nicaragua; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jane Jackson of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Morris.
Lowell Spencer
OMAHA -- Lowell V. Spencer, 73, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Spencer's body was cremated.
Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries of Omaha are in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spencer was born in Clay Center on Feb. 15, 1928, to Ralph and Muirle Spencer. He attended Grand Island schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1949.
He married
Norma Vavra in Colorado on July 11, 1954. The couple lived in Grand Island for 35 years. Mr. Spencer worked as a district salesman for Frito Lay and later as custodian at the Platt Administration Building in Grand Island. He retired in 1990.
His hobbies included model railroading and gardening. He also enjoyed working in his yard and caring for his dog.
Survivors include his wife of Omaha; two sons, Eugene of Mississippi and Jonathan of Omaha; one sister, Carol Heying of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.
Leonard Wiegert
SYRACUSE -- Leonard D. Wiegert, 79, of Syracuse died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Revs. Michael Stec and Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Wiegert cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the rosary service at 7 p.m. Friday at Russelman-Wymore-Marshall Funeral Home Chapel in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse or the donor's choice.
'Tom' Pollard
39, Self-employed
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Thomas J. "Tom" Pollard, 39, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cappadona's Family Service Center in Colorado Springs.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Pollard was born Sept. 9, 1961, in Loup City to Jerome and Elaine (Sekutra) Chelewski.
He was self-employed as a chimney sweeper.
Survivors include one son, Shane; his mother and stepfather, Elaine and Jerry Pollard; one sister, Bernice Gimm; and four brothers, Steven, Donald, David and Michael, all of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Michael Bennett
Michael L. Bennett, 49, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Hereford, Texas.
Services are pending with Apfel Funeral Home at Cairo.
John Conant
John H. Conant, 89, of Grand Island died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
